Nancy Pelosi: Stop talking about the cost of the stimulus!

Here we go again. The Chicken Little Congress is back in full swing, repeating the same fear-mongering tactics that brought us TARP and a year full of bailouts.
Nancy Pelosi tells the public to stop obsessing over the pricetag of the Generational Theft Act of 2009. Because, you know, THE PRICE OF INACTION IS TOO HIGH!
Easy for you to say, sister:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pressed top House Democrats on Wednesday to pass massive economic recovery legislation by mid-February, warning that inaction would lead to more job losses and economic pain.
Pelosi emphasized the infrastructure and energy components of a massive stimulus package that Congress and President-elect Barack Obama are fashioning in response to the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. The combined spending and tax cuts of the plan are expected to cost nearly $800 billion.
“While we are not discussing small sums, focusing on the price tag alone ignores the cost of inaction and the real payoff in terms of job creation and increased revenues to our treasury,” Pelosi told the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, according to a prepared text of her remarks.
Noting that the proposal will include spending on roads and bridges, clean energy technologies, expanded Internet access, and modernizing schools, she declared: “This is not your grandfather’s public works bill.”
No, but your grandchildren will be paying for it.

No, but Marx would be proud…
.
That’s like me taking cash advances on my credit card and calling it income.
.
That’s like someone taking cash a-d-v-a-n-c-e-s on their c-r-e-d-i-t c-a-r-d and calling it income.
Spending, spending, and more spending. Which of the above involves wealth creation? Zip.
Cut corporate taxes.
Cut capital gains taxes.
Cut income taxes.
Let the Market work!
Thank god conservatives are finally acting like conservatives!
One positive note to an Obama presidency.
And that is the underlying goal.
Obama has never had to worry about fiscal restraint. His campaign was so awash in (probably illegal) cash that he never had to make any hard choices. He just spent like there was no tomorrow.
And if his party keeps it up, there won’t be.
Has there ever been an American politician with a lower opinion of the US populace and our ability to read and think?
Easy solution: The FairTax.
Done.
Next?
Why aren’t they paying me for this information?
I just love the fact that all of the college kids who voted for “change” are going to get their wish.
Change is all they will be left with as they grow up and try to pay for this horsesh!t.
What the Speaker is trying to say is “Costing”-something business, government and individuals should always do when making a purchase. In this case the cost of doing nothing would be value positive for America, value negative for Nancy Pelosi and comrades, while the cost of doing something is value negative for America but value positive for Nancy Pelosi and comrades.
These businessmen who do all or most of their business with the various governments do not have to do Costing and so continually support more government spending. They are leeches and become Governor of New Jersey, Mayor of NYC or their wives become Senators and Congress Women from California.
But some analyst think this may usher in a new dynamic: Deflation of wages, housing and capital goods and inflation on everything else. We are there with housing, aren’t we? We did something.
If the cost of botox gets too high I imagine that industry will get a BIG bailout.
I like the fair tax as well for many reasons, chief among them is that it provides people with a great incentive to save money. This country desperately needs savings, and everything the government and Federal Reserve are doing is to discourage those savings.
Unfortunately our government will never accept the fair tax for the reason that it taxes consumption. With our giant ponzi scheme of an economy based upon people borrowing money they don’t have to buy things they don’t need, the fair tax would be political suicide.
The only way a fair tax would be accepted is when the United States fails completely, and we actually have an armed revolt – which might not be that far off.
The people that voted for Pelosi, Reid, and Obambi will be screaming the loudest about a year from now. The market will be way down because money will fly out of the country. My investment dollars will be and I can’t blame anyone for doing the same. The Obambi administration will make it hard, if not impossible, for businesses to grow here despite what he says he will do. The Congress will tax, tax, tax anything that isn’t already taxed. I don’t think Americans are going to be more and more patriotic with money out of their pockets. If you had listened just passively to Obambi it would have been clear he would kill the economy with socialism and “fairness” along with the most liberal congress in history.
I’m not saying I told you so, Obambi did.
Somebody please inform the enlightened voters that their brilliant choices have firmly set the stage for an “Idiocracy”.
I’ll keep saying it til enough people listen. STOP paying taxes en masse. That is the One and ONLY thing they will listen to………..
And believe me Michelle O., this is not good for YOUR kids either!
The principle is always the same for Dems.
” No their is no evidence , However, the charge is so big it has to be investigated.”
Pelosi and Reid are determined to spend money just because it belongs to someone else and because they can do it.
If congress is at a 9% approval that has been sustained for a long time, how do they weld this much power. It is well passed rebellion time. Where is it?
A couple of reps speaking out is not going to get Northeastern and California liberals out of our lives.
You first……..
Brother can you spare a dime?
With each day that passes, it becomes harder and harder not to see that a third revolution is a very real possibility.
So be it. I’m a step or two slower and a pound or two heavier than I was in the Corps. But for all that, I haven’t forgotton a single thing about how to hit the target.
Does it strike anyone else that the only thing you have to do today to be considered an absolute freak of nature is say the same things the founding fathers did?
englishqueen–is that Karl, or Groucho??
But Naty Nan’s grandchildren won’t have to worry because she has pushed enough stuff to her and hubbys companies to provide for the kiddies.
Spoken like a true Democrat.
A trillion here, a trillion there pretty soon the presses will wear out.
Where is the money coming from?
My 91 year old mother’s description of Nancy Pelosi? “Evil”
Her words.
*Exasperated Sigh*
I hope the Republicans will come to their senses this year.
It’s a LOOONG time until 2010!
Stupid, arrogant, narcissistic, spiteful, and imperious… but “evil” is adequate short-hand.
Democrats have shot the American people in the head and now they want to play doctor and heal us with more gunfire? Where are the practical scholars and successful business people to set these fools straight? Have they all cut and run?
The Democrats have displayed enough criminal malfeasence and raging incometence to warrent a court order committing them to a lock-down mental institution. This is jaw-dropping insanity!
I’ll be at your side.
!Fred has it right! Too bad we got stuck with McCan’t
Sure. The IRS says you owe – good luck as they will come for it. I think they are trying to make me pay for CS 2.0 right by myself.
Republican leaders must make the case to the American people that the Government:
1. Has directly or indirectly caused most economic crises.
2. Has never done anything to “fix” an economy.
3. Will prolong and create a worse crisis if it persists in printing money and deficit spending.
4. Is not and never can be a productive enterprise.
5. Has no Constitutional authority to do the things it is doing.
The government is intended to be a servant of the people, to provide for a safe living environment. However, the government seems to think we exist to serve it’s political masters. We need to disabuse them of that notion.
Evil works. Smart grandma.
Walter, you dummy. They don’t need revenue when they can just print more money! What are you thinking?
This is why the Republicans tick me off so often. They could have made a play by nominating and voting for Dingell for Speaker. Yeah, I know, party unity and so on, but they could have forced the moderate to conservative Dems to make a choice. At the very least, they would have had a big hammer to beat the “Blue Dogs” with come 2010. Heck, the House Republicans may as well take a 2 year paid vacation based on Pelosi’s new rules.
What we need at this point are the luminaries of our time. Who will fill the role of an Adams? A Washington?
Of foot soldiers there are, or will be, plenty. There are to many of us who believe that just because we were discharged from the service, that doesn’t mean that our oath to the nation we love was discharged with us. I still owe this country. I will owe this country to the day that I die. And I will be d@mned to the lower hells before I will turn my back on her.
But, whenever the dreaded day arrives that blood must again be shed, what we need are the leaders.
Semper Fi till I die.
Apologies for threadjacking everyone. My blood boils and… Well, sorry.
The amazing thing to me is how arrogant these people are to think that they somehow are in a position to do something to ‘help’ the economy by taking money out of it.
These people in DC are NOT economists. They are politicians. . . which means they play EVERYTHING on TV.
If Nancy cares so much about helping the economy through legislation, why go through these motions? Why not just mandate (by law via lawmakers) that the stock market trades above a certain level? Just peg the dow to a 10% gain a year guaranteed by treasury? Make it a law.
The government is going to destroy this country.
I think I need to say this again. . .
The government is going to destroy this country.
Rule Number One for the Democrat Party to rationalize the creation and passage of unpopular legislation is to label the problem a “CRISIS.”
Instilling fear in the populace gets them off the hook when these programs prove to be boondoggles. Then they can use Rule Number Two; Claim that “Mistakes were made, but we acted in “good faith” for THE CHILDREN</strong>.”
6. Borrowing vast sums from foreign governments gravely threatens our national security.
Yo Nan. You are right -this is not our Grandfathers Public Works Bill! Our Grandfathers never would have allowed this injustice. They lived through the depression. My grandfather, if still living, would have taken an axe handle to you’ns long ago. Damn I miss him.
To borrow from sonofdy @#2:
and increased revenues to our treasury
and increased revenues to our treasury
and increased revenues to our treasury
and increased revenues to our treasury
and increased revenues to our treasury
and increased revenues to our treasury
This is what’s wrong with Congress. The think that it is THEIR money to spend. When will the elctorate wake up?!
Which the tolls I pay and the annual transportation bill are supposed to already cover.
A laudable goal, but one probably better pursued by the private sector.
Another thing the private sector does better.
Which I thought was supposed to be covered by the outrageous property taxes they ding me for every year.
What a load of crap. I don’t understand why the American people tolerate this, I really don’t.
She wants people to stop talking… becasue when people talk, they understand the repercussions. The last time people in mass talked was during the Amnesty bill McCain was forcing on America…
…she doesn’t want the people to rise up and Understand their Destroy America Plan until it’s to late.
I take that as doing away with the unions, that’s a good thing…is it not.

para phrasing Kruchiev, “we don’t have to destroy America, the country will collapse on it’s self”. And all these yrs I thought he was talking out his backside, now look at us.

Most of the “electorate” is awake. Problem is, they are already on the dole, and highly unlikely to vote themselves less “welfare” than Obama is ready to give them.
Nancy’s children don’t have to worry, their future is secure. Her family’s fortune is amply sheltered by legions of lawyers.
Dear Nancy,
I can’t afford to pay for “job creation” because I don’t get “increased revenues” thanks to Congress.
Sincerely,
ECS
Nancy is nothing more than Obama’s minister of propaganda. Don’t be sucked in to this Marxist/socialist scam. Obama is intentionally attempting to create as much fear and panic as possible to grease the gears for his massive government spending programs. If he can neutralize the frightened masses and cause them to believe he will save them from economic destruction, his goal of building a socialist state could well be achieved. The only real and enduring power within this country was its free market economy and the capitalist engine that propelled it. Wake up and speak up people, your liberties are disappearing and this once great Republic is about to tumble into an abyss. This is not leadership . . . it’s a psychological blitzkrieg.
two stories on drudge this a.m. show the stupidity of our governmental system. “it’s for the children” detroit school system says it needs money to buy toilet paper, etc, while chicago school system used 65k to install cappucino machines for the children. who’s foolin who!
Every time this woman opens her mouth she becomes more stupid to me. Of course it is not my Grandfathers public works bill it was FDR’s and it prolonged the depression until WW II. Do we have to start WWIII to get out of this mess too. Do the demoncraps NOT read history–you are supposed to learn from your mistakes. The WPA and the Great Society were FAILURES…so lets do it again and see if we can create another failure….makes perfect sense!!
