I do have to say, though, that this at least gives the Ohio GOP enough time to vet a decent field of candidates.

And I must also remark that as a child, I saw then-Gov. Voinovich land in a helicopter at a state park my family was staying at. It seemed cool at the time. I was also a kid.

I think of his opposition to Operation ALLIED FORCE in Yugoslavia -- time has wall-papered his words into a sentence that will be repeated in his obituary, but I recall being quite disgusted with a member of the Legislative Branch weighing in so strongly on foreign policy, and being so wrong.

My friend from Ohio has longed complained about how ineffective, inadequate, uninformed, and corrupt Voinovich is. She's involved in GOP Ohio politics and cannot figure out how this dufus ever got the GOP nomination except by buying it.

Senator Voinovich may be announcing his 2010 retirement today, but he retired from representing Ohio republicans long ago. With zero possibility of a committee chairmanship or position in the new presidential administration, he must have finally realized there is no reason for him to stay in Washington any longer. Ohio republicans won't miss him, except as a barricade to the idiot voters who will undoubtedly try to move their favorite buffoon from the house to the senate. Right now Dennis Kucinich is just one of 435, but in the Senate, as one of 100, he can cause more damage.

Call me crazy, but I’d rather have a RINO than a Democrat.

Like the choice between being punched in the gut or stabbed in the back.

The RNC needs to start lining up true fiscal conservatives right now for 2010 all across the country

I'd go further. The GOP needs to throw out all its old notions and develop a whole new charter for the party. It should advance solutions not ideology, although the solutions should be grounded in proven, conservative principles.

ROFLMAO! I'd never seen that. DLTDHYITAOTWO indeed, Voinovich.

In a way, he seems to be a symbol of the entire Republican Party right now: effete, limp-wristed, and utterly worthless.
