Frankly, I’m biased towards airplanes. I think they give you a better chance of making a safe landing after engine failure.

All that crap about being able to do this or that or knowing this or that is really just biased reporters’ excuses for their bias. What they fear is Joe exposing them for what they are.

Jazz music tends to be very niche-oriented, and many may not know who Thelonious Monk is. However, this is typical of the “journalists” turned out by today’s “institutions of higher learning.” BARF!

I remember after I had made a Cristmas dinner with Wild Snow Geese as the entre my cousin Joe -fresh from Seattle University B-School- asked “do you hunt Geese with a Rifle?”…upon which I had to restrain my incredulity and answer with “no” and add “that it would be both illegal and dangerous for me to do so”.

I’m still working with them on their understanding with guns-at least they open-minded about it as Democrats go….I sometimes feel like a missionary in very pagan country on this issue (of guns) when I’m in that part of Washington State (Seattle)…

    What can we expect??

The national TV anchorpeople schools teach that all light aircraft are either a Piper Cub or possibly a Cessna. Many municipal airports use a logo of a jet aircraft to mark the local 2500 ft. landing strip.

The ignorance (and unwillingness to do even a trifling bit of research upon the occasional need to do it) of the MSM about aviation in general, and military aviation specifically, is astounding.

However, do I sympathize with any reporter trying to comprehend any craft staying in the air by means of some whirlygig contraption.

I’m reminded of that story that appeared in a newspaper in 2007 about more people getting carry permits.
    From Confereate Yankee:

    Creative Gun Reporting
Somehow, I just don’t believe that the reporter who wrote this San Mateo County Times story, Christine Morente, was actually there (h/t Michelle Malkin):

KIMBERLY SHRUM grips a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and aims at a target 25 yards away. Bang.
A hot shell casing hits the floor, joining hundreds of others littering the concrete at Jackson Arms Indoor Shooting Range in South San Francisco.

Just to point out the obvious to the oblivious, the scenario described above simply cannot happen.

Morente stated Shrum is firing a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver. Shell casings remain in the chamber of a revolver until manually removed by the shooter; they cannot as Morente described “hit the floor” as a result of pulling the trigger. The automatic ejection of a fired shell is physically impossible with revolvers.

These is basic firearm design fact not open to discussion. What does appear to be open for discussion is whether or not Morente was actually at the Jackson Arms Shooting Range with Shrum as her article implies.

If a reporter can’t tell the difference betwen a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol, they they don’t have a chance with a helicoptor and a fixed-wing airplane.

    A short story:
My commander used to be a heavy airlift pilot and due to health reasons was disqualified from flying. He then worked as a supply officer and then became a comm commander. Since coming to communications he has taken up photography and is pretty good. He did my wedding.
Last year a recruiter set up a photo shoot to get pictures of one of our planes flying over Memphis and a police helicoptor from which the pictures would be taken.
Our unit photographer was sick that week and the recruiter asked out commander to take the pictures. Now let me tell you, fixed wing pilots don’t trust those devices where the wings turn in circles overhead and he was none too excited about going up in that contraption. Actually, but admission, he was down right terrified. That’s rare for a pilot or ex-pilot to ever do.
He agreed to do the shoot. On the appointed day he went up, took the shots and came back safely. The next day I asked how he liked it. He can’t wait to do it again.

From the above shooty / no shooty link at Dissident Frogman:

This is where the real shocker lies: for even if we assume that they could be honest and unbiased, if these Great Professionals™ who make their trade and pride of reporting on worldwide crises — that are bound to involve, more often than not, individual weaponry of various make and caliber — can’t even tell the difference between a bullet and a cartridge, can you just imagine what else — and how much — they ignore?

I’d bet she got that from some amateur remnant from VN. Another old wives tale (like a .45 will “break your wrist”) that said an M-16 round “tumbles” and therefore results in a devastating wound.

Clue #1 … while dimensionally almost identical, the military 5.56 Nato round and the civilian .223 round are NOT the same.

Clue #2 … neither round tumbles in flight (a round accurate out to 600 meters “tumbles”?).

Whatever the case … as usual – Perky is incorrect.

Bravo Sierra. ANY bullet CAN tumble after it strikes the target, but NONE do it IN FLIGHT – which is what the ridiculous story first proposed. And they don’t “tumble” completely as you propose. That suggests they go end over end, which is absolutely NOT the case.
