Michelle Obama’s latest e-mail call to arms just landed in my e-mailbox. Looks like another way for Team Obama to sign up potential donors for new money-grubbing opportunities — under the guise of “public service,” of course:

Friend –One week from today, on January 19th, Barack and I will join thousands of people all across the country for an extraordinary day of service.
I recorded a short video to tell you more about this important effort. Please take a minute to watch it and sign up to host or attend a service event near you.
Here’s the vid. While I was watching it, my five-year-old son complained: “Mommy, that’s annoying me.” I know how he feels.

Perhaps it would have been a better idea to make the “Day of Service” the day after the inauguration, so Obama cultists could pitch in and clean up the Capital after all the partying is over.
I can guarantee you: It’s going to be a complete mess.

Sorry Michelle but your “day of service” is too reminiscent of communist China and their citizen street cleaners. In addition, I know what Service is and I don’t need any encouragement or prompting from you. I spent 35 years as a soldier and now you can begin to do your part.

The Obama zombie drones are awaiting for their next mission from their dear leaders Michelle and Barack.
The authorities expect 10,000 Greyhound-loads of Obama cultists to arrive in DC for the inauguration. That’s an extra 450,000 people who’ll tie up every cell phone tower within 100 miles of DC, and cause every fast-food franchise to run out of food. Oh,yeah. I can see thousands of those new jobs Obama promises on the horizon: cleanup crews.
The beginning of this message filled me with hope! Hope that it would end soon. I agree with Michelle’s five-year-old.
This city will need a lot of clean up.
I predict that D.C. will look like post-Katrina New Orleans.
People are going to be unable to get to the national mall to actually see the ceremony. Traffic will be stopped, even on the highways (just like it is on the 4th of July with 1/6 of the expected crowd population). People will get mad.
Food and water is not going to be available; the Washington Post is already telling residents to stock up on water and bread. And anyhow, the mall is already known for having hardly any places to eat nearby. Most out-of-towners will not be ready for the hunger pains. Old people will need ambulances (which will be stuck in traffic) and there will likely be deaths; it sounds morbid to consider this, but I know firsthand that even during the WWII monument ceremony, security officials assumed a certain number of deaths and planned accordingly.
The weather is probably going to be freezing, and if it happens to snow, it will be bad. Some will get frostbite on their toes, but not enough medics will be on hand.
The metro (subway) will be jammed. One Washington Post columnist ran a prediction on how long it would take a crowd of just 2 million to evacuate the national mall. His estimate? It’ll take 2 days to get people out. He explains that it took 45 minutes for a crowd of 40,000 fans to exit the Nationals stadium on opening night.
Even during an average rush hour, the amount of people standing on the platform is dangerous; with thousands of people pushing, I can easily see people falling into the track. The only way to stop this is through tight regulation at the metro entrance; that will cause conflict. Fights will break out.
When the fights break out, the police will get involved. The fights will turn into riots.
People will scream RAAAACIST!
It’s not going to be pretty. I think I’ll stay at home in front of the television with a big bowl of popcorn.

I see bad times ahead for people who have always depended on the government to do everything for them when it is very cold, the streets are packed, and poublic restrooms and restaurants are overloaded.

They’ll make a kazillion dollars. For that matter, I can’t wait for the sequel either. But,but,but, I guess she’s the new spokesperson for the DNC and head of their fundraising.

Our local dead fish wrapper did a story yesterday of how Obama is “inspiring” people to do good works in their communities. Featuring a group of lefty liberals who feel so “energized” by Obama that they are getting out and collecting clothing donations! I’m thinking, “Gee, my 8 year-old son’s Cub Scout pack does that every year, along with tree planting, litter patrol, and food drives. And it didn’t matter who was president!” But we’re to believe that none of this went on until the Messiah showed us the light.
Mr. and Mrs. Obama, why don’t you just step aside and allow good people to continue doing what they’ve always done.

Like Mrs. Malkin’s son, i am a bit disturbed by this video.
It should make no difference on who is in the White House on whether to volunteer or not. And Mrs. Obama’s plea sounded like it had a dirty undercurrent that soon it will be forced volunteering.
Besides, I was volunteering yesterday, at the same place I have been volunteering for about 20 years now. If she thinks I will volunteer more because of her plea, Mrs. Obama can go pound rocks.
Of course, my volunteering pales to what those in the armed services have done.

January 19, A National Day of Service? Ya, I will be participating. I will be servicing my motorcycle sidecar rig after being put up on blocks for the past month owing to my recovery from my prostatectomy last month. My doctor finally released me to go back to riding it to work. And thanks to MLK, I get Monday off from work!
Hey I volunteered in 1992. I am still not done with that job, so leave me alone. On that note, they want to give me a platoon. I would really like to stay at the level I am actualy being paid for but whatever..

Am I the only person who finds it pathetic that Barack Obama supporters have to be told to participate in a day of service? For some of us, volunteerism is a normal part of our lives, not something we engage in for only one day, and then only when our Messiah tells us to.
This is how these people are beating us. I live in Guatemala most of the year. Where I live there are a couple of wide-eyed intense young Obama fanatics trying to organize the day of service thing for the handful of U.S. citizens in the area. As a 64 year-old serious conservative I think it is a lot of nonsense, but they are absolutely taken in by this. They’ve become like the chavistas in Venezuela–no real sense of anything real, but emotional bandwagon thinking. They don’t know what it is they want to change, how to do it, or change to what. As much as we would dismiss them, they are effective. They worked hard for months getting Dems to vote absentee. They created websites and got the info out to DEMOCRATS. They flat work harder than we do to win and oftimes to them winning by any means is acceptable. We can’t just criticize and expect to survive.

This will be the first Inaugural and parade I won’t watch in all my adult life. No interest – not MY President – and I have no desire to watch what I will suspect will be rappers and african drums parading down the avenue. I’m wondering if the Marine Band (The President’s Own) and Marine Drum & Bugle Corps will lead off as is customary. I rather doubt it.

I think the front lines right now on the mandatory “volunteerism” battlefields are the high schools. Especially advanced classes, but I wouldn’t swear it hasn’t crept into the mainstream.
I know for certain that the IB diploma program (gee, have I ever mentioned it before?) requires a certain amount of “volunteerism” in 11th and 12th grade, and believe a typical form of it sneaking into other programs is as a requirement for civics classes. (Or whatever else your school district calls it.)

This program is in 948 schools in the United States according to the website, though not all of these are high schools. For example, if I read my search results correctly, 149 of them are elementary schools. This program has some UNESCO funding, by the way.
Brining myself back to topic, 634 of these schools would have the mandatory “volunteerism” component that I know about.
And it’s easy to get in there and see if any are in your own state or locality (or country).

Now out in MD, we already have a set amount of hours that kids have to log in to some kind of volunteer work before graduating high school. I had never heard about any of this until I moved out here from CA. It’s still odd to me.
I have to join my fellow veterans in already providing my 25 years of service. Any other service I provide will be for my local community as I see fit. If anything the bride of the Obamessiah is sapping my desire to do a damn thing for those that refuse to do for themselves.

I wonder what would happen to this country if all of us who believe in hard work for a living were to suddenly quit our jobs, thus, no longer paying taxes…would they impose this “public service” on us? I mean from January to May all our wages go to pay taxes anyway. Sounds to me like serfdom is already in effect.
