House Democratic whip pulls a race card over earmarks

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 13, 2009 03:52 PM

Oppose earmarks favored by a black Democrat congressman?

That’s RAAAAACIST!

And this incident involving House Democratic whip James Clyburn and South Carolina GOP Gov. Mark Sanford is utterly, shamelessly ridiculous.

Via The Hill:

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) accused House Democratic Whip James Clyburn (S.C.) of playing the race card instead of explaining increased spending he wants as part of a proposed stimulus package.

In an interview with The Hill, Sanford said Clyburn, the highest-ranking black lawmaker in the House, injected racial politics into their disagreement over what constitutes an earmark by raising questions about Sanford’s wealth and the plantation his family runs.

“He can’t come up with a solid argument” in favor of the earmarks, Sanford said.

President-elect Obama has said he wants a stimulus that is free of earmarks.

Clyburn, in comments made to Roll Call, called for allowing federal money included in the stimulus to be sent back home to lawmakers’ districts. Sanford and others say that’s an end-around that would allow earmarks in the legislation without calling them such.

The money would bypass governors’ offices and instead go straight to communities. Clyburn disagrees with Sanford, who opposes accepting that federal money.

Sanford has said he does not want additional federal funding despite the Palmetto State’s high unemployment rate and poor budget situation. This year, Sanford’s $5.8 billion proposed budget is about $1 billion less than the fiscal 2008 budget.

“[H]e happens to be a millionaire,” Clyburn said of Sanford. “He may not need help for the plantation his family owns, but the people whose grandparents and great-grandparents worked those plantations need the help” in the form of federal money.

By the way, if you have ever had the misfortune of listening to Democrat Rep. James Clyburn speak, you know what a complete moron he is. Go ahead. Call me RAAAACIST.

They’re part of a long standing tradition that will soon become a part of Presidential history.

The head of the Alabama NAACP, however, wants Mobile’s Azalea Trail Maids to stay home on Inauguration Day, claiming the group reminds him of slavery.

“These are not just regular costumes. These are the costumes that remind someone of the plantation in Gone with the Wind,” Edward Vaughn said in a phone interview.

Vaughn went on to say the group would be the laughing stock of the Inauguration. County leaders say nothing could be further from the truth.

“We want everyone to know that these young ladies do not need to be identified with slavery,” said Mobile County Commissioner Stephen Nodine.

“I don’t see what the dresses have to do with racism. I don’t see it. It’s just a regular dress to me. Just a dress they wore back in the day,” said Carolyn Tius of Montgomery.

Playing with licenses is how DC screwed with Heller, (that, and the requirement any gun be kept unloaded with ammo far away).

The law would be retroactive, if you already have a gun, you must register it, and get a federal gun license.

Clyburn is racist not mention a ridiculous tool, but he’s in a gerrymandered district that is mostly black. He will never lose. However, his margin of victory keeps shrinking. He was “down” to a 67.48% margin of victory this year.

Are you looking for a hand up or a handout? No, Mr. Clyburn, what they need is a healthy economy based on fiscal discipline and free market principles and devoid of government tampering. But you can never understand that because you are a simpleminded Democrat lackey forever addicted to plantation handouts – this time the fruits of other working peoples labor. You sir are a thief in receipt of stolen property. Shut your mouth and sit down.

Gov Sanford has a point that Rep Clyburn did not address the question directly, and went off on an unnecessray tangent.

Rep. Clyburn doesn’t know the whole history of slavery in his state:

In Charleston, South Carolina in 1860 125 free Negroes owned slaves; six of them owning 10 or more. Of the $1.5 million in taxable property owned by free Negroes in Charleston, more than $300,000 represented slave holdings (5). In North Carolina 69 free Negroes were slave owners (6).

In 1860 William Ellison was South Carolina’s largest Negro slaveowner. In Black Masters. A Free Family of Color in the Old South, authors Michael P. Johnson and James L. Roak write a sympathetic account of Ellison’s life. From Ellison’s birth as a slave to his death at 71, the authors attempt to provide justification, based on their own speculation, as to why a former slave would become a magnate slave master.

At least in the meantime ( and since all races are out of work) its cheaper for me to outsource the cotton picking to the hispanics rather than recruit in Africa these days…. lord knows these white kids are too lazy to pick a row.
