    Here in CA the Governator is anxious to get his share of bailout money. On the one hand I can support him due to the fact that CA taxpayers cover $10 billion/year in expenses related to illegal aliens – a problem created by the federal government refusing to enforce immigration law.

    On the other hand our RINO in Chief is looking for any way out of the forecasted $42 Billion 15 month deficit. While a handful of Republicans in the legislature are standing firm against tax increases by not giving the Dems the needed 2/3’s majority vote, Arnold is willing to allow increased taxes if he gets a few things he wants. A federal bailout just lets the Dems off the hook on rolling back the 40% increase in state spending under Arnold’s administration.

    No doubt your state will receive PLENTY of pork. Unfortunately, it will “disappear into the ether”.

    I am interested in the great plains and Rocky mountain states (but not the west coast). They will latch onto Federal funds in a shameless fashion and destroy the future of their children just like everyone else, but at least they will have some added infrastructure to show for it when all is said and done.

    Here in Utah conservatives have long realized Huntsman is a RINO. He has cozied up big time with Arnold in CA over global warming and has trouble matching his actions and words.

    Utah has been receiving tremendous growth in population thanks to the exodus from California. Unfortunately that has diluted the conservative base as well.

    Well, I certainly don’t support the feds on state bailouts. This is a dangerous potential power grab by the feds that will gut states rights. He who controls the $ controls the power. However, if a State governor refuses to ask for $ for whatever purpose, while other states have their liberal spending snouts stuck into the trough, I think they are doing a dis-service to their constituents. Heck, if my mother was giving away her assets, I would be there asking for my share, even htough I am probably the best off financially in my family. Besides, those states that were responsible with thier budgets (as responsible as any gov’t entity can be) probably paid more into the federal gov’t coffers since less of their citizens were living off the state. And besides, the feds won’t stop giving $ to the beggars until nothign is left to give. Just my thoughts. Get while the getting is good.

    As for Utah and their growth. If Utah wishes to use growth as a reason to increase their pork, then they should denote which states their population is coming from so we can reduce that state’s pork.

    I know, I know, I am laughing too! But it was fun to present that logic.

    Taxes too high and too many? Overcrowding? Housing costs too much? Liberals move with their feet too. Then they vote the same way in new states as in the old states, the results of which was what led them to move in the first place.

    The bottom line on all of this is what puts the governors in a hard spot. The federal government is going to give away this money come hell or high water. They are committed to it. Governors are facing backlash either way. If they refuse the money they risk angering their constitutents when adjacent states start to work on pet projects while they can’t. On the other hand if they take the money they are tarred and feathered as just more of the same politicians.

    Gov Sonny Perdue (R-GA) has been on both sides on this issue. He is compiling a list of projects but has not formally submitted anything. He hasn’t taken a stand like Gov Sanford in SC, probably waiting to see how it plays out there, but in the meantime our legislative session has started here in GA and he will submit his budget on Wedsnesday.

    I think Sonny is going to try and push the GA legislature to finalize the budget quickly, in the face of the state having to make $2 billion in cuts to the budget already, and whatever they cut he will submit to the Feds.

    If the governors thought there was a chance that congress would vote down the 21st Century Urban Renewal and Youth Indoctrination Package they might be more inclined to take a stand, but like I said it is going to pass because the Messiah has spoken and he must be obeyed.

    Sorry to hear that. NC was a state to which I once considered relocating. I guess there fewer and fewer states where one can escape liberal influence. Liberalism grows and spreads like a virus, no thanks to our education indoctrination system and the pervasive MSM and entertainment industry.

    Some stuff you should know about Jindal:

    1. He has already slashed the state budget for this FY to address the unanticipated budget shortfall resulting from falling gas prices, so these requests are NOT for a bailout (because words mean things);

    2. The VAST majority of the requested funds are funds that were long ago promised to the state (especially the coastal restoraton stuff) that the feds have waffled on;

    3. The Medicaid plan that was presented in November is an attempt to restructure a system that hemmorages money. It’s an attempt the save money, not to spend more.

    If you’ve ever had the misfortune of having to drive Louisiana’s highways, you’d likely understand his request for assistance. That being said, I really wish he wouldn’t ask.

    Understand. The example was not focusing on “who’s $ it really is”, rather on who will recieve the $. If NY gets $10B due to budget shortfalls, why shoudln’t, say Texas, also ask for $10B even though they don’t have a budget shortfall? The only way to stop this nonsense is to tell NY and the others to SUCK IT UP and cut their entitlement programs. Otherwise, Texas gets zip while NY gets away wiht poor mangement. Rewarding bad behavior while punishing good behavior.

    It seems that the only ‘fair’ way for Obama to manage the sate handouts will be by population. With many democrats voting for Obama, he will need to ’spread the wealth’ fairly to all of the states that voted for him.

    Now, as for how he handles those states that refused to vote for him, well, all I can say is good luck!

    For those that doubt that this will be the mentality of it all, just look at how he has assembled ONLY democrats to work out the details of the ’stimulus’.
