It seems that the only 'fair' way for Obama to manage the sate handouts will be by population. With many democrats voting for Obama, he will need to 'spread the wealth' fairly to all of the states that voted for him.

Now, as for how he handles those states that refused to vote for him, well, all I can say is good luck!

For those that doubt that this will be the mentality of it all, just look at how he has assembled ONLY democrats to work out the details of the 'stimulus'.

Understand. The example was not focusing on "who's $ it really is", rather on who will recieve the $. If NY gets $10B due to budget shortfalls, why shoudln't, say Texas, also ask for $10B even though they don't have a budget shortfall? The only way to stop this nonsense is to tell NY and the others to SUCK IT UP and cut their entitlement programs. Otherwise, Texas gets zip while NY gets away wiht poor mangement. Rewarding bad behavior while punishing good behavior.

Well and good. I also look at the oil and gambling revenue and have to wonder where all the money went. Most states never get that kind of income and blow it.

Just saying.

All I hear from politicians is "we need, we need, we need.....BILLIONS, maybe TRILLIONS." You know, a dime here and a dime there, and this adds up to some "real money" Push for term limits. I've had it with ALL of them!

<blockquote>Heck, if my mother was giving away her assets, I would be there asking for my share, even htough I am probably the best off financially in my family.</blockquote>

The problem is that the money DOES NOT BELONG TO THE GOVERNMENT. That's OUR money they're throwing away. And WE will be paying the tab.

Some stuff you should know about Jindal:

1. He has already slashed the state budget for this FY to address the unanticipated budget shortfall resulting from falling gas prices, so these requests are NOT for a bailout (because words mean things);

2. The VAST majority of the requested funds are funds that were long ago promised to the state (especially the coastal restoraton stuff) that the feds have waffled on;

3. The Medicaid plan that was presented in November is an attempt to restructure a system that hemmorages money. It's an attempt the save money, not to spend more.

If you've ever had the misfortune of having to drive Louisiana's highways, you'd likely understand his request for assistance. That being said, I really wish he wouldn't ask.

<blockquote>This is exactly what has happened to NC. This place is the California of the East Coast.</blockquote>

Sorry to hear that. NC was a state to which I once considered relocating. I guess there fewer and fewer states where one can escape liberal influence. Liberalism grows and spreads like a virus, no thanks to our <strike>education</strike> indoctrination system and the pervasive MSM and entertainment industry.

The bottom line on all of this is what puts the governors in a hard spot. The federal government is going to give away this money come hell or high water. They are committed to it. Governors are facing backlash either way. If they refuse the money they risk angering their constitutents when adjacent states start to work on pet projects while they can't. On the other hand if they take the money they are tarred and feathered as just more of the same politicians.

Gov Sonny Perdue (R-GA) has been on both sides on this issue. He is compiling a list of projects but has not formally submitted anything. He hasn't taken a stand like Gov Sanford in SC, probably waiting to see how it plays out there, but in the meantime our legislative session has started here in GA and he will submit his budget on Wedsnesday.

I think Sonny is going to try and push the GA legislature to finalize the budget quickly, in the face of the state having to make $2 billion in cuts to the budget already, and whatever they cut he will submit to the Feds.

If the governors thought there was a chance that congress would vote down the 21st Century Urban Renewal and Youth Indoctrination Package they might be more inclined to take a stand, but like I said it is going to pass because the Messiah has spoken and he must be obeyed.
