AP whitewashes for tax dodger

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 14, 2009 02:38 PM

Tuck away these euphemisms if you ever have tax troubles:

“Tax goofs.”

“Discrepancies.”

Tom Blumer scrapes away the Associated Press whitewashing.

This quote in the article shows just how in the tank this “journalist/liberal activists”is for their Messiah:

But newly released information about the tax goofs by Geithner, regarded as a brilliant financial markets specialist well-positioned to deal with the nation’s considerable economic problems, could complicate the process.

    “brilliant financial markets specialist”

They are joking with this load of crap right?

Look at where Mr.brilliant played a role in the financial mess that encompasses this nation right now:

    Where Was Geithner in Turmoil?

    By ANDREW ROSS SORKIN
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/25/business/25sorkin.html?_r=1&dbk

President-elect Barack Obama unveiled on Monday an economic team with deep experience handling economic crises. But does the man at the center of this star-studded cast, Timothy F. Geithner, the nominee for Treasury secretary, have what is needed to take the nation in a new financial direction?

But Mr. Geithner’s involvement in several ultimately ill-fated efforts to buttress the American financial system is the very reason some Wall Street C.E.O.’s — a number of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of piquing the man who regulates them — question whether he’s up to the challenge.
“We have only two things to say about Tim Geithner, who we do not know: A.I.G. and Lehman Brothers,” said Christopher Whalen of Institutional Risk Analytics. “Throw in the Bear Stearns/Maiden Lane fiasco for good measure,” he said.
“All of these ‘rescues’ are a disaster for the taxpayer, for the financial markets and also for the Federal Reserve System as an organization. Geithner, in our view, deserves retirement, not promotion.”

    Ouch.
“He was in the room at every turn of the crisis,” said another executive who participated in several such confidential meetings with Mr. Geithner. “You can look at that both ways.”

It is bad enough we have to see Barney”there is no problem with Fannie/Freddie”Frank everytime we turn on the TV to here who is getting bailed -out next, but is the press so far gone that these people are now “brilliant financial” minds.

    Give me a freaking break.

But it wasn’t until much later – days before Obama tapped him to head Treasury late last year – that Geithner paid back most of the taxes, incurred in 2001 and 2002. He did so after Obama’s transition team found that Geithner had made the same tax mistake his first two years at the IMF as the one the IRS found he made during his last two years there.

Lawyers don’t file tax returns. Well, most don’t. Even they know that filing is voluntary. And…if you make a mistake in the computations, it’s perjury. That’s why they don’t file.

They fill out a 1040, figure out what they owe, and have their own lawyer send in their check to the IRS. They never send in the 1040. If they get charged with “Willful failure to file” their lawyer just produces the check saying that their client paid his taxes. The gov’t lets it drop because the taxes are paid and there’s no way they’ll get a conviction.

I know this because my brother is a lawyer and he ran into this all the time.
