    Morning Iowahawk…

Incident at Amity: Steven Spielberg directs this cerebral CGI-heavy remake of ‘Jaws’ slated for summer release. Insiders say the 34-year update will feature “additional points of view” and “be less judgmental about sharks.” Starring Willam H. Macy as the anti-shark fundamentalist, and Russell Crowe as the Great White.

Silenced Wood: George Clooney stars and directs in this drama about the climate of fear among liberal ventriloquists during radio’s notorious Charlie McCarthy era.

Hershey Highway: Based on the Tony Kushner play, a candy factory worker (Joaquin Seymour Gyllenhall) and an Amish teen (John Phillips Sousa Huffnagel) find forbidden pleasure in a poignant love tale set against the gritty backdrop of Pennsylvania’s chocolate belt.

Me Billy: Based on the inspirational true story of a learning disabled man (Sean Penn) who rescues New Orleans from a racist flood with a magical red beer cup.

Dark Spinach: Brooding, conflicted superhero sailor man (Matt Damon) must face his own inner demons and canned vegetable addiction to save his anorexic lover (Gwyneth Paltrow) in the violent screen adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Featuring Mickey Rourke as Bluto.

Very few ditchings are successful–usually a wing tip hits first, the plane cartwheels, breaks up, and big injuries and quick sinking. That plane has two big engines under the wing–the “fuse pins” must have sheared off as designed and dropped the engines into the water before the wings hit. Also good design that still gave the pilot hydraulic steering power to the control surfaces after losing both engines.

Arab investors have lost 2.5 trillion dollars from the credit crunch, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad al-Sabah, whose country hosts an Arab economic summit next week, said on Friday.

“The Arab world has lost 2.5 trillion dollars in the past four months” as a result of the global financial crisis, Sheikh Mohammad told a press conference following a joint meeting of Arab foreign and finance ministers in Kuwait.

He also said that about 60 percent of development projects “have either been postponed or cancelled” by the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states because of the global meltdown.

Arab leaders who hold their first ever economic summit on January 19-20 will discuss the impact of the worldwide economic meltdown on the 22 Arab countries.

Perhaps they can fund a few less terrorist operations, Hamas, Hezbollah and such. If the Arabs are hurting perhaps ole’ Hugo and the Mad Mullahs of Tehran are too?

PKAmmoTroop, I mean you no disrespect. I only wish to challenge your thinking above. Maybe there’s just a misunderstanding between us.

There’s very little in BO’s agenda for which I wish him success. America’s success (economic, social or cultural) is rooted in its people, not its President or government. Government is the obstacle to progress and freedom. As BO defines success, I do not wish him to succeed. I hope he fails spectacularly if he wishes to take us down the socialist/secular humanist path and I believe that is the ONLY agenda in his mind. Like you, I want America to succeed, but I believe we will have to excel in spite of BO because every idea and philosophy he has promoted thus far leads to failure; utter and devastating failure. America will need to overcome the election of Obama in order to recover.

Let’s pray for the success of the American people and that we succeed in spite of leftist Hindenburg flying our way.

They are distressed when the country’s leaders are doing the right thing and when we are growing, progressing, and enjoying freedom.

HA! Glad to hear you have no arsonist tendencies, MtsEdge! :)

Yes, the upside down flag is really for “dire distress” signal purposes only. It was never intended to be used as a form of protest, so maybe I should clarify my comments about WHEN it is acceptable.

I have to say the 24-hour “train ride” news cycle is already inducing nausea here. I have family in the next room watching it (with contempt), but I can’t even bring myself to go in there; the audio is bad enough. He says nothing better than anyone.

I think it’s time to read “John Adams” or maybe watch “Braveheart” or “The Patriot.”

Incidentally, I watched “Cinderella Man” not long ago and it was great. The man (Russell Crowe) certainly triumphed over obstacles in his life. It was very motivating!

Sounds good! This week I checked out a copy of Atlas Shrugged at the library…I may be the only person on this thread who has never read it, but I’m very intrigued by the concept.

I like to read, and yet it looks a bit intimidating to me in terms of length. How are you liking it so far, JD?

You will enjoy Atlas Shrugged very much! I plan to read it again. Also, I received a DVD of The Patriot for Christmas. I had it on video, but wanted an upgrade. Loved that movie!!! If anyone hasn’t seen it, I recommend it for this weekend.

I liked The Patriot, too. Not much of a movie person, myself, but this was worth the time spent. Gives me that much more respect for what our forefathers sacrificed for those who would come after them.

I wish more movies were made of our War for Independence. What courage. We are so far removed from those men, few realize the bravery it took to make that stand. Not just to face the might of the British Empire with a handful of farmers and mountain men, but the dire consequences for them if they lost.

Any Hollywood types looking for a story that’s undertold, there it is.

I’ve seen only one hour of the HBO “John Adams” series and it was awesome!!! Once I recover from my layoff and temporary sub teaching job, I’m going to buy the entire series at Costco ($32.00?). That one hour episode “almost” had me standing and cheering. I can’t wait to watch the whole series! My friend who owns it says it is spectacular.

Their motivation was quite selfless, too. Not just concerned with saving their own hides…but concerned for the future of the fledgling nation. We have so much to thank them for.

I think you’re absolutely right, b-cat. Braveheart comes very close even though it’s the First War of Scottish Independence.

We ARE so far removed from those men in numbers, but I’m confident there are some exactly like them today. A national gun confiscation would bring them into the light. They’re just living in obscurity for now.

Relax? Unwind? I don’t get to relax and unwind for another 2.5 years, when my youngest graduates from high school.

He had a couple of friends spend the night (for the 3rd week in a row), I was kept busy feeding them at the same time I was dropping off and picking up my daughter from ballet. Oh yeah, and grocery shopping.

Today was another trip to and from ballet and a walk with my elder sons dogs (long story but the dogs are living with us until the end of July).

We are getting to go to the movies tonight, something we haven’t done in at least 6 months. My daughter and her friend are seeing Australia while my husband and I are seeing Defiance. I’d love to see Australia too, but my husband prefers to see Defiance. Our son has a date with his girlfriend.

Tomorrow is coupon clipping and housework, plus birthday shopping. Then we have dinner and cake with my family for my son’s and my Mom’s birthdays.

Throw in my work, my husband’s work (he works nights), concerts, performances, homework, etc.

And EVERY weekend is like this.

At least we have beautiful weather this weekend – 50s and 60s. It’s nice to get outside.

You can tell it was written 50 years ago, but it’s a pretty easy read. The biggest problem I have is that the type is small and my eyesight isn’t what it used to be.

Yet another round of the media’s favorite game “Guess that party.” An Oklahoma Sheriff is convicted of coercing sex from female prisoners. No mention of his political affiliation in the AP story, which is a dead giveaway that he’s a demonrat. Google confirms it.

No worries. When the Dear One’s Labor Department enacts “Comparable Worth” laws, employers will be obligated to pay seasoned airline pilots and perfume spritzers at Macy’s the same wage… all in the name of “fairness.”

Get ready for President BO to pardon cop killer Mubia any moment. Look for Danny Glover to be the media point person praising BO for releasing the convicted cop killer, condemning his conviction as racist and presenting his opinion of what took place rather than the facts, and watch the officer’s widow be only allowed to complain without the actual facts proving Mubia’s guilt being discussed – like the motive such as his brother being arrested after assaulting the same police officer with Mubia watching – Mubia’s fired handgun at the scene.
