I don’t want to think about next week or the next four years. We have our work cut out for us, but I plan on enjoying this very cold weekend with Mr. Durangodarlin.

Greg Ransom, don’t forget many of those bailouts went to foreign country investors as well. Sub-prime mortgages, like money in the bank don’t you know, and you and I get the pleasure of paying them off. Wish I could buy paper from other countries and be assured my investment would always have backing.

As far as the coronation next week – I’ll be putting as much as I can of my vast collection of video taped gymnastics, basketball, sci-fi, and whatever else onto dvd. Between all that and work, I should miss the entire coronation. I probably won’t even try to listen to Rush, Liddy, or Tammy Bruce all week because I’m sure that the radio stations will have them pre-empted for The One.

Instead, I’m spending my time taking Paul’s advice and focusing on the positives:

Had an interesting conversation with a bank person last week. A CD was due and went down to retrieve the little devil and hopefully find one with better return. The bank person practically ducked when they had to say, out loud, what the new rates were, but that also many of their customers were paying off anything carrying higher interest rates than what the banks are paying to use your money. What a novel idea, paying off debts!

Unwind? Exercise and sleep — which I have not been getting much of the past few days which may be because of . . .

The coronation? Trying not to think of it. At. All. If I do, the best I can come up is January 20th: the day the Republic falls, Bush finally leaves, and A New Dope ascends to power.

This is such a disaster, cultural, political, and economic that it is nothing I want to dwell on. Even the National Review is pretty much admitting these days the defeat of conservatism is as complete as it can be. We’re not fighting back. We don’t know what to fight back for. We’ve got nothing to fight back with. We’re lost.

The NRO people write things like “We need to know more economics” while they steadfastly ignore the works and person of Thomas Sowell, treating him as if he were some crazy dude in the attic that it’s poor manners to mention. I do not understand establishment conservatives. Is it some kind of death wish?

As for what else is on my mind? I would say layoff worries loom large these days. And just when the family’s situation was starting to level off financially. But it always happens that way.

Everytime a RINO speaks, a liberal earns his wings.

To unwind, whew, it has been a long week. Actually, I had a late dinner and am going to pour a Dalmore cigar malt and read Dale Carnegie’s “Lincoln the Unknown”.

I wanted to offer this Lincoln quote: “Property is the fruit of labor…property is desirable…is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.” – Abraham Lincoln, 1864

In addition, I emailed the President and VP requesting consideration of at least a commutation of border patrol agents Ramos’ and Compean’s sentences, and a full pardon if possible. I think they’re probably guys who screwed up a little at a difficult and underpaid job.

Living in the PHL area, I see a lot of news involving people who’re repeat offenders who’ve done far worse than Ramos and Compean, who receive miniscule sentences and come out and do increasingly horrific things.

I’m looking forward to the NFL games, but trying to avoid the media coverage of the thing that’s going to ruin my 33rd birthday on tuesday.

And I don’t consider this weekend as much a funeral of the bill of rights as a celebration of its life.

I was visiting my 83 year old dad tonight and was watching NBC news (not something I usually do but he doesn’t have cable). More then half of the news was about US Airways Flight 1549 and especially its heroic pilot Chesley Sullenberger and only about a five minute segment on PEBO (President Elect Barack Obama) and his upcoming inaguration. Anyway, It occured to me, how long will it be before the MSM begins to investigate Sullenberger the way they did Gov. Palin and ‘Joe The Plumber’; digging into his back ground and investigating his airline safety consulting company? After all we can’t have him overshadowing…THE ONE, stealing PEBO’s spotlight?

My sympathies, chapoutier, on the other meaning of your birthday.

No no. Whenever (when I was single) I would tell a girl that, it was most often “awwww….that’s so cute.”

Chapoutier would take what he can could get.

And now that I am married, I we have a system where one year, we celebrate V-day (meaning I plan it) and the next it is my birthday (she plans it). Since I really don’t care about my birthday I get the advantage off having to worry about Valentines day only every other year. Horray!

I share a birthday with Jefferson Davis and Josephine Baker. I don’t think they knew each other.

It might have been fun to know La Baker (as she would have been known in some European circles). Well, maybe not as you would then be not likely to join the fun on these web pages.

Chapoutier’s reply is better than mine, but don’t tell him I said so.

My father used to sail off on a Navy ship for six months at a time, and it seemed the most normal thing in the world to me–at least, that’s what I remember.
