Not all conservatives are singing O-Kumbaya

I respect the historic tradition of inauguration day, not the cult of personality driving the schlock festivities now taking place.
Pomp and circumstance have been replaced with pimp and self-aggrandizement — all topped with a heapful of double standards.
I’m not the only one who thinks so. Politico’s Daniel Libit has a piece this morning quoting several conservatives willing to dissent from the Beltway O-Kumbaya. The intro:
With Barack Obama’s approval ratings in the 70s and his visage plastered on every shop window and Metro card in Washington, it’s hard to remember that 58 million Americans voted for the other guy.
Even President Bush — who presumably counts himself among that group — said last week that Obama’s inauguration is “a moment of hope and pride.”
That’s not exactly how Michelle Malkin describes it.
“Jan. 20 has turned into a schlock inauguration, (where) every last moocher has come to cash in on Obama,” says the conservative blogger and pundit. “There are some of us who want to bang our heads against the wall.”
While most Republicans now in office are saying all the right things about Tuesday’s proceedings — roll tape on “peaceful transfer of power” and “historic moment for the country” sound bites — some conservatives can’t quite get themselves in the “We Are One” mood.
Not even for a day.
On his radio show last week, Rush Limbaugh railed against “people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds. We have to give him a chance.’”
“Why?” Limbaugh demanded. “They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year and a half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”
I do not pledge allegiance to The Obama States of America.
Getting ready for the countdown.
3, 2, 1…RAAAAAAAACIST!

Sister Toldjah notes that the AP has finally acknowledged the Obama-fest’s pricey pricetag in a dicey economy. ST points out Baghdad Jim McDermott’s disingenuous green defense of Obama-fest and skewers the hypocrisy:
The only thing more pathetic than McDermott’s hypocrisy is the fact that so many Obama worshippers who continue to descend on the Capitol in advance of PEBO’s inauguration are the same types who slammed John McCain as an out-of-touch rich guy living off his wife’s mega-wealth, so out of touch that he couldn’t remember how many houses they owned, and also criticizing Gov. Palin for spending decisions on her’s and her family’s wardrobes that she did not make, while at the same they painted Barack Obama as a humble guy who “gets the common man.” How many of these same people (including those in the mainstream press) would be looking the other way if it had been McCain/Palin holding this big, expensive Lincolnesque inaugural ceremony in the middle of this bleak economy?
The numbers would be in the single digits, I suspect.

The schlock inauguration continues: Obama tattoos. Ew.

I just watched both those games. Is the Universe going to implode now that the Cardinals have made the Super Bowl?

Driving earlier today was a nightmare with that P.F. Chang’s marathon.
I, on the other hand, want Obama to be a successful President… Because in order to do so, he must adopt Conservative principles!
Why This Conservative Hopes President Obama Will Succeed
Agree. I have my doubts that he will see the light, but there is always…um…hope that he will change.
1. Freedom of Choice Act
2. His views of
redistribution of wealthsocialism and the U.S. Constitution.3. His view that “we cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
4. His $845 billion Global Poverty Act.
5. His plans to disarm this country.
6. His appointments of woefully unprepared and, in some cases, dishonest people to key positions of his administrations (i.e. CIA, Sec. of State, Sec. of Treasury, etc.).
7. His ideas for a $1.2 trillion “stimulus” package. (When will those in D.C. ever learn that Keynesian economics never works?)
8. His pushing for gays serving openly in the military. (Besides the obvious issues, whenever I have a gay Soldier who shows up late to work, before I punish him I have to prepare myself for the inevitable charge that I’m discriminating against him.)
9. Biden’s call for support: “And he’s gonna need help [when a crisis hits]. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.” (So, in other words, “don’t think too hard. Just support our guy Obama.” I’ll pass.)
So, why do I hope Obama fails? Maybe it has something to do with what’s best for the country.

Yep. I say the same.
from watching the MSM you would think this is the first time presidents have changed and that every person who voted voted for 0bama.
Its just took me parts of 3 days to just read my buyers contract alone. And its a standard statewide contract. (I found several discrepancies that the broker had to fix, that could have easily screwed me over by them filling in the doc at a later date without my approval)
I havent even gotten to the soil analysis/reports or the HOA or the community or the local mill tax boards or the loan doc itself.
And car dealers hate me. Before I take delivery I actually read the contracts line by line at their desks while I am in their office. Its usually like nothing they have ever expereinced before in their career.
Watching what is happening in Washington, D.C., makes me wonder if the USSR won the “cold war” after all…“Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!”
Me too and yes I did know that: I just could not pass a chance to tell a lawyer joke.
Lock and Load laddie.
If Bush had gotten only 1/4 of the positive stories from the MSM during his 2001 inauguration, he would be in better shape today.
On the other hand, when Obama succeeds in flushing the constitution, the MSM will sing his praises.
Some things just don’t make any sense.
Speaking of “peaceful transitions”, Karl Rove was on this a.m. and told about when the republicans took office in 2000, and the Clinton dems left the White House. Apparently, the “rumors” of them trashing the place and stealing things was true. Another example of Bush taking the high road and not making a big deal out of it. Rove said his computer had some foul smelling stuff poured on it. The “W”s on the computer keyboards were stolen, and numerous offices were vandalized. Yes, those classy liberals! In sharp contrast, Rove said that the White House and all the offices will be left in perfect condition for the new administration. I am so proud to be on the side of the people who have respect for others, even those we disagree with. That is not to say we can’t call them morons. Because they are. We just wouldn’t vandalize or otherwise harm them.
OT:
“Is Ehud’s Poodle Acting Up? ” aka fresh steaming pile of Pat Buchanan
I think cheneys approval rating went up after that.
Its LAWYER session!!!
Speaking of Obama worship, did anyone see the MSNBC commercial during last night’s AFC Championship game? A close-up image of a glowing Jesus-like Obama with outstreached hands, followed by another photo of worshipping supplicants in a crowd of dreamy faces. That was one of the most creepy, and frankly, nauseating displays I have ever seen produced by a “news” organization.
Also this news article:
Obama tattoos??? REALLY??? Well at least they will be able to prove thier loyalty to the ONE!!!!
Obama tattoos are the mark of the least.
In so many ways Pat Buchanan is a good guy, or was. But his father’s old anti-Semitism is rearing it’s ugly head and Mr. Buchanan is becoming little more than a grouch. His hate and contempt for Israel is particular and Jews in general is consuming anything good he could be doing. It has clouded all his later works.
¡Ole’! ¡Muy bueno!

Who said that the Union has 57 states?
Who said that the word “jobs” has three letters?
You may know the answers, but you probably won’t post them.
This needs a photoshop of Goatsee guy with an “Obama O” surrounding his orifice…
After all, that is where he will be inserting it in all of us…
Buffett is proof that even idiots could get rich in this country at one point. Hey, Buffett, feel free to write a check for a few billion to the US Treasury anytime you want!
If you don’t understand the difference between mis-speaking and actually being a moron, well, you’re a moron.

Ah, I see you know the answer. Hence the refusal to give it and the personal insult instead. Well done.
The point is that P.E. Obama and V.P.E. Biden (there, I gave the answer myself) said these things, and were still elected. If those statements had come from Palin, she would have been forced to leave the ticket well before the election. I’m pointing out a double standard.
And as for you calling her or myself a “moron”, well, “sticks and stones . . .”.
Given your comments about bush over the years…. Niether bush nor obama are morons. Bush is just not a great public speaker. Plenty of very intelligent people can’t speak well.
I can just see people with Obama tatoos 2 years from now being willing to use a belt sander to try and remove them.

I understand that can be done painlessly nowadays . . . but they may feel a need to physically suffer as “peanance” . . .
The difference if obvious:
If you are a Republican or a Conservative, then anything you say is taken serious and you are considered stupid for saying it.
If you are a Democrat or a Liberal, you can say anything you choose, defend it for day, then simply say you were ‘taken out ot context’ or were joking, and all will be forgiven.
Simple, right Eagle?
Too bad the Obamessiah didnt get his image copyrighted. He’d be a wealthier man. Oh, i forgot, wealth is anathema to liberals.
Then how do you account for Slo-Joe Biden?

WAY OT…. Pardon for Ramos and Compean! Fox News reporting that Bush will pardon…
Well said, Michelle. This inauguration has turned into the most grandiose display since Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of France.
Are you kidding. All these libtards around here are still proudly sporting their Gore and Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers
*cross-posted in Crap Sandwich tread*
ooops — It sounds like there may not an actual Pardon for Ramos and Compean, but their sentences may be commuted. So GWB doesn’t have the courage to state that they should not have even been prosecuted, only that they have paid their debt to society.
Weasly…
tread = thread (PIMF)
Hey, Fox News is reporting that Bush has commuted the sentences of the two Border Patrol agents from Texas. Compolean and Ramos? Wah-hoooooooo! Hoo-rah, Mr. President!
MM, please file under “Blind Squirrel Finds His Nuts”!
Correction: Society and Bush owes them a debt
#325 — I totally agree! I was simply stating the difference between commuting a sentence and granting a pardon. The former implies that the person’s debt to society has been paid. The latter means that they should not have been prosecuted in the first place. Big difference — and way too weasly (sp?) a way out for GWB. He should have given them a full pardon.
(lol) not correcting you
just correcting the whole fiasco
Ah… I was worried that you (or others) might misinterpret my comment. BTW, I sure wish you could correct this whole fiasco! Still so sad for them…
The only words that Obama could utter tomorrow that would satisfy me are:
“I hereby resign the office of the President of the United States.”
Anything else he says will be socialist, fear mongering tripe and should be ignored.
I can’t, and won’t, watch any of the “coronation” of BO. The networks are fawning over him like the second coming of JFK. But no press coverage for Bush in 2000 and 2004! Think of the money spent to get ONE individual elected. It’s staggering. Why should ONE person have so much power? This country was founded as an alternative to the tyrannical nature of monarchies. Decentralized power counteracts consolidated government(which is always corrupt). So it’s bizarre to me that a supposed Constitutional Republic still clings to “president worship” just as the English attached a divinity to the King and Queen. It’s as if the “king worshipers” in the days of the Founding Fathers always kept their hooks in the government, subverting and corrupting until they achieved what we have today: consolidated, all-powerful federal government. Observe how many people hang on Obama’s every word and decision like he’s all-wise and all-knowing. He’s just another socialist who wants to control everything, including speech and thought. I wonder what Orwell would say today. But I still believe that true liberty and the rule of law can prevail. Let’s hope the socialists flop like ALL inevitably have in the past.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Obama succeed with any good things he may be considering, but on the whole I have to agree with Rush. If he succeeds in the things he ran on, America is screwed.

I just got here to read MM’s headlines today. Haven’t had time to read through all the comments, but will protesters be allowed at the inaugaration or will the media even report it if they are allowed?
Check out this 2005 story when Bush was inaugarated. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2005/jan2005/wash-j21.shtml
I called the Whitehouse, but they are not taking messages for the President anymore. I wanted to thank them for Ramos and Compean commutation, but got cut off. Anyway, I am not broken down by the Obamamania, and want to hold him to the same standards as teh rest of teh presidents.
People hope he succeeds for many reasons:
1. They agree with his ideas (Liberals).
2. They are hopeful a Black man can “succeed”, because in their hearts they think he can’t, but he’s the President, so we need him to succeed.
3. People are afraid of being called racist if they attack his policies or appointees (Conservatives).
I have none of those fears, as I am a 47-yr old American whose dad was black, and Mom was white. I married a 45-yr old Mechelle, and we have three kids, 4-11 yrs old. I can say what I want, and get away with it. I just “hope” I can “change” many minds to look at Barack as they would any other President: not as a Black man, but as a person who must do what is best for the country, and who must be scrutinized, or he will take full advantage of us to implement his socialistic agenda. If he’s such a strong, smart person, let him prove it like any other elected official. No free pass.
Oh, and he will use Nancy Pelosi, and be used by her and Harry Reid too, to no betterment of our country.
On the bright side, Bill Ayers not allowed into Canada. Hat-tip to Hot-Air

This conservative isn’t all Ga-ga about Obama, and the Love-in he’s gwetting. In fact, Electing Barack Hussein Obama to the highest office in the USa and the world’s most powerful position was the WORST thing the US Electorate could ever have done.
Now, before anybody starts calling me a racist, bigot, narrow-minded (I will ascribe to this one to a degree), or any other ephithet and label, please understand that I do tyhink it is awesome that a black man has been elected to POTUS. However, that is where the “good times” for Obama end for me. He may be black, but he isn’t the correct black man for the job of POTUS.
Barack Obama, with his uber-liberal congress, will change the USA irreparably and forever. Through FOCA, Abortion will be the law of the land, and a new generation coming out of the eight years of Obama will have no fight in them to try and overturn it (and, uyes, I do believe Obama will get a second term in a wash; in fact, he may get the constitutional ban on a president serving more than two terms overturned, and if he does that, expect him to be in the White House a LONG time). Despite the President’s relative silence on it, he’ll get homosexuality listed as a federally protected minority, granting themevery “right” under the sun. Guns will be harder and harder to own. Christianity will be even more marginalised – in fact, one little “fundamentalist ‘incident’” and he may even take emergency measures against Bible-believers in a similar vein that President Bush took emergency steps with terrorists.
These are just a few, folks, and this “stimulus” package is merely the tip of a toweringly hugr iceberg.
God Help Us!
