Not all conservatives are singing O-Kumbaya

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 18, 2009 11:12 AM

I respect the historic tradition of inauguration day, not the cult of personality driving the schlock festivities now taking place.

Pomp and circumstance have been replaced with pimp and self-aggrandizement — all topped with a heapful of double standards.

I’m not the only one who thinks so. Politico’s Daniel Libit has a piece this morning quoting several conservatives willing to dissent from the Beltway O-Kumbaya. The intro:

With Barack Obama’s approval ratings in the 70s and his visage plastered on every shop window and Metro card in Washington, it’s hard to remember that 58 million Americans voted for the other guy.

Even President Bush — who presumably counts himself among that group — said last week that Obama’s inauguration is “a moment of hope and pride.”

That’s not exactly how Michelle Malkin describes it.

“Jan. 20 has turned into a schlock inauguration, (where) every last moocher has come to cash in on Obama,” says the conservative blogger and pundit. “There are some of us who want to bang our heads against the wall.”

While most Republicans now in office are saying all the right things about Tuesday’s proceedings — roll tape on “peaceful transfer of power” and “historic moment for the country” sound bites — some conservatives can’t quite get themselves in the “We Are One” mood.

Not even for a day.

On his radio show last week, Rush Limbaugh railed against “people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds. We have to give him a chance.’”

“Why?” Limbaugh demanded. “They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year and a half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”

I do not pledge allegiance to The Obama States of America.

Getting ready for the countdown.

3, 2, 1…RAAAAAAAACIST!

***

Sister Toldjah notes that the AP has finally acknowledged the Obama-fest’s pricey pricetag in a dicey economy. ST points out Baghdad Jim McDermott’s disingenuous green defense of Obama-fest and skewers the hypocrisy:

The only thing more pathetic than McDermott’s hypocrisy is the fact that so many Obama worshippers who continue to descend on the Capitol in advance of PEBO’s inauguration are the same types who slammed John McCain as an out-of-touch rich guy living off his wife’s mega-wealth, so out of touch that he couldn’t remember how many houses they owned, and also criticizing Gov. Palin for spending decisions on her’s and her family’s wardrobes that she did not make, while at the same they painted Barack Obama as a humble guy who “gets the common man.” How many of these same people (including those in the mainstream press) would be looking the other way if it had been McCain/Palin holding this big, expensive Lincolnesque inaugural ceremony in the middle of this bleak economy?

The numbers would be in the single digits, I suspect.

The schlock inauguration continues: Obama tattoos. Ew.

The all-star video lives up (or down) to expectations. Allah’s got it.

    EXACTIMUNDO!!!

What has happened to our formerly conservative representatives, is not isolated. It’s happening nationwide. Conservatives are being beaten down at every turn, and instead of fighting back for what is right, have begun a landslide accommodation. Enough is enough, for God’s sake!

When did the fear of being labeled a “whatever”-phobe become more important to conservatives than fighting for what is right and just? Can we please just start supporting candidates who are not political wimps?

Conservative Americans are starving for stiff-spined leadership who are willing to give as good as they get, and are not in fear of the liberal labeling machine!

Even though there is no draft there is still a registration requirement at age 18 …

There was a gap of a couple years when there was no registration. I asked about registering after I turned 18 in 1976, and was told that it was no longer a requirement. President Carter instituted registration a year or two later. (In fact, I never have registered for the draft–quite legally. I’m currently a Reservist, so don’t brand me as unpatriotic.)

So, don’t count me in those who say “he is now our President and we need to show support for the office”. If Hugo Chavez was being sworn in would I be expected to support the President? No way.

Even with size advantage, I’d imagine US and ROK supremacy in machines and training would mean the Norks would get spanked.

But Seoul is within long range arty and rocket range, and the Norks might use chemical weapons. Panicked civilians fleeing South would make it harder to reinforce the border, that is for sure.

SEOUL, South Korea – South Korea said its army remained on alert Sunday, a day after North Korea threatened military action in response to Seoul’s hard-line stance against its communist regime.

The latest harsh rhetoric from the isolated regime could be a test for Barack Obama days before he is sworn in as the new U.S. president, an analyst said.

The North’s Korean People’s Army called South Korea’s president a “traitor” and accused him of preparing a military provocation, according to a statement carried Saturday by the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Pyongyang said it was adopting “an all-out confrontational posture” and warned of a “strong military retaliatory step.” South Korea immediately put its forces on alert.

You lost the election. The country rejected your guy. Get over yourselves already.

You are aware that the entire country did not vote for your guy, right? About 58 million people didn’t. Do you think that any dissent should be silenced? Did you also get over yourself when your guys Gore and Kerry lost? I highly doubt it. The libtards have been throwing tantrums for years. So while we have more class than to throw childish tantrums, we care about this country enough to educate ourselves and fight socialism & marxism when we see it, and that’s exactly what we are seeing.

I am not so sure about Jindal. He seems exotic like Obama. Plus I saw his speech to his native asian supporters. In that he was pandering big time to his ancestral country. That really made me wonder …

Understand this is about invalidating an election that was lost rather than taking a look at an issue that came up during a campaign.

We wont even go into the 2000 fit the left threw over that election.

    Exotic???

    Main Entry: ex·ot·ic

    Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin exoticus, from Greek exōtikos, from exō
    Date: 1599
1: introduced from another country : not native to the place where found

The point is that some conservatives couldn’t accept the fact that Obama won and looked for other reasons to keep him out of the Oval Office, including the Birth Certificate nonsense. What’s the difference between that and CA protesters looking to repeal Prop. 8?

The sarcasm flew right over your head, huh?

Jindal has spent his entire life in the United States. Speaking a second language makes him exotic?

Blog users mentioning a fact is quite different than the lynch mob that the left has formed on the Prop 8 Issue. Then you throw in morons like Hanks who attack the democratic process as “Un American” because they lost the election.

No one is calling the election of Obama un American just stupid.

BTW, I do question the patriotism of Obama and most liberal intellectuals.

Love of a mythical utopian America made over as a Marxist state (with the idea that our communists can avoid the mistakes of Lenin and Stalin, Mao, Kim, Pol Pot and Ceauşescu) while hating or pitying the working class, tax paying and military serving citizens of America, who are still the majority, as bitter clingers of guns and God is not a love of America.

Thanks to a media solidly in the bag for Obama, many less informed citizens who share basic American values like self reliance, were tricked into voting for a man who looks down on them as rubes.

Obama spent almost nine times as much as McCain did, much of the money donated to a web site intentionally set up to accept illegal donations via pre-paid debit cards, so, in a sense, the fact that John McCain, not well respected by the conservative base, did as well as he did in losing (and most of those votes, like mine, were against Obama and for Palin, not for McCain) suggests the country probably does not embrace the ideology of a man who disguised his ideology and campaigned on vague slogans like “Hope” and “Change”.
