Not all conservatives are singing O-Kumbaya

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 18, 2009 11:12 AM

I respect the historic tradition of inauguration day, not the cult of personality driving the schlock festivities now taking place.

Pomp and circumstance have been replaced with pimp and self-aggrandizement — all topped with a heapful of double standards.

I’m not the only one who thinks so. Politico’s Daniel Libit has a piece this morning quoting several conservatives willing to dissent from the Beltway O-Kumbaya. The intro:

With Barack Obama’s approval ratings in the 70s and his visage plastered on every shop window and Metro card in Washington, it’s hard to remember that 58 million Americans voted for the other guy.

Even President Bush — who presumably counts himself among that group — said last week that Obama’s inauguration is “a moment of hope and pride.”

That’s not exactly how Michelle Malkin describes it.

“Jan. 20 has turned into a schlock inauguration, (where) every last moocher has come to cash in on Obama,” says the conservative blogger and pundit. “There are some of us who want to bang our heads against the wall.”

While most Republicans now in office are saying all the right things about Tuesday’s proceedings — roll tape on “peaceful transfer of power” and “historic moment for the country” sound bites — some conservatives can’t quite get themselves in the “We Are One” mood.

Not even for a day.

On his radio show last week, Rush Limbaugh railed against “people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds. We have to give him a chance.’”

“Why?” Limbaugh demanded. “They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year and a half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”

I do not pledge allegiance to The Obama States of America.

Getting ready for the countdown.

3, 2, 1…RAAAAAAAACIST!

Sister Toldjah notes that the AP has finally acknowledged the Obama-fest’s pricey pricetag in a dicey economy. ST points out Baghdad Jim McDermott’s disingenuous green defense of Obama-fest and skewers the hypocrisy:

The only thing more pathetic than McDermott’s hypocrisy is the fact that so many Obama worshippers who continue to descend on the Capitol in advance of PEBO’s inauguration are the same types who slammed John McCain as an out-of-touch rich guy living off his wife’s mega-wealth, so out of touch that he couldn’t remember how many houses they owned, and also criticizing Gov. Palin for spending decisions on her’s and her family’s wardrobes that she did not make, while at the same they painted Barack Obama as a humble guy who “gets the common man.” How many of these same people (including those in the mainstream press) would be looking the other way if it had been McCain/Palin holding this big, expensive Lincolnesque inaugural ceremony in the middle of this bleak economy?

The numbers would be in the single digits, I suspect.

The schlock inauguration continues: Obama tattoos. Ew.

The all-star video lives up (or down) to expectations. Allah’s got it.

Speaking of Obama worship, did anyone see the MSNBC commercial during last night’s AFC Championship game? A close-up image of a glowing Jesus-like Obama with outstreached hands, followed by another photo of worshipping supplicants in a crowd of dreamy faces. That was one of the most creepy, and frankly, nauseating displays I have ever seen produced by a “news” organization.

    Also this news article:

Buffett Says US in ‘Economic Pearl Harbor’

OMAHA, Neb.–Billionaire investor Warren Buffett says the U.S. is engaged in an “economic Pearl Harbor.”

In an interview that aired Sunday on “Dateline NBC,” the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. said the nation’s economic situation is not as bad at World War II or the Great Depression, but it’s still pretty severe…. “You couldn’t have anybody better in charge,” the Omaha resident said of Obama, who’ll be sworn into office on Tuesday. As one of Obama’s economic advisers, Buffett said the president-elect listens to what his advisers say, but ultimately comes up with better ideas.

    Questions:
If this is another “Pearl Harbor”, who was it that attacked us? I submit the Congressional Democrats. Why doesn’t Buffett advise The One to prosecute them? Why is The One “You couldn’t have anybody better in charge,” ? He still, as of this date, has displayed no skill or history at problem solving. Does Buffett know something about the power structure promoting this little man from the Chicago Machine? Something we don’t know? Again, Obama has no track record of accomplishing anything but his own career advancement. This is the classic puppet scenario.

Ah, I see you know the answer. Hence the refusal to give it and the personal insult instead. Well done.

The point is that P.E. Obama and V.P.E. Biden (there, I gave the answer myself) said these things, and were still elected. If those statements had come from Palin, she would have been forced to leave the ticket well before the election. I’m pointing out a double standard.

And as for you calling her or myself a “moron”, well, “sticks and stones . . .”.

If you are a Republican or a Conservative, then anything you say is taken serious and you are considered stupid for saying it.

If you are a Democrat or a Liberal, you can say anything you choose, defend it for day, then simply say you were ‘taken out ot context’ or were joking, and all will be forgiven.

The latter means that they should not have been prosecuted in the first place. Big difference — and way too weasly (sp?) a way out for GWB. He should have given them a full pardon.

I can’t, and won’t, watch any of the “coronation” of BO. The networks are fawning over him like the second coming of JFK. But no press coverage for Bush in 2000 and 2004! Think of the money spent to get ONE individual elected. It’s staggering. Why should ONE person have so much power? This country was founded as an alternative to the tyrannical nature of monarchies. Decentralized power counteracts consolidated government(which is always corrupt). So it’s bizarre to me that a supposed Constitutional Republic still clings to “president worship” just as the English attached a divinity to the King and Queen. It’s as if the “king worshipers” in the days of the Founding Fathers always kept their hooks in the government, subverting and corrupting until they achieved what we have today: consolidated, all-powerful federal government. Observe how many people hang on Obama’s every word and decision like he’s all-wise and all-knowing. He’s just another socialist who wants to control everything, including speech and thought. I wonder what Orwell would say today. But I still believe that true liberty and the rule of law can prevail. Let’s hope the socialists flop like ALL inevitably have in the past.

People hope he succeeds for many reasons:
    1. They agree with his ideas (Liberals).
    2. They are hopeful a Black man can “succeed”, because in their hearts they think he can’t, but he’s the President, so we need him to succeed.
    3. People are afraid of being called racist if they attack his policies or appointees (Conservatives).

I have none of those fears, as I am a 47-yr old American whose dad was black, and Mom was white. I married a 45-yr old Mechelle, and we have three kids, 4-11 yrs old. I can say what I want, and get away with it. I just “hope” I can “change” many minds to look at Barack as they would any other President: not as a Black man, but as a person who must do what is best for the country, and who must be scrutinized, or he will take full advantage of us to implement his socialistic agenda. If he’s such a strong, smart person, let him prove it like any other elected official. No free pass.

Oh, and he will use Nancy Pelosi, and be used by her and Harry Reid too, to no betterment of our country.

However, that is where the “good times” for Obama end for me. He may be black, but he isn’t the correct black man for the job of POTUS.

Barack Obama, with his uber-liberal congress, will change the USA irreparably and forever. Through FOCA, Abortion will be the law of the land, and a new generation coming out of the eight years of Obama will have no fight in them to try and overturn it (and, uyes, I do believe Obama will get a second term in a wash; in fact, he may get the constitutional ban on a president serving more than two terms overturned, and if he does that, expect him to be in the White House a LONG time). Despite the President’s relative silence on it, he’ll get homosexuality listed as a federally protected minority, granting themevery “right” under the sun. Guns will be harder and harder to own. Christianity will be even more marginalised – in fact, one little “fundamentalist ‘incident’” and he may even take emergency measures against Bible-believers in a similar vein that President Bush took emergency steps with terrorists.

These are just a few, folks, and this “stimulus” package is merely the tip of a toweringly hugr iceberg.
