Obama-fest open thread: What are you doing?

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 19, 2009 02:09 PM

For those of you who have chosen not to partake in the O-fest O-rgy, what are you doing instead?

Tuning in to the Jon and Kate plus 8 marathon? Keeping the TV off completely?

As I noted earlier, I’m diving into the Generational Theft Act of 2009 proposal, which I’m hauling to my daughter’s horse-riding and piano lessons this afternoon.

After Bread & Circuses, someone’s gotta be ready to clean up the crap.

Gird those loins, people.

I plan to work all day, fend off swooning of my liberal co-workers, and use my background which is identical to Obama’s, except that I am a thinking Conservative to highlight the policies of man standing behind the green curtain pulling the levers of power. I will record the part of the inauguration ceremony from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, to see him swear on the Bible, and to see if he will swear to uphold, defend and protect the Constitution or if he will swear to ignore, offend and correct the Constitution. I want to be able to use his oath to contrast the Constitution with his plans and policies as they solidify from their current Jello-state.

Oh no! There are three of us!
Happy birthday in advance, purealchemy. When I was a kid, it was kinda cool having Inauguration Day as my birthday. Plus, I always got that question right on history tests. Well, that “minor thrill” has been tainted by our incoming socialist… I’ve been in a foul funk about it since November 5. At least January 21 is just around the corner. A brave new world… *gagging sound*

Thanks! Same to you. I found one or two others here with birthdays tomorrow.
Doesn’t that seem like a high percentage for the number of people on a blog like this? Maybe it means something, like one is predisposed to politic interest.
I’m turning 51. Have a vivid memory of sitting on my mother’s lap when she told me that Mr. Johnson had defeated Mr. Goldwater, then painted a verbal picture of a dark cloud like a plaque descending on the country and its future. Thank God she isn’t here to see this debacle.

I still cannot figure out how any sane person claiming to be a conservative can find any reason to defend the last 8 years of George W. Bush presidency. Everything he did was so destructive to our country, and now the nation is in shamble. If his actions were the core values of the Republican Party then hopefully there won’t be any conservative government anytime soon. Bush and his fellow con(*) crooks have raped and pillaged the taxpayer, devalued the dollar, and bankrupted the treasury. His illegal and never ending wars in Afghanistan & Iraq, the latter under false pretenses are total disasters!
Now that America has elected the best and most popular President ever, it is great time that we all work together to restore the lost dignity of this great nation. By electing Obama, Americans finally realized that it was time to save our nation, and take back the govt that belongs to us. Bush’s farewell address was historic, it meant the end and the defeat of sad years of Conservatism and Neoconservatism.

BTW this is Bush’s only success. Good for him!

(*) Just FYI Con in French means jerk (guy). For a woman you would say Conne.

I am working on my column tomorrow, dealing with the inaugural.

Today I published my tribute to President Bush. I did not always agree with him, but he has my respect and admiration.

Most importantly, we truly live in a land where anything is possible. Forget a black man being President. The Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl.

The Cardinals are like the Jews. They wandered from place to place, including wandering in the desert for years until reaching the promised land of Tampa.

Yes today is about MLK, but it is also about the greatest Cardinal of them all, the fallen Pat Tillman.

Wow, Edelweiss…. too many trips to Starbucks today – or just getting in one good last rant before “The One” assumes power?

You penchant for hyperbole is truly amazing. True conservatives don’t defend EVERYTHING Bush did in the past 8 years – not by a long shot.

Let’s look at reality: Everything he did was not destructive to the country.
The Nation is not in a shambles, and what parts of it are, there is equal blame to go around (The Democrats have held both houses of Congress the past two years, or did you forget about that?)

The Iraq & Afghan wars are not illegal (but glad you could take a few minutes from posting at DKos or Huffpo to join us!). Both wars were approved by Congress and were touted (beforehand) by Republicans and Democrats alike.

Amazing how you have already seen the future and consider Obama the ‘best’ president ever – given he hasn’t done anything as President yet…. honestly, you sound like a 4th grader from your post. Do learn to control that ‘tingle’ up your leg. (Your name isn’t Chris Matthews, is it?)

Don’t let the title dissuade you, this is probably Sergio Leones’ most under-rated movie and IMO, Coburns’ best role. Coburn plays an Irish revolutionary who gets caught up in the Mexican revolution. His weapon of choice is dynamite (lots of explosions). The story has action, humor, satire and is ultimately, poignant.

*Besides, the real fireworks takes place every day after 01/20/2009, when the MSM and millions of clockwork oranges regain whatever clarity of mind and vision they have left to see P-BO splashing around in the shallow end of the gene pool.

Historically interesting, yes, but Obama looks to me to potentially be the worst president we have ever had, I was disgusted by his campaign tactics, and the cult stuff is creepy as anything.
But one thing I am not doing is giving up. I want the best for my country. I hope for a Republican congress in 2010 and a Republican president in 2012, and I don’t think hiding under my bed is the way to get there. I’m limited in what I can do, but I hope I do not use that as an excuse to do nothing.

Incidentally, I am entertained by how many other sci-fi fans there are on this site.

I appreciate the vibes, chapoutier. I’m just playin’ with words as a counter to all the hopenchange I’ve had to listen to for the last year or whatever. Enjoy your day tomorrow. I’ll be working out my thoughts on conservatism reloaded (2.0), getting in some Guitar Hero, popping in a horror movie, or doing anything other than watching the festivities. I didn’t watch Bush’s inaugural, either, and his didn’t get anywhere close to the same amount of attention Barack’s will.

Is half of America just not going to work tomorrow? The hoopla is going down like Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. Sorry, Spike, I still think that event was more significant than this one—I mean, One.

Alas, I wish we’d been able to organize some counter-hoange/chope parties for tomorrow. It’d be nice to bounce ideas off each other in a face-to-face setting. Or do we just continue to sit in front of a screen typing, believing that someone might actually take us seriously? If I could get to CPAC, I’d go, but it’s too far for me.
