Obama-fest open thread: What are you doing?
For those of you who have chosen not to partake in the O-fest O-rgy, what are you doing instead?
Tuning in to the Jon and Kate plus 8 marathon? Keeping the TV off completely?
As I noted earlier, I’m diving into the Generational Theft Act of 2009 proposal, which I’m hauling to my daughter’s horse-riding and piano lessons this afternoon.
After Bread & Circuses, someone’s gotta be ready to clean up the crap.
Gird those loins, people.

I’m going into the lab to do some work even if it is supposed to be a day off. The whole world isn’t stopping for this “historic event”, believe it or not.
I am going to be post 200.
I plan to work all day, fend off swooning of my liberal co-workers, and use my background which is identical to Obama’s, except that I am a thinking Conservative to highlight the policies of man standing behind the green curtain pulling the levers of power. I will record the part of the inauguration ceremony from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, to see him swear on the Bible, and to see if he will swear to uphold, defend and protect the Constitution or if he will swear to ignore, offend and correct the Constitution. I want to be able to use his oath to contrast the Constitution with his plans and policies as they solidify from their current Jello-state.
What are you, some sort of commie? By God sir, it’s un-American!
Seriously, what’s the attraction of a Makarov when there are so many fine guns in 9×19?
Maybe I’ll just get BLOTTO tonight and spend the day tomorrow “calling Ralph”
Thanks! Same to you. I found one or two others here with birthdays tomorrow.
Doesn’t that seem like a high percentage for the number of people on a blog like this? Maybe it means something, like one is predisposed to politic interest.
I’m turning 51. Have a vivid memory of sitting on my mother’s lap when she told me that Mr. Johnson had defeated Mr. Goldwater, then painted a verbal picture of a dark cloud like a plaque descending on the country and its future. Thank God she isn’t here to see this debacle.
I still cannot figure out how any sane person claiming to be a conservative can find any reason to defend the last 8 years of George W. Bush presidency. Everything he did was so destructive to our country, and now the nation is in shamble. If his actions were the core values of the Republican Party then hopefully there won’t be any conservative government anytime soon. Bush and his fellow con(*) crooks have raped and pillaged the taxpayer, devalued the dollar, and bankrupted the treasury. His illegal and never ending wars in Afghanistan & Iraq, the latter under false pretenses are total disasters!
Now that America has elected the best and most popular President ever, it is great time that we all work together to restore the lost dignity of this great nation. By electing Obama, Americans finally realized that it was time to save our nation, and take back the govt that belongs to us. Bush’s farewell address was historic, it meant the end and the defeat of sad years of Conservatism and Neoconservatism.
BTW this is Bush’s only success. Good for him!
(*) Just FYI Con in French means jerk (guy). For a woman you would say Conne.
I am working on my column tomorrow, dealing with the inaugural.
Today I published my tribute to President Bush. I did not always agree with him, but he has my respect and admiration.
Most importantly, we truly live in a land where anything is possible. Forget a black man being President. The Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl.
The Cardinals are like the Jews. They wandered from place to place, including wandering in the desert for years until reaching the promised land of Tampa.
Yes today is about MLK, but it is also about the greatest Cardinal of them all, the fallen Pat Tillman.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express

edelweiss: You do know that obama plans to continue or increase the bush policies that created the situations you blasted bush for right???
RIGHT??
oh never mind.
Jrlin & Southpaw – I met James Coburn at the First Taos Film Festival which was I think about two years before he died. I was at a party in his honor & was stuffing my face with hors d’ouvres when he came by & spoke to me. I haven’t seen any where near all of his movies but I always liked him.
I will hit my TiVo and watch a bunch of Star Trek TNG or Monk that I have recorded.
Then I will pray that BHO converts to Americanism and pulls his rounded head out of his Marxist …
No! NO!!! This is an historically historic day, where much history will be put in the history books! Much speechifying will be carved into marble, hope will finally make a comeback and the oceans will stop rising! It would be anti-historical to avoid so much history on such an historic occasion!
Wow, Edelweiss…. too many trips to Starbucks today – or just getting in one good last rant before “The One” assumes power?
You penchant for hyperbole is truly amazing. True conservatives don’t defend EVERYTHING Bush did in the past 8 years – not by a long shot.
Let’s look at reality: Everything he did was not destructive to the country.
The Nation is not in a shambles, and what parts of it are, there is equal blame to go around (The Democrats have held both houses of Congress the past two years, or did you forget about that?)
The Iraq & Afghan wars are not illegal (but glad you could take a few minutes from posting at DKos or Huffpo to join us!). Both wars were approved by Congress and were touted (beforehand) by Republicans and Democrats alike.
Amazing how you have already seen the future and consider Obama the ‘best’ president ever – given he hasn’t done anything as President yet…. honestly, you sound like a 4th grader from your post. Do learn to control that ‘tingle’ up your leg. (Your name isn’t Chris Matthews, is it?)
Hurry off now, Mumsie is calling…..
I just heard that a K-12 school nearby is not only taking the day off, but going to D.C. for the inauguration… from Indiana… the whole school. If I had kids there, you can bet that on Wednesday of this week, I’d be shopping for private schools in the area. It’s one thing to drink the kool-aid yourself; it’s another thing entirely to force it upon others. Gag.
Jon & Kate are way cooler than the Obamanation
I bet eidelweiss gets a tingle in his…..whenever he gazes at Dear Leader.
My new wife and I are celebrating MLKDay with an O’Bambi stew today!
(please click and read my bloggie, if you like…)
Grilled O’Bambi. Nothing like it~!
Her, eidelweiss is quite good looking. Empty headed but good looking.
She is the model for liberal barbie.
Drinking heavily and avoiding any MSM. Coronations are not my style.
(*) Just FYI the word Edelweiss comes from German edel (meaning noble) and weiß (meaning white).
Noble – White…. You’re not promoting white supremacy, are you???? Mmmm….I think you’re name is racist….
I’ll play Command and Conquer and lead a nation that still offers liberty to its people to victory over the tyrannical despots.
I’ll be playing as Russia…
If this isn’t parody then someone’s intellectual development ceased at the Teen Beat years. (Popular = good.)
“She is the model for liberal barbie.”
Judging by her giddiness over Obama, (‘Now that America has elected the best and most popular President ever’) it would seem that she’s at an age where she still plays with Barbie….
Me too I’m taking the day off. I live in Potomac (Suburban Maryland) and with my friends we will be going to DC tomorrow.
Erratum: Here is the correct link of my previous msg.
Okay time to go home!
Sorry chap, ain’t gonna happen.
Hope isn’t the only thing that floats, Chap.
Plans for Tuesday:
Mailing the DMV auto registration renewal check that I couldn’t mail on Monday because the Post Office took a vacation on Marty King day.
Listening to Rush cover the Obamauration with his characteristically irreverent good humor.
Avoiding network news like the plague.
Jon & Kate Plus 8 leaves me very conflicted. I love watching the kids. Kate, on the other hand…
I think the “hopey fever” I had over the weekend is coming back. I spent most of the weekend in bed on flu meds.
babbledabble, if you like James Coburn, then I highly recommend “Duck, You Sucker”. Don’t let the title dissuade you, this is probably Sergio Leones’ most under-rated movie and IMO, Coburns’ best role. Coburn plays an Irish revolutionary who gets caught up in the Mexican revolution. His weapon of choice is dynamite (lots of explosions). The story has action, humor, satire and is ultimately, poignant.
We’re watching the weather down here in Hampton Roads area. Looks like snow. I thought I left that back in Fairfax County. Oh, well. Got a g-daughter’s birthday tomorrow but it looks like that is on hold. I may not even make it to work, which means hitting our tape library. Hopefully, I can make it to work and back home again. The heck with the inauguration. We’re got weather worries down here.
What am I going to do? I recorded Star Trek Enterprise earlier today so I may watch/listen to those two episodes while taking Photoshop CS3 Extended lessons.
Like Rush and Michelle, I will be doing my best to ignore the coronation of that thug from Chicago.
House work. Cooking. Cleaning. Laundry. Kid watching. Puppy watching.
Stay-at-home Dad stuff.

If you get a good Makarov–East German, for example–they’re fun to fire. It also had the advantage of being an inexpensive although usually serviceable pistol.
Besides, what better than a Warsaw Pact weapon with a socialist coming on board?
I have declared my home and surroundings an O-free zone. I have banned watching news coverage, reading newspapers, etc. I have installed filters on e-mail, RSS feeds, etc that smack of anything to do with O. I made an exception for my dear Michelle.
Instead, I go for walks, listen to music, and generally try to tune out what is happening in the world these days… it’s too depressing.

I’ll be drinking… heavily.
Probably the same thing I’ll be doing every day between now and the Congressional Mid-term election!
Unplugging my television for the day.
I’m taking the day off, drinking Mt. Dew, watching my 24 DVD box set, listening to Rush Limbaugh and reading my new Ann Coulter book.
Going to work, for the money I earn on this day will be worth far more than the money I earn four years from this date.
Going to hike in the woods. No TV sets out there.
I’ll be in class all day, thank goodness. At the specific inaguaral time, I will be knee deep in the Brahms Requiem as well as some other fine music. There are no TV’s in the choral room, and our program director is an anomoly in the arts- he is a conservative!
I will, however, be wearing my “Don’t blame me, I voted for McCain” Tshirt under my hoodie for my own sake. As my campus is a very urban one, I have no desire to rile up the very sizeable opposition. They were positively obnoxious in class on the day after the election, and while I don’t back down from an argument, I just want to go to class and get through the day, KWIM? I have the next 4 years to duke it out over our Idiot in Chief.
Someone’s a little irritable.
Did you spill your sippy cup?
I just saw the visage of Obama in a tortilla!
Ebay, or the TXGator family vault????
There will be more people there than the famouls MLK civil rights march, the million man march and the largest Vietnam protest march…combined.
It’s just amazing to see this country filled with so much hope again.
Me too. I’ll be in an airplane heading for a warm vacation, away from Minnesota for a week. They’d better not have the inauguration on the airplane TV!! I will be playing “Crazy 8″ with my grandson. Or “Go to The Dump”. Seems appropriate, don’t you think?
My company (on the left coast) is holding an “inauguration potluck” so we can all eat and koombaya together as we watch Obama sworn in. So I think I’ll “miss my bus” on the way to work.
Otherwise, I have a lot of great shows on the DVR and On Demand to catch up on – I’m getting up to speed with season 2 of Big Love before I watch last night’s premiere episode.
Also reading a GREAT book – “Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson. Part history/part suspense, excellent! I’m almost done, so maybe I’ll wrap that up tonight and tomorrow.
Ebay would be good, although I suggest building a shrine and charging admission.
I’m going to be working….but they have the gall to air the circus on company TV. I will make sure I don’t see a second of it.
Some people have to work. Unfortunately, I have to work about a block from the Capitol building. I have a parking place (almost)guaranteed about a quarter mile from my office. Getting in and out of DC should be an adventure. I haven’t had to cross enemy lines since the early 70s. I plan to leave DC about 7:30 am and will hopefully be sound asleep during the ceremony. If anything happens, it will be broadcast endlessly for months to come.
I’m going to do whatever takes me away from the boob tube. I can’t believe how many times a day I have to change the channel because O comes on, and it’ll even worse tomorrow as the entire world joins in on this orge of socialism.
I am taking my wife the Mayo Clinic for an appointment with her oncologist. Hell of a lot more important than BHO.
The TV’s off. I’m working tomorrow.
(The TV has to be off, BTW, I’ve not installed satellite or cable or gotten an over-the-air signal for almost a year.)
I’d be more interested in the College Marching Band competition than an Obama inauguration, anyway.
Thanks for asking
Anyone see Sarah Palin’s interview live with Glen Beck on his new FOX show?
I love Sarah.
I refuse to waste any of my precious time left in this life on such absolute claptrap.
We will be doing anything but watching TV tomorrow. I am reading that many of the public schools are going to be making the children watch the circus! As for my home schooled one and I, we might pull the federalist papers out… and pick on to read. She’s only 8, but I think she is ready. After all, she is the only 8 year old I know that could identify all the candidates running over 18 months ago, and calls Barney Frank a jerk every time she sees him on TV or hears his voice on radio. If she is going to get indoctrinated I would rather it be me who performs the indoctrination!
Yeah, she is a bit much sometimes, but you have to admire her. I would have gone insane the first 2 months.

As a conservative you won’t find me defending a collectivist.
No, it meant the end of “compassionate conservativism.” Which was really collectivism cross-bred with a pro military policy.
Now we get to enjoy full-blown collectivism with a weak national defense policy.
I could go off on the rest of your stupidities but why bother arguing with an automaton of the collective?
What will I be doing? Well, during the actual oath, I should be dropping my 7th graders off at lunch. I’m not taking any time out of my day to watch, as I’m teaching genetics and we’re doing Punnett Squares. If it’s a snow day and I’m home, hubby and I plan to have a 24 marathon with our new box set. Do I plan to watch? No way.
SoGood2BeMe for Secretary of Education.
I will be working on the roses. Get the beds nice and clean, weed free and then pull off all remaining leaves, cut off dead and stunted growth and get ready to trim to size and shape.
Then I add a LIBERAL amount of steer manure, work it into the soil and cover it with coco shell mulch to keep out the weeds that LIBERAL amount of steer manure would propagate. That also keeps the smell down from that LIBERAL amount of steer manure.
I am hoping Rush and Hannity are on tomorrow and not preempted by the zoo in DC. If not I’ll hook up the MP3 player to the outside stereo and play a funeral dirge and maybe Johnny Horton/Marty Robbins tunes.
I imagine it will be a day or two before regularly scheduled broadcasts return.
That is a obvious liberal remark. Conservatives don’t hope we make it happen.
Since we seem to be suffering from global warming in Southern California I have decided to go sailing tomorrow. No TV or radio, just fresh air and sunshine…
Abandon hope all ye who turn on the TV tomorrow.
Thank you, President Bush, for keeping our country safe since 9-11.
God help us all.
Tomorrow FamilyWomen and I are designing a program to triple our net income. The hell with the dem. We’ll make it regardless of the Obama administrations roadblocks.
I spent the afternoon at the gun shop stocking up on ammo.
I seem to recall Rush saying that he was going to carry some of it live, which will give me a chance to take care of a few outdoor chores during the day tomorrow.
If you people are not going to appreciate my hope vibes, well… then I just may take them and go home.
Pig or chicken SH** is much more odorous, and is better when used in the same context as liberal.
*I’ll be on the road all day as usual, looking out over the beautiful Tennessee countryside and listening to Rush and other favorites.
*The watching of P-BO isn’t nearly as bad as the listening; It’s not unlike a peptalk a McDonald’s manager would give to employees; No thanks.
*Besides, the real fireworks takes place every day after 01/20/2009, when the MSM and millions of clockwork oranges regain whatever clarity of mind and vision they have left to see P-BO splashing around in the shallow end of the gene pool.
Your strings need tuning chap.
I think I have to wash my hair or something.
It may be a good day to clip your toenails or count the number of shingles on the roof.
Promise? That’s “hope” I can get behind…
Is Ishtar on?
Maybe I’ll sort out my shoe rack tomorrow. I hear they’re giving free trips to Switzerland for old tossed shoes.
Amen brother!
I have a full-time job. Besides, I’ve already completed my inauguration celebrations, which included joining the NRA and sending some money to CAGW.
Historically interesting, yes, but Obama looks to me to potentially be the worst president we have ever had, I was disgusted by his campaign tactics, and the cult stuff is creepy as anything.
But one thing I am not doing is giving up. I want the best for my country. I hope for a Republican congress in 2010 and a Republican president in 2012, and I don’t think hiding under my bed is the way to get there. I’m limited in what I can do, but I hope I do not use that as an excuse to do nothing.
Incidentally, I am entertained by how many other sci-fi fans there are on this site.
There are some reruns of “Mr. Peepers” starred Wally Cox.
I’m kinda ticked off, this is the first MLK holiday I didn’t get scheduled to work. I could have used the double-and-a-half pay. What is bound to be hilarious is the koolaid drinkers lovefest that is scheduled to happen tommorow at the college I work at.
I should have recorded the “Yule Log” and watched 15 hours of that. Thankfully I work in a steel bunker that gets no tv/radio.
Damn strait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Don’t give up, don’t ever give up” Jimmy V
Working.
When not working, taking down the Christmas tree that I left up for just this occasion.
And when I’m done with that, my callouses need a trim.
Yes, right after Gigli.
I’m clinging to my religion, and weapons.
One of my daughters teaches at a local university. Several of her students ask her if they could have the day to watch the coronation. She told them that they would receive an F for the day.
I’m soooo proud of her.
Just don’t have the weapon handy for the love fest, we don’t you testing it on yourself!
“Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?”
Ahhhhh, preview kid!!!!!
We don’t want you testing it on yourself!

I appreciate the vibes, chapoutier. I’m just playin’ with words as a counter to all the hopenchange I’ve had to listen to for the last year or whatever. Enjoy your day tomorrow. I’ll be working out my thoughts on conservatism reloaded (2.0), getting in some Guitar Hero, popping in a horror movie, or doing anything other than watching the festivities. I didn’t watch Bush’s inaugural, either, and his didn’t get anywhere close to the same amount of attention Barack’s will.
Is half of America just not going to work tomorrow? The hoopla is going down like Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. Sorry, Spike, I still think that event was more significant than this one—I mean, One.
Alas, I wish we’d been able to organize some counter-hoange/chope parties for tomorrow. It’d be nice to bounce ideas off each other in a face-to-face setting. Or do we just continue to sit in front of a screen typing, believing that someone might actually take us seriously? If I could get to CPAC, I’d go, but it’s too far for me.
Ehhh…I probably won’t watch it, certainly not live (work).
In all honesty, they could do to tone things down an eensy bit.
Rats!!!
Driving my truck. Hey, food still has to get delivered. I don’t see the chosen one multiplying bread and fish for the masses.
Sadly, XM will have something like 17 channels dedicated to the festivities. Tomorrow may be a day for books on c.d. only.
You keep inspiring hope in me that you’re a closet conservative.
Going to work lik I do any other day.
Lord knows I’m going to need the money to pay for the tax increase …

I’d rather pluck out my eye’s and cut off my ears then watch or hear anything Odopey. 80 degrees here, working on a tan is a great option to have.
I’m sure someone’ll have a TV on wherever you’re at.
