Left early this AM for the VA hospital to get a bridge put in. 2 hours there, 3 hours in the chair, 2 hours back. At the moment I am sipping some 15 year old single malt and trying to forget about about BLACK TUESDAY. The death of the American dream.

The wife and I went to see Valkyrie. We drove there and back with the radio off. We were the only two in the theater. What a nice peaceful day. And I still love America!

Thanks! Same to you. I found one or two others here with birthdays tomorrow.
Doesn’t that seem like a high percentage for the number of people on a blog like this? Maybe it means something, like one is predisposed to politic interest.
I’m turning 51. Have a vivid memory of sitting on my mother’s lap when she told me that Mr. Johnson had defeated Mr. Goldwater, then painted a verbal picture of a dark cloud like a plaque descending on the country and its future. Thank God she isn’t here to see this debacle.

Happy birthday to us, eh? Interesting observation you make about our political proclivity and having January 20 as our natal day. And I’m just one year older than you, dear heart.

I listened to a tad of the inauguration on Rush Limbaugh. Being at work, I’m not glued to my headphones, but have gotten enough of the gist of the ceremony so that I can say I was “there” but without vomiting. However, I’m still trying to stop the bleeding from my ears from listening to that pseudo-poet’s sophomoric poem. Gads, my kids could write that unfocused, non-metered drivel when they were in 5th grade. A Hallmark card has more substance and artistry. Bleh.
