About that race-based benediction: “When white will embrace what is right”
Juan Williams got emotional over Rev. Joseph Lowery’s impassioned benediction, and marveled over the former NAACP head’s personal journey from ’60s civil rights leader to Obama benediction leader.
No question, Rev. Lowery has led a remarkable life.
But the benediction’s eloquence was marred by glib racialism.
Lowery got big cheers when he weaved in a weird prayer rap expressing his hope for a future in which the “brown would stick around,” the “yellow would be mellow,” the “red man would get ahead, man,” and the “white would embrace the right.”
The “white would embrace the right?”
Who wrote that line? Jeremiah Wright? And what would Obama’s grandparents and mother have to say?
Like I said last night: Feel the post-racialism!

Not a problem with me, as Obama never served in the military and as President is a civilian. Reagan and the Bushes returned salutes, because they had been service members. They had no need to but did as one service person to another.
Obama not returning a salute is not a sign of disrespect.
OT- Don’t know about the other services, but it was in my handy “Blue Jackets Manual”.
A sailor ordered confined to the brig or other confinement is not permitted to offer the salute, because an officer will return the salute, and a confined sailor is not entitled to receive even a returned salute.
Sort of OT.
Oh, and Navy people aren’t covered in doors, except for certain ceremonial occasions, and sailors do not salute uncovered, so sailors do not usually salute indoors.
And, if one enters the enlisted or petty officers club and forgets to rmeove his cover, he has to buy a round of beer for all present.

After listening to Lowery again, I will retract part of what I said earlier. Sounds like he probably said “get,” not “give.” I still don’t like being told that I need/have to give back. Generosity shouldn’t be mandated.
The depths of your collective denial about Bush’s unpopularity is quite a spectacle! He left office one of the most disliked presidents since such statistics went on record. Ever since Katrina — long before the debates, the primaries, the election — it was all but guaranteed our next president would be a Democrat.
The “obvious” here is that what is offensive to you is apparently not so for the majority of Americans, and vice-versa. This is really all you need to know.
Race baiting is a multi-billion dollar business and it’s reserved for blacks. This country is 70% white. Who in the hell does he think elected Obama? Has anyone ever heard one of these guys mention the opportunities that have been given to blacks in this country?
As long as guilt-ridden whitey continues to fill the coffers, guys like him, Wright, Jackson and Sharpton will earn a good living. The irony is that guys like him are the ones who perpetuate race as an issue and alienate whites, and other ethnic groups, who really want to get past it.

Guys, the GOP has been voted out of power. Period. There is very little that can be done till 2010. If we try to filibuster judges the nuclear option will be used.
Its the DNC’s show for now. And there are radicals in control of ever major congressional body and committee. There is now a radical leftist in the white house.
There will be long and painfull investigations into the bush years. There will be alot of extreme liberal agendas passed. They will blame everything on bush. All we can do is scream loud enough to try, and I mean TRY to be heard even a little bit.
We have NO effective representation in Washington DC. NONE. This will not change until at least 2010. The only way we will change this is to start now and start hammering back and hammer hard.

I realize that electing a President who happens to be black is noteworthy and of great historical significance. However, he is not the “usual” black that I encounter in my daily life. He speaks perfect English, has a great education, is married and living with the mother of his children, dresses in socially acceptable clothing, doesn’t wear a baseball cap tilted in the wrong direction, and looks you in the eye when he speaks.
HIs blackness is not the big thing as all the cheering crowds of blacks profess. It boils down to command of the language, education, and character. Maybe blacks will get the point rather than jump up and down gleefully simply because he is black, half black that is.
When is the real vision of Martin Luther King ever going to be lived? That we would not judge on color but on character?? What does it take?? In his sophomoric, racist poem, wherein he wished, “. . . white people will do what is right,” the man delivered a monumental, unwarranted, and egregious insult to all Americans. In particular, I’m thinking of the 600,000 men, mostly white, who died in the great Civil War so that the good Reverend could get up at the podium today and heap scorn on those of us not yet persuaded that we’re all guilty wretches. Consider Chris Mathews, of the Obama cable network, who said today, while apparently overcome by the rhetoric of the One that. . . “This is not partisan, but there is JFK and FDR and maybe, Barrack Obama.” Not partisan? Chris, who gets “shivers running up and down his legs” from listening to the Anointed, not partisan? I’ll retire to Bedlam.

In case anyone only watches the MSM, you might not know that Lowery in 1979 traveled to Lybia where he proudly presented Qadafi with the “Martin Luther King Medal of Freedom”. When Qadafi only a few years later arranged the bombing of a disco in Berlin and killed an African-American soldier who was there, Lowery had nothing to say. Qadafi was and is Lowery’s idol. Lowery also traveled to Lebanon where he and Walter Fauntroy called for the US to have an arms embargo against Israel. Lowery was so fanatically antiIsrael that Lowery actually accused Jimmy Carter of being a slave to “The Jewish Lobby”. Lowery commented that he thought Jews had too much influence in America. All of these quotes and photos are readily available but of course CNN would not ever mention any of it. CNN never tires of chastising Rick Warren, who is about the most decent man anyone could ever meet. But not a peep from Rick Sanchez or Christine Amanpour about Lowery’s antiSemitism.

In an ironic note, when I woke up this morning, the Gary Cooper blockbuster “The Fountainhead” (yes, of Ayn Rand fame) was on AMC.
