Inauguration global warming temperature watch
Sam Kazman at OpenMarket.org is monitoring the thermometer:
When President Bush leaves office today, will the capital be warmer or colder than when he was sworn in eight years ago?
It’s not scientifically meaningful, but it is interesting.
Bush has been heavily criticized for doing precious little to curb our emissions of carbon dioxide. During his eight years in office, atmospheric CO2 levels climbed by over four percent.
So what did Bush’s dilly-dallying produce in terms of deadly global warming? The temperature at noon in Washington DC will give us one factoid. It’s a scientifically meaningless factoid, since the local temperature on any one day, let alone any one hour, tells us nothing about long-term temperature trends, but it’s heavy in symbolism.
When Bush was first sworn in, in 2001, the temperature at noon in DC was 36 degrees F. What will it be today, when he leaves office? Will the capital be warmer or colder than when he took office eight years ago?
Don’t be surprised if it’s colder. Today’s forecast is for relatively low temperatures. More importantly, despite steady increases in atmospheric CO2, and despite everything you’ve heard about climate catastrophe, there’s been no warming for about the last decade, and the planet has actually cooled over the last three years.

So all those “climate change deniers” were right all along.
It’s snowing here in Fort Mill, South Carolina! I’m not kidding…. between 3-5″ so far today.
It’s pretty dang cold in SC today, I know that.
Lucky Dog. I’m a few miles south of Greenville and I haven’t seen a single flake.
We got a dusting down here in Columbia, which was enough to shut down the schools and sell out all the bread and gas.
I am of 2 minds on global warming crap.
1/ I know its a myth, and a huge waste of money to even try to fix but…
2/ Its a good excuse to clean up some of the excess of industry..
So yes we should be cleaner, but no we shouldn’t bankrupt the country or industry to do it. The nobel commitee should be b!tch slaped for giving gore that prize.
Let’s not forget that the ice levels are back to where they were in 1979.
How’s this turn into a South Carolina Thread?
Snowing in Florence too.
Just because Maine and Illinois (Big Black River Maine hitting -50ºF) broke all time state wide records for cold last week, or New Orleans had a freak 7 inch snow storm in December, well, remember the scene from al-Ghour’s favorite movie “The Day After Tomorrow”, where global warming somehow turns the entire planet into a block of ice.
Well, there you go.
I have never been to South Carolina, but I changed planes once on a Piedmont flight returning to Orlando from New Jersey at Charlotte.
And, IIRC, there was snow on the ground in Charlotte.
And growing.
Netfest, backwoods…right here with you in Lake Wylie, SC…watching it snow. There is a God.
SC…where true conservatives live.
High today of 18 degrees. It’s so warm compared to the past 10 days, pleople are going to picnic.
OBTW, kudos to Fairbanks, Alaska. SWEET!!

They’ll push through bills in congress until they exhaust the global warming “crisis”. Then start on new bills to thwart the new global cooling “crisis”. This has been going on for 70 years. They bank on new generations that are ignorant of the past to moan, “OMG. Everyone panic!”
High of 77* here in Gilbert, what was that in Maine again?
Who says Fox News is biased ?? Shep Smith just got a chill moment ala Chris Matthews. :: ROLLEYES ::
If Gore had his way, there would be caveman SUVs to explain the end of the ice age 18000 years ago. We’ve been globally warming (and CO2 rising) ever since. The dirty little secret is that atmospheric CO2 rises with temperature, regardless of what we little Earthlings burn or don’t burn (you see the same effect in a carbonated soda). The alternative to warming is cooling. Once we start the cooling, historically temperatures crash a lot faster than the gradual warming periods. I’d much rather we continue warming than to see 1000 foot ice sheets over Detroit and Chicago.
Might as well get the title right.
Like Lindsay Graham?
It’s gonna be a cold day in Hell when Obama takes the oath of office….
No, like Jim DeMint. Graham is an error we’re trying to correct.
I wrote him a letter and told him he was an embarrassment to the state. I wonder if I’m on the “list” now
It is currently 9ºF at Houlton and Caribou in Maine. Much warmer than last week.
Mt Washington, NH is 0º, but it is usually colder at 1910 meters. (6300 feet). Hence, they tend to put ski resorts near mountains. Or maybe, it is because one needs a slope for people to ski downhill.
1910 meters is, of course, puny by Texas standards, home of the largest mountain East of the Rockies, Guadelupe Peak. 2657 meters (8717 feet).
Of course, that is puny by California standards, but we don’t have a state income tax, a state lege that is two thirds Demonrat, nor two lib Dem senators
Up to 27ºF with a 14ºF wind-chill in DC now.
NY – where trur conservatives are from. (They don’t live there, they’re FROM there.)
trur = true
One of the big fears here is that many from the blue states will move to our relative paradise and then start voting in the libs that ruined their former states.
So why did they just re-elect Lindsey Gramnesty…the number one RINO in Congress.
When I was in Fairbanks a month ago visiting family it was -35 for a high the whole week and -55 to -60 for a low that week.
You mean like Florida – once a proud Red state now a disgusting Blue state? Yeah, thanks NY transplants.
Typical liberal, projection, who’s the flat earther? The Penguin is.
It’s 16 degrees here in Indianapolis, but with a windchill of 6.
You know, though, I’ll take that over the windchill of -19 we had last week. It supposed to get above freezing later the week – heat wave!!
I’m visiting friends in NC in a couple weeks and I’d hoped it be warmer…sounds like that might not be the case.
He doesn’t hold a candle to the Democrat in all but Caucus crones, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, the Senators from the cold and lonely state of Maine.
I’m about 100 miles south of DC and its 22 outside with a high projected of 29. Thank God for global warming! How cold would it be otherwise?
Colorado used to be pretty ok, from what I understand, even with the hippy college town of Boulder, and those fleeing California are starting to change it. Already happening in Arizona as well.
And “Live Free or Die” New Hampshire is being ruined by the Mass-holes who fled that state because of high taxes, high crime and economic stagnation, but want to impose the same policies in the Granite State and somehow expect it to be different.
I agree. CO2 is not dirty, therefore it should not be targeted.
CO2 is good-it propels by grandsons rockets. Global Warming alarmist are anti-grandsons!
So how’s Tennessee? It’s one of the few left on my list.
It will be 70 today and tomorrow here in Colorado – yeah!
The Disciples of Globull Warming may consider that a bad sign, but we frequently get a warm spell in winter here and it’s a nice change from the below zero stuff we had a few weeks ago.
So this really is snow I’m seeing outside? It’s not some form of fallout? Well that’s a relief.
Myrtle Beach here. Flurries, nothing sticking.
I had no idea there were so many of my fellow South Carolinians here on MM.
And that comment on Lindsey… ow, damn. Touche’. I voted against that prissy imbecile twice last year, once in the primary and once in the election itself. I figured in November if we were going to have a Dippycrat in the Senate he might as well have the “D” after his name. My wife thought I was nuts. Now I say “I told you so” after every brown-nosing Lindsey gives to the lefties.
Last week it was -9 and -7 at my house in Northern Connecticut. Some global warming.
Where was the freezing rain when we needed it?
*cough*cough*
Sorry, guys. I never meant to hurt anyone.
(turns blue from holding it in)
#6 sonofdy- That bloated pig won that prize at the expense of someone that actually deserved it- Irena Sendler. An amazing woman who helped to shelter Jews during the Holocaust.
#18 battleaxe- I wouldn’t mind if Chicago and Detroit were buried under 1000 ft. sheets of ice.
BTW how bout those 600 private jets that flew to DC today. Green inauguration??!!??
Unseasonably warm in California, ironic in light of the toughest emissions/pollution control legislation in the union.
We’ve been setting record highs all week.
For fun one night, I drove into South Carolina last year when I was on a business trip to Charlotte….
Did you see that also???? I had flashbacks of Bill and Monica in the Oval office.
And then it could be a blizzard on Thursday…
Well, the height is a little off but the weight seems to be right.
A professor at Oxford predicted the earth was about to enter a cooling period due to a reduction in solar activity (sun spots? solar flares?). He predicted a mini-ice age…so I hope he’s not completely correct!!! I’ll have to retire to Panama. But the good news is you can “buy” the equivalent of their green card by investing just $40k in real estate. Plus, over the next 15 years or so I’m bound to learn enough Spanish here in DC to allow me to get by just fine in Panama.
