The commentariat will say it was the “uhs” and “you knows” that killed Caroline Kennedy’s bid for Hillary’s Senate seat.
The halting media appearances certainly didn’t help. But ultimately, it was the regal sense of entitlement that done her in.
Dynastic expectations coupled with lack of public disclosure and questionable work ethics do not sit well with the American public.
Fare the well, Queen Caroline. Or, as us serfs like to put it: DLTDHYOTWO*!

Update: Via Allahpundit, the Associated Press reports late tonight that Caroline still wants in!
A person familiar with Caroline Kennedy’s decision says she has renewed her determination to win appointment to the U.S. Senate seat once held by her slain uncle, Sen. Bobby Kennedy.
The source says that after her surviving uncle, Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, suffered a seizure on Inauguration Day, Caroline Kennedy had misgivings about taking on the new job.
The source spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak for Kennedy. Earlier in the day, The New York Times and New York Post reported that Kennedy had ended her monthlong bid to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was confirmed as secretary of state.
Gov. David Paterson has said he hopes to make the appointment by this weekend.
Awkwardness. Intrigue. Grab the popcorn. It ain’t over yet.

I met Caroline down in Destin many, many years ago. She was very kind and personable. However, as a Reagan Conservative, I would never vote for her. Nevertheless, to me, she was just a regular person and good company.
Fox News said she dropped out for “personal reasons.” I guess if your qualifications are questioned and other than having the name Kennedy no other redeeming factor is found – that can go as “personal reasons.”
If this were true, President McCain would have been given the oath of office yesterday.

Caroline Kennedy’s withdrawal clears the way for Prince Andrew. At least Prince Andrew maladministered a cabinet department and was partially responsible for the mortgage meltdown. This makes him far more qualified than Ms. Kennedy.

How long did Her Thighness live in New York? A week before she started running for the Senate?
I was born there, and educated through 8th grade at St. Martin of Tours in Amityville.
For a Senator’s pay, and membership in he Senate gym, I’ll quit my job in the ever cyclical Texas oilfield and return to serve my new constituents in New York.
Somehow, even if he has that computer software for the blind and was browsing MM’s site, I don’t think Patterson would pick a guy who voted for Reagan, Bush, Dole, Bush, and even John McCain, but the offer stands.
I do still get e-mail from Her Thighness, BJ and even Hill’s Mom because I sent an e-mail about Obama fraud at the Texas caucus. BTW, I have stories to tell, but they had a well organized program. I was about the only white guy who didn’t leave when they announced Obama had won the primaries in Texas and Ohio by over 10%. (Don’t ask me how Texas had a primary and a caucus. BTW, I chose the Dem primary because McCain had it locked up before Texas, and it wasn’t just Rush Limbaugh, it was actually choosing the lesser of two evils, which I got to do again in November).

Geez, as a former upstate New Yorker, I thought her highness was a terrible choice. It must have been eye-opening for some to find out that with all that Ivy League education her trust fund and Uncle Teddy could buy, poor Caroline didn’t quite have that “stage presence.” I’m sure somewhere, Sarah Palin is laughing her butt off.
It is really time for the Kennedys to take the hint and let the Cuomos take over. That way, we’ll get a lot of miliage out of Mario Cuomo’s assurances that Obummer is, indeed, a moderate!
It’s always a hoot when New Yorkers never learn that Dems aren’t as good at economics as they think. Wasn’t it former governor Cuomo that encouraged foreign business competition in the state of New York and also decided that taxing business some more couldn’t hurt? That thump that my mom heard in the ’80’s was her job leaving and businesses leaving or going out of business.

As a New Yorker I am very dissapointed. Whoever our Gov.(who inherited his seat) picks is still going to be a hard-core lefty. I would MUCH rather have had Kennedy who was just awful and the public did not like her at all. She woudl have been the Dem’s incumbent pick to continue and would have been easy pickins for a Republican whose party in this state is lacluster at best. The RNC spends no $$ in NY believing it is a waist of resources. BIG MISTAKE. They need to get out the vote, educate and to get some nominees with some recognition.
Now, with Kennedy out, we’ll get some Lib knowone has ever heard of and will be a much easier ticket for the Dem’s when the seat comes up for re-election.
Rooting for Kennedy’s demise was a huge mistake. Should have waited until she was seated, then attack her. She would have easily crumbled. Now that seat will be VERY difficult for the Republicans to recapture.

Sorry to correct you, but the Not so good ship Kennedy was an Oldsmobile (I think a 1967 Delta). Used to own a 1968 which looks very similar. Wanted to put a sign on the back saying, “Ted Kennedy thinks this car floats”.
I read that Paterson may offer the seat to Andrew Cuomo. That would not be good. He would be tough to beat when he actually runs for the seat as an incumbent. I’m rootin’ for the “Nanny”.

Someone earlier said “She’ll get Uncle Ted’s seat.” They have meant it in jest, but in the world of family political dynasties, it is really not much of a stretch. The arrogance of it all is what gets me, and it does not matter what party does it. I was living in Alaska when Frank Murkowski chose his daughter to replace him in the senate. For reasons like that I have made it a personal choice to NEVER vote for the children or family of politicians. And as conservative as I am, for that reason, down the road, Jeb Bush will never get the presidency with my vote.
Her “personal reason” must’ve been that she would actually have to “work” in this position…something she obviously hasn’t been used to all her life.
Inheriting all those millions, why work at all?

Review: Kennedy expresses interest and in taken seriously because of her name and previous civic involvement. Some raise questions about her qualifications and experience. She does some interviews and comes off with a Palinesque inability to discuss issues. Interest in her quickly dissipates.
Summary: the system worked fine. We did not get an unqualified Senator. Democrats did something right.
