It will be interesting to see how the Dutch people react to this. They seem to be awakening to the threat of radical Islam. This could well be a rallying point and a win in court by Wilders could have a salutory impact on the nation as a whole.
Well, you have to agree with the Muslim’s on this one. The only way you can connect Islam with terrorism is by looking at the facts. Outside of the facts there is no connection.
I saw the movie last spring. Amazing that truth is considered hate now.

Geert Wilders may be the Michael Moore of Holland as I know nothing of his work. However, he does have the right to express his opinion. Muslims have the right to be infuriated. That is their right. BUT THAT IS ALL MUSLIMS HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO.

The movie is called ” Fitna ” mostly news footage of muslim terrorists.

I honestly cannot believe that no one there is bothered by a filmmaker being prosecuted over a film he made.

try to silence those who speak it.
Isn’t this why the O wants a Civilian Service Force (or something like that) as strong and well funded as our military? Then he can enforce the fairness doctrine and make sure no one says anything that isn’t PC. Maybe they will even come into your house to make sure you don’t have any opposing propaganda.

I don’t see anything wrong with what he said… but that’s just me.

I’d say he went a bit far in stating that no more Muslims should be allowed into his country, or that the Koran is a facist book that should be “forbidden”; not long ago, I read some posts on a different debate thread by someone who said essentially the same thing about the Bible (I’m a churchgoing Catholic, so we had a few words).
Still, if he is not calling for a “Final Solution” for Muslims in his country, or for any kind of violence against them, it should still be protected speech (he can say that the Koran should be “forbidden” all he wants as long as he doesn’t try to actually have it banned or burned).
The sign should read murder, not kill. Get it right you moon god worshiping POS.

I’ve watched this play out on a number of other blogs and it’s danged scary.
Can anyone tell me if a U.S. citizen would or would not be arrested for the same thing while traveling in Europe if they got mouthy? If so, perhaps we should all rethink any future travel plans.
Flyoverman – I’ve said for years that 99% of old Europe’s best ended up on our shores over the last three centuries.
It takes someone with REAL initative to leave their home and travel thousands of miles with no guarantee of success. That’s what made America. That spirit is also needed to keep it.

I don’t understand why noone in these countries with hate speech laws (Canada, EU, Aussie, etc) files a complaint against the koran and it’s hate preaching imams. As MP Wilder pointed out, the book is full of hate speech and the Friday sermans are nothing more than instigation to riot sessions.
File a complaint with the hate speech police and let islam defend itself.
But our “Leaders” are driving a stake in that spirit with their bailouts and ’stimulus packages’ and ‘economic equality’. Aargh!

Americans take some freedoms more seriously than western Europe. Most European countries have laws against NAZI parties, but they are legal here. I wish Europeans would see that as a reason there are more Nazi sympathizers in Europe than here.
That said, this guy did a little more than “criticize Islam”. He engaged in what we would call “hate speech”.

Oh, the audacity. Now the Dutch think it so “humanitarian” to prosecute someone for speaking up against the “religion of peace?” I know they smoke a lot of weed down there in good ole Amsterdam but there’s got to be some common sense penetrating through the “haze” so to speak.
I’m not really surprised about the Dutch treatment of this gentleman. They’re feel-good socialists who are pacifist by nature. They have the same plague that is striking many other European countries which is unfettered immigration from the Middle East and Africa.
I had the “privilege” (if you can call it that) of visiting Amsterdam in the ’90’s. I wanted to see where I came from since 1/4 of my ancestry is Dutch all the way back to the Dutch who settled New Amsterdam (that’s New York to you non-New Yorkers). What I found is that while the Dutch are friendly and open people, they’re a bit naive about not only human nature but human weakness. For example, when the Dutch legalized pot (and let numerous “coffee shops” open up) they thought a little vice wouldn’t be bad. The same holds true for prostitution. The problems started when organized crime made inroads into both “industries.”
The Dutch are slowly starting to wake up to the “real world” but not soon enough. They, like many Europeans, think their socialist “tolerance” is some kind of special and something that works. The Europeans are some of the biggest hypocrites (besides liberals here) that I’ve ever met. They preach tolerance for the poor, misunderstood Muslims but heaven forbid any criticism should happen.
Oddly enougth I suspct you could become very rich with Saudi money by producing a violently Anti-Semetic film and it would be shown in theaters all over the world with no problems.
There cannot be double standards in laws, oh wait there already are.
This situation sounds like the Dutch government is trying to appease the Muslims out of cowardice and fear. Geert Wilder is the sacrificial lamb. Will our country be far behind? Are we already there?
