Dude. This makes no sense. If there is no God, there is no Heaven or Hell. You need to reconcile that with your concern of whether or not you’ll end up in Hell. That’s great that your parents don’t believe you’ll go to Hell. Do you honestly think they would tell you otherwise? You’re their son. My brother is gay and I can assure you that none of our conversations are about him going to Hell.
I don’t know your parents. Why would I conclude such a thing? Nevermind the fact that I don’t have the last say in these matters. What you are looking for none of us can provide. Those assurances come from not your fellow human beings but from God.
You are looking for Christians that tell you what you want to hear. I don’t get to pick and choose who goes to the fictious place called Hell. Who knows we may have it all wrong but that’s why it’s called having faith and not something else.

You are missing my point entirely. Please go back and read this entire exchange (if you have the time or care). The whole reason this issue even came up was because I got annoyed (once again) about the notions that atheists are de facto evil / immoral / etc. From there, it blossomed into this pointless religious debate which I am compelled to be apart of if for no other reason to get my main point across:
“Atheists are not de facto evil.”
As I said to you before, the day notions like that stop appearing on this web site is the day I will never bring up the atheist topic again.
PS. There is such a thing as a fundamentalist parent that believes his/her atheist child is going to hell.

There are people who believe Christians should be exterminated. Should I be consumed by all the Christian hatred? I’m not saying it’s right. I’m saying that’s just how it is. I don’t think that atheists are de facto evil. I’ve never said such a thing. In fact, I get along well with abstractmind and James Felix (much respect for their intelligence). Chap too. He’s just a liberal and he catches flak for that. We are all taking hits. Some of us just don’t take it so personally.
Yeah and some parents disown their kids when they come out of the closet and announce that they are gay, some don’t. I ask you if you thought your parents would tell YOU otherwise.

I’m late to this thread, but I enjoyed reading the exchanges between zeroangel and trollman. My 2 cents and understanding of Scripture is that you have to know Jesus to reject Jesus. I also believe that despite not knowing Jesus, a person can be instrumental in doing God’s will. My dad is a former Catholic/now atheist, but I question if he ever really knew Jesus. He too was turned off by some stupid thing he was taught by an ignorant nun as a kid. He can’t see that spiritually, he’s still stuck at that level of maturity. He just thumbs his nose at it, and can’t understand how anyone can believe that “garbage”. I myself have been through a lot spiritually – I believed as a child, then went on a roller-coaster of believing, not believing, Buddhism, Wicca, New Age, what have you. Finally, I came home, and “put away childish things”. If you believe in God, you eventually understand that you can’t judge God by human standards. If you don’t believe, then what difference does it make? If there’s no God, then there’s no heaven, no hell to which you are condemned, no angels, and anything we Christians say about it should have no impact. But zero, I will pray for you, just like my dad and sisters. I don’t know if anyone is in hell, only God knows that. But I think the best chance anyone has to get there is to really know and love Jesus – then reject Him.
By the way, I was at the March for Life – it was amazing!

Curious that I would be the one you want to pray for and not any of the other posters; especially the ones that think their fellow human beings are evil or should be condemned simply for not sharing their religious inclinations.

Actually zero, you did write my sermon – inspired this week’s sermon, anyway. Coming up with the idea is the hard part, once that is done, it writes itself.
And yes, atheism is inherently immoral. I can understand people having doubts about God, I know I do. I can understand people not being aware of any good evidence for God. I can understand people who have been exposed to what they believe to be good arguments against Christianity. People who have good arguments against other religions. But all of this would only lead to agnosticism, not atheism.
Atheism goes beyond the evidence, and beyond any possible evidence, and concludes there is no God. How could you ever give evidence for that? You can’t. Thus, you only believe it because you want to believe it.
An atheist wants to be the measure of all things. He doesn’t want to have anyone over him. It is always pride. Pride is the genesis of all mankind’s sin. It says “You don’t need God, you can be God!” Just like in the Garden of Eden.
Case in point, look at zero’s posts. He has decided what is moral/immoral, and anyone who disagrees with him must be insane!
For someone who doesn’t believe in God, you seem to have a God-complex.
He doesn’t like atheists being called evil, but believing what the Bible says, now that is evil! So, if you believe what the Bible plainly teaches (which is evil), that means you have evil thoughts, and consequently are evil yourself.
“Don’t call me evil, you evil people! Hey, everybody, come look at how evil their beliefs are!”
zero gave up belief in God based upon his reasoning as a child. He still sticks to it, even though it has been demonstrated to be, well, childish.
A person who humbles himself to ask for forgiveness should not be treated better than someone who, pride in tact, insist they aren’t that bad and don’t want forgiveness. But God is being unfair to the proud because He is willing to have mercy on the humble?
In Christianity, forgiveness is a virtue, which is why mercy triumphs over justice. To zero, pride triumphs over all. After all, he doesn’t need forgiveness.
Deep down, you know all these things are true. Why else would it bug you so much when people equate atheism with immorality? I am called evil all the time, and yet it does not bother me. The Truth has a way of bringing about freedom and peace.

How many times do I have to state I am (by definition) both agnostic AND atheist?
How many times do I have to state that I actually often WISH I could believe in “god” but can’t since it makes no sense to me?
How often do I have to point out that any moralizing I do is no different then any you do, except I don’t try and invoke the creator of the universe and just let my ideas stand on their own?
Who is the more moral person, a person that grovels before a creator being and begs for forgiveness because he is unworthy or humble or a person that is good for goodness sake? Why can’t we say just say, neither and does it matter?
Nonsense, I guarantee any poster calling Christians “evil” would be jumped all over by you.
Trollman, please, for the sake of decency toward other human beings, if your sermon is about how atheists are evil, reconsider your sermon. You are about to preach hate in your church!

Apparently, since I disagree with you, I am a hater. Just like other say, to believe and teach that homosexual behavior is sin is hate. Because I believe atheism (which is distinct from agnosticism, take a philosophy course if you don’t believe me) is immoral, that is hate, too.
Whatever. The sermon (primarily) isn’t even about atheism, it is about the folly of people who “know better” than God. There are plenty of both religious and atheistic examples of such.

I freely admit I do not know and I can’t believe (since it seems so unlikely to me). In the same way that you might say, “I might be wrong, but I believe;” I would say, “I might be wrong, but I can’t believe.”
I can’t wish myself to believe anymore than I could wish myself to believe in Zeus!
It’s not about having different beliefs, it’s about you preaching that a class of your fellow human beings are evil simply because they can’t believe!
In any case, if your sermon is about people that claim to “know better” than God (or I might say, a kind of appeal to objective morality), I suppose I wouldn’t object. Good luck with your sermon.
