One Pennsylvanian’s response to John Murtha
I’ll have more to say about Murtha in my column tomorrow, but for now I’ll share what one Pa. voter suggested would be a fair trade:
“We’ll take the detainees if Gitmo will take Murtha.”

Let Gitmo keep the detainees AND Abscam!
He does seem to care more for terrorists intent on killing Americans than he does actual Americans.
Due to murtha’s constant display of erratic behavior , is there a statute for a mental evaluation of this man. How many signatures from his district would it take to make this happen? Could any of his family members make this happen?
The poster child for term limits.
That’s exactly what I was thinkin’.
The only problem with this idea is that Murtha is better than the terrorists at slandering our troops.
All he’d have to do is make false claims of murder and torture, raise a little hell, and he’d be out quicker than Obama could say “close those CIA black sites.”
I think putting all the Gitmo terrorists in Murtha’s district is a good beginning as punishment for the blithering idiots in his district that re-elected that dirtbag.

Guam and Puerto Rico operate the same way….. That’s why their “independence” movements fail. There are more loafers who want the government cheese than patriots who are willing to work to build a real republic.
A hell of a lot of GOOD people voted for Col. Bill Russell for Murtha’s district, just not enough. Murtha won the battle, but, the war will be won in 2010.

As a Pennsylvanian (transplanted from Maryland)his statements and actions are stunning in their stupidity. Trust me, you can deposit the Gitmo prisoners here, but they won’t be leaving alive. His statements don’t reflect his constitutients or that of 99.9999% of the voters of this state.
A competency hearing is in order. Soon.
BTW, almost every state has one or more chronic fools that keep on getting re-elected to a state or federal position. At least we can spot them (although we’ve had a hard time getting ride of them here in PA).
Hey, we can’t leave out a couple “rehabs” being housed by Pelosi and a couple more for Reid. I know Murtha is near the top for pork, but he’s not greedy.
I thought Murtha was stupid to call his own constituents “racist” and “redneck”, but since he suggested that the Gitmo detainees should be transferred to his district’s minimum security prison, I realized he is

Seriously, he thinks that they (Gitmo detainees) are no more dangerous than the people already there (his prison, which is, I repeat, minimum security)? What is he on?
Since they’re going to close it, only Cubans would be fighting over him. No problem there.
Is there really a facility that can house these prisoners?? I heard that the only one in his district is minimum security–not maximum which is what will be needed for those wonderful folks at Gitmo. Seems like grandstanding to me—-or maybe one of those upcoming “pork projects” should be a max prison in his district. Then we can just move those boys right straight into his neighborhood!!!

Right, if Murtha is seriously volunteering to take those detainees, he’ll need a prison that can hold them (despite what Mr. Foot In Mouth may think, I don’t believe minimum security will do in this case).

I would be perfectly happy to have Murtha take all of the terrorist thugs and murders. Among the problems I have are that he can’t keep them in his district if they escape and he can’t keep their terrorist to be friends from visiting them to exchange good ideas for killing people in America and around the world. The people of Murtha’s district made a mistake in re-electing this bozo, and they will have to pay the piper for a couple more years if not more if he continues to be re-elected
The really sad part about all of this is that we could have had a hundred military tribunals and quite a few executions if Bush has just acted swiftly. This is another blemish on the face of compassionate conservatism that is all too often compassionate for those who hate America and hate conservative thinkers.
Murtha was the one who condemned the military members before they even went to trial.
He called his constituents Racists and Rednecks
Now he wants to bring Gitmo detainees to his state.
In spite of all of the railing against him, what does this really say about the system and the electorate?
This isn’t just an isolated case. This same thing goes on in State after state after state, election cycle after election cycle.
People rail against the representative they have put in office but yet they leave them there indefinitely instead of voting someone else in.
Instead of calling Murtha names and railing aginst his idiotic statements and actions, VOTE HIM OUT or suffer the consequences.
I think this says as much about the people he represents as it does about him.
If this doesn’t get Murtha kicked out in two years, nothing will! Pennsylvania, have you all lost your minds?
If anyone doubted that “elections have consequences”, this should rest their doubts.
Bill Russell needs to start his 2010 campaign NOW. Stay in the news, keep on the offense. Murtha probably got re-elected because of Obama’s coattails. Off year campaigns often show losses for the party in the White House.

I know that we wonder how people could vote back in a stooge like Murtha who hates the military. IMHO, though, I sense that it isn’t that surprising. When one considers the entire population, and the percentage of that population that wore or wears the uniform vs the percentage of that population on the doll or left wing….. I would suspect a huge disparity, hence people like Murtha, Franken and others being considered. That said, I agree with an earlier poster, we fight guerrilla style , slowly and pick our fights… but fight we must, even if outnumbered at present. My advice for the Repubs and Rinos in the House and senate now?.. be as obstructionist as you can, that’s how our founding fathers wanted it to be. This rubber stamping these past few days is really pissing me off.

It’s true that 58% voted for him and I still am amazed at that.

Across the country, people voted against Bush and as an extension, Republicans. What a legacy, George. You destroyed your party and country. You had some help, but you were manning the con.

My answer: Put them in the Lincoln Bedroom.

The GITMO decision and Murtha’s acceptance of it is an affront to not only the 9/11 families but the military members who capured these monsters on the battlefield. I lost two friends on 9/11 and a friend in Iraq and I am just disgusted the turn this country has taken.

Johnstown, PA is the heart of Murtha’s district. Johnstown is also loaded with senior citizens and out-of-work steel workers. Wonder how they’ll feel in Johnstown will feel when these guys show up.
There is no maximum security prison in Murtha’s district, so he’ll have to fund one.
They can name the prison the Murtha Hilton. It will bring more jobs to Johnstown! It will spark the economy!

I thought one of the reasons why some of these were to be tried in a military tribunal was because of classified information such as intelligence sources and methods.
I doubt Urkel has had enough time to review any of that, or even consider how to protect that in open court.
Now he wants to close Gitmo, which suggests they will be tried in open court…likely with taxpayer supplied defense lawyers.
Considering he (and the rest of the surrendercrats) is again handcuffing the CIA and other intelligence agencies, how soon before we are hit again?

Treating terrorism as a criminal matter doesn’t work.
I suppose it won’t be long before I see these “terrorists” alongside a road in Pennsylvania, picking up trash in orange jackets, unless orange would be considered “racist”. If they are to be treated as “criminals”, they may have the right to bail too, according to the mindset today. It wasn’t long ago that the world used to shoot people out of uniform, or terrorists. Now, they want to handle them with kid gloves. With our politicians, it’s not what’s good for the country, it’s a “what’s in it for me?” mentality.
