Colorado Dem. Gov. Ritter: We’ll have some more jihadists, please!

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 23, 2009 10:59 AM

Zacarias Moussaoui’s already at Supermax in Colorado. Democrat Gov. Bill Ritter wants to give him more company, via Ben DeGrow:

Ritter’s acceptance stands in stark contrast to the reactions of leaders in several other states.

Fellow Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas warned the Obama administration not to send prisoners to Fort Leavenworth in her state.

A congressman from California is drafting legislation to prevent suspected terrorists from being held at Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

Even some fellow Colorado Democrats have their eyebrows raised in skepticism:

Rep. Buffie McFadyen (D- Pueblo West) said she opposes bringing military detainees to a civilian prison.

“I’m not worried that someone would break out of Supermax,” said McFadyen. “It just doesn’t seem right that we would burden the Bureau of Prisons with the Department of Defense and the military’s problem.

If it weren’t so damned dangerous for the rest of us, I’d just have to say, “Priceless!”

Abdel-Rahman’s imprisonment has become a rallying point for Islamic militants around the world, including Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. In 1997, members of his group Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya conducted two attacks against European visitors to Egypt, including the massacre of 58 tourists at Deir el-Bahri in Luxor. In addition to killing women and children, the attackers mutilated a number of bodies and distributed leaflets throughout the scene demanding Rahman’s release.

In 2005, members of Rahman’s legal team, including attorney Lynne Stewart, were convicted of facilitating communication between the imprisoned Sheikh and members of the terrorist organization Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya in Egypt.

Much higher in altitude and the mind doesn’t compute the altitude and one tends to lose one’s fear of heights, or so I was told once.

Sha-BANG! That’s the issue in a pithy nutshell. Military, not civilian. Note that McFadyen is a Dem.

I can’t understand why so many Americans want to think the worst of their military, that we just yanked these people at random and locked them away for this length of time. If these detainees are innocent, why would the military waste their resources in holding them? They know how controversial this Gitmo thing is. They know the world is watching. If the military was certain that these detainees were faultless, they wouldn’t be holding them anymore. As long as that uncertainty is there, keep them in military custody. The enemy doesn’t take prisoners—it takes off heads while the sympathizers gloat and take to the streets in celebration and support.

War on terror, shmore on terror, right? Millions are at risk, while Democrats worry about the comfort—nay, the libertad! of a few hundred suspected war criminals. Stuck on 9/10.
