“It seems the era of Hope is to be inaugurated with a slaughter of the innocents.”

There’s a very powerful read from Gerald Warner in the London Telegraph today. A snippet:
This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence – la trahison des clercs – in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right…
…To anyone who kept his head, the string of Christmas cracker mottoes booming through the public address system on Washington’s National Mall can only excite scepticism. It is crucial to recall the reality that lies behind the rhetoric. Denouncing “those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents” comes ill from a man whose flagship legislation, the Freedom of Choice Act, will impose abortion, including partial-birth abortion, on every state in the Union. It seems the era of Hope is to be inaugurated with a slaughter of the innocents.
Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is like one of those toxic packages traded by bankers: it camouflages many unaffordable gifts to his client state. With a federal deficit already at $1.2 trillion, Obama wants to squander $825 billion (which will undoubtedly mushroom to more than $1 trillion) on creating 600,000 more government jobs and a further 459,000 in “green energy” (useless wind turbines and other Heath-Robinson contraptions favoured by Beltway environmentalists).
It is frightening to think there is a real possibility that the entire world economy could go into complete meltdown and famine kill millions. Yet Western – and British – commentators are cocooned in a warm comfort zone of infatuation with America’s answer to Neil Kinnock. We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. The best deserve a probationary opportunity to prove themselves, the worst should be in jail.

I’m not righteous enough to turn the other cheek. I’ll have to deal with it on my, and God’s terms. Are you saying God will hate me for defending my child? be careful how you answer…
I realize, God says ” vengeance is mine” I guess, I’m not that holy…But, I try.
I look at the picture of the young mother in the story’s photo and I wonder if she is thinking: “If Obama was President last year I could have aborted this child and Fedzilla would have paid for it and I would not be punished by having a baby“.
Or perhaps she is just a celebrity loving tonto-we have millions of those.
First of all, you bow to me and you might taste filet of “sole”. Second, I was being facetious not degrading. Third, you can choose to believe what you want. That’s the beauty of it. However, there are consequences to choosing poorly. The unrepentant murderers will spend an eterernity in hell. And, for your information, abortion is murder.
Now, here’s the good part. You can be forgiven of any sin by accepting Jesus as your Savior. It’s a free gift purchased by Jesus on the cross. He died for you. Paul said in Romans 5:8 “[Romans 5:6, 10] while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. So here’s the deal. In Matthew 16 we read ” 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
So the question to all of us is simply, who do you say Jesus is? Your answer determines where you will spend eternity.
First he’s Jesus, now he’s Herod – now that’s what I call change.
By the way Jeff. Holy only means to be set apart. For whom are you set apart?
I’m not sure where that was going. He’s not the anti-christ either. He does need us to pray for his salvation though.
So sez your god from your book. When you have proof come back and try the sales job again. At this point no one really knows if there is or is not a god (or which god out of the many worshiped on this planet for that matter).
Turn the Other Cheek, Judge Not are some of the most misused quotes from the Bible-called Easy Christanity- a sin of weakness. Yes you may turn the other cheek to an evil man and witness your faith. You also stand guard and defend your home and family from the thief in the night and protect the widow and orphans. A Christian who does not provide for his own family is worse than the unbeliever.
Do not Judge Least Ye Be Judge is wrongly used-We WILL be judged by the standards we use-so make sure you know your scripture. We are to have the Spirit of Discernment.
Matthew 7:1, “Judge not that ye be not judged.
Matthew 7:6 “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine”
Matthew 7:15,16,20“Beware of false prophets…You will know them by their fruits”
Matthew 18“And if you brother sins, go and reprove him.And if he refuses to listen…tell it to the church”
Matthew 7:3-5 “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?…You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
Yes, first we repent of our sins and avoid them and then reprove our brothers. But I have some bad news for the unbelievers: you are not our brothers in Christ and you have nothing to say about it until you repent and believe.
Proverbs 28:4 “Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them”
Yes God says ” vengeance is mine”. Abraham hunted down and killed the Kings who kidnapped Lot and his family-not for vengeance but to rescue Lot- a point I imagine is lost on the unbeliever and weaker brothers.
So the short of it is yes Jeff2161 you are to defend your family to the point of death if that is what needed-it is not your right so much as your God Given Responsibility. Be gentle when you can but hard when you must.
Matthew 12:31-32
And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
No, not all sins will be forgiven. I do hope someday you do find what we have havok–if you have gone that far is not for me to say–but you do mock. But that is nothing new–we have known you since the Fall. There is but one God and his Angels; all the others are but Satan and his Angles.

How does one reconcile the two?
I don’t know. I’m just asking. Perhaps the answer lies in the Army Field Manual.
Lan astaslem,
John
This executive order violates the individual right of private property.
Our country was founded on the principle of private property and economic freedom.
This is how our country grew into the greatest ever seen in the history of man.
Governments only legitimate role is to protect individual rights.
Obama thinks individual rights are irrelevant in favor of group or collective good.
He is wrong!
When your money is seized in the form of taxes to pay for something outside of the authority of the government they have expanded their power and taken yours.
This is a violation of the Constitution,
it is about time people started saying so!

Republicanvet says:
The Catholic Church is actually doing something about this and it’s not through edicts but through the collective action of members of its congregation. This weekend, right before the end of the liturgy, thousands of Parishes across the nation were asked and encouraged by their respective Right To Life ministries lay leaders to sign postcards addressed to their Legislators, urging Congress NOT TO SUPPORT the Freedom Of Choice Act (FOCA)and other pro-abortion bills and to retain existing laws against government funding and promotion of abortion. We collected hundreds of these postcards in our parish yesterday and more than likely will be doubled at the end of the day. Extrapolate these numbers across the nation and it should amount to hundreds of thousand if not millions of signed petitions to Congress. Hopefully, this grassroot movement by their constituents will get some traction.
They have great hearing the day before election day, but go deaf as a stump the day after.
How would you feel if I told you that I hope you someday find what I have?
Yes…change my words to fit your view. You would have made a nice little Islamist if given the chance.
He isn’t threatening to hunt you down, havok. And to your post above that one, the point is you DON’T HAVE ANYTHING. We regret the emptiness of your views. We prefer the hope of something to come than the nihilistic view that we are nothing once we die.
I’m agnostic. I admit I don’t know if there is or is not a god or a spirit or an afterlife. It is not a nihilistic view. If you want to make me beleive what you do then come up with some proof.
Why would anyone care what you believe?
They shouldn’t so perhaps no one should care what you beleive either.
We hear it everyday from the World of Unbelievers, their movies, televisions, schools and such-so we feel pity for them–sorry.
Athiests are non-beleivers. Agnostics admit they don’t know. You should not confuse the two. It’s like saying Christianity, Hinduism and Islam are the same.
Proof? I’ll try.

God can’t be proven in the physical sense. If you look around and try to see what is all around you in a new way and open your heart, you will not need to find God. He already knows where you are and will let you know he is there with you.
When some do that they find Shiva or Buddah or Allah or maybe a flying spaghetti monster.
Flyover….thanks for being polite. I honestly do have an admiration for those with faith. It’s anoying that many of those with faith don’t have an understanding for those of us still looking and trying find answers.
Why can’t you admit you don’t know, but come down on the side of believing there is no God?
Havok,
The reason I am a Christian is very simple. I have come to accept what makes Christians, at least most of us, unique.
Christians come to accept the principle of, “I can’t.” What I mean by that is every other faith provides a supposed path for you to to obtain eternal life through you own efforts.
We believe you can’t. We are flawed and no matter how hard we try on our own it is futile. God’s grace and his undeserved love save us.
Also, no matter how complex life seems to get, you one day realize if we all truly followed, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” the whole world would be a pretty nice place to live on instead of what we see on the news.
Have a good rest of your day. You are opening you heart and your mind to see what is beyond what your senses perceive. That is more than most are willing to do. I applaud you for that. Now I ask you to feel sympathy for me as I have to clean my basement….YUK.
I am not saying it is not a worthy ideal to pursue, but surely you understand that this concept is hardly unique to Judaeism/Christianity and predates either of these religions.
I certainly do.
….. and don’t call me Shirley.
(sorry Chap, could not resist)
Flyoverman,
Have you ever been to a Turkish prison?
Chap,
No,but I ave seen a grown man naked and I do like gladiator movies.
Actually, there is lots of evidence for God, particularly the Christian God. See Gary Habermas’ historical evidence for the resurrection, or anything by William Lane Craig.
If you are an athiest you state there is no god and you don’t leave the door open that there *might* be one (or two or three….). Atheists can no more prove that god does not exist than the various beleivers can prove some god does exist. God is an insoluble argument when physical proof is unavailable and instead the various proofs are based on emotion, thoughts and belief. Each person has a different threshhold on what validates their non-physical proof.

You’re right about the atheist part – (even in theory) it is impossible to prove that no god of any kind exists. But you are wrong about the believer’s part. There is no reason (at least in theory) that it would be impossible to show positive evidence for the existence of God.
There is also positive evidence for the theory of evolution but many refuse to deal with it. It is just a theory and is generally unprovable at this point but in a million years with enough research and observation it may be validated.
There is positive evidence for global warming and also positive evidence against. I’m on the side of observe and monitor and let’s see what we get. Panic and giving your money to Al Gore sure won’t help either.
How do you validate a god (from any religion) exists when you have no physical proof?
Physical proof?
Despite Al Gore, Charles Darwin, Emmanuel Kant and their ilk the Proof of God is written in the Glory of His Creation and men’s heart. Some have eyes and will not see, others have hardened their hearts and made either themselves or Creation their gods.
We have Moses, the Prophets and the Gospel of Salvation; it is enough. All we can do is witness for it is the Holy Spirit who saves men’s souls.
In other words: No.
Are you suggesting your/mine/others existence IS the proof?
Yes, havok, you are proof that God exists.
Havok,
If you are looking for answers try Googling “Dr. Ivan Panin”
And see if mathematical proof will open your mind to the possibility of God writing a message to you and I across thousands of years by different authors with one message in mind.
Just give it a try and see where it leads you.
Thank you all for keeping the atheist/agnostic/believer conversation civil. It makes it much better to read, and the various points are made more effective. The conversation is important, even if there are no conversions either way, as the understanding of all of us is enhanced.
Kevin,
It is very important to keep this discussion civil. There is no benefit to anyone by starting to kick over the beehive in order to retrieve the honey.
If that is the case you people are in serious trouble. 8^]
I’ll second Kevin K’s sentiment.
I will do such. For fun you should try looking up Shermer’s essay on glorious contingency.
not good
You want proof of God?
one word: ISRAEL.
it exists as a nation again, as the Lord of Hosts said it would…and He said Iran and Russia will lead a confederacy of nations against it…
think it’ll happen?? we all know its just a matter of time before Iran attacks Israel…and who is helping Iran build the bomb?? oh yeah the RUSSIANS…big surprise huh??
and when they do invade, they’re in for a very ugly surprise
oh yeah He said this would happen 2,500 years ago through Ezekiel the prophet…check out chapters 37-39

What exactly do you consider “physical” proof?
That is why they call it faith.
faith
n.
1. Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2. Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief, trust.
Jamson64 said:
Definition #1 is what the Bible teaches about faith. #2 is not what the Bible teaches, but many people mistakenly adhere to it.
Jesus told His critics, if there isn’t any reason to believe Him, they aren’t obligated to believe. But if there are good reasons to believe in Him, then they are obligated to believe. See John 10:37-38.
It get weirder and stranger all the time:

Psalms 139:13-16: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Yes.
When asked about the Pope’s condemnation of his EO. President Obama was reported to have asked, “How many divisions does the Vatican have?”
President Obortion
It makes my skin crawl and my stomach churn to see this man (and I use the term loosely) anywhere near a child, knowing full well he would have no problem with an abortionist stabbing that healthy child and sucking out his brains then flushing his remains down a garbage disposal all in the name of “a woman’s right to choose.” We should learn a lesson from the Old Testament – the kings of Israel allowed their children to “pass through the fire”, that is, they we sacrificed as burnt offerings on the alters of false gods and Israel came under divine judgment because if it. Are we really any better?

Personally, I think taking out someone like Saddam Hussein – you know, who fed people into woodchippers feet first just for disagreeing with him – and replacing his mass graves with a democracy is consistent with a respect for life.
Trollman – give me a break.
We went there for WMD’s remember? And we dropped thousands of bombs and killed over 600,000 people.
Is this how you explain your indifference to Iraqi life to your God?

Try over 40 million, perhaps over 50 million. And get this, NONE of them were terrorists or insurgents, they were ALL innocent.

When the USA suffers a Nuclear 9/11 many will say it was because Obama did this or that or closed Gitmo, or was too friendly with Iran or whatever race/religion/nationality the nukers were.
My answer will be that it was because the USA chose to elect a man who made it easier to shed innocent blood, something that God hates (see Proverbs 6.16-17).
Proof, please, that the USA has killed 600,000+ Iraqis sicne 2003. So far, I’ve seen this quote A LOT without one shred nor iota of proof. Proof, reference, or evidence, please — put up or shut up….
Agree Jason L. Where is proof of $600,000? I also have never seen anything to back up that number. Ilovemycountry (what a misnomer!)needs to pick up a Bible. God says it’s the responsibility of Gentiles to defend and protect his chosen ones, Israel, and to that end defend them against ruthless, sadistic butchers such as Saddam Hussein and all other terrorists groups (such as Hamas). Liberals have no solid footing in any claim when they say that we Republican conservatives have taken lives arbitrarily. We are collectively appalled by the taking of INNOCENT lives of those who have no defense. Based on your statement, ILMC, we should have done nothing when Hitler came to power? Get your facts together and start with reading the bible about Isaac and Ishmael (so you can better understand why you sympathize with Muslim terrorists). IMO, you are a putz.
