Contraceptive funding thrown under Obama’s bus
Goody. Panicky President Obama wants the Dems to eliminate Pelosi’s pet contraceptive funding from the Generational Theft Act of 2009. Only $800 billion more in needless, unstimulating stimulus spending to kill.
The left-wing blogs are having a snit fit.
It’s a start:
House Democrats are likely to jettison family planning funds for the low-income from an $825 billion economic stimulus bill, officials said late Monday, following a personal appeal from President Barack Obama at a time the administration is courting Republican critics of the legislation.
Several officials said a final decision was expected on Tuesday, coinciding with Obama’s scheduled visit to the Capitol for separate meetings with House and Senate Republicans.
The provision has emerged as a point of contention among Republicans, who criticize it as an example of wasteful spending that would neither create jobs nor otherwise improve the economy.
Under the provision, states no longer would be required to obtain federal permission to offer family planning services — including contraceptives — under Medicaid, the health program for the low-income.
Democrats considered the politically-potent change as congressional budget experts estimated it would take slightly longer for the overall legislation to achieve an impact on the economy than the administration projects…
…Several Democrats said Monday night that Obama had spoken personally with Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., about removing the provision. Waxman is chairman of the committee with jurisdiction over Medicaid and a close ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
The Democrats who described the likely reversal did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to disclose developments not yet made public.
Obama’s request to House Democrats underscores the administration’s desire to signal a spirit of bipartisanship, a recurring theme for the president in his first week in office.

I’ve always been surprised that Dems are so pro-abortion, since (I would venture to guess) about 90% of aborted fetuses would grow up to be reliable democrat votes.

I can see a certain diabolical leftist logic in funding contraception through the “economic stimulus” package. After all, it won’t be a “Generational Theft Act” if there is no future generation to inherit the debt.
No, CJ, you overlooked the obvious. The crooks in Congress will import a whole new generation from elsewhere and continue to hold them in bondage to the state. In other words, the leftists will become the new plantation managers in a “brave new world” where they rule over peasants who never knew anything about the great nation that was America.
From where? Don’t forget, Obama is going to finance abortions in other countries.

Seems to me that this is actually about San Francisco cash values. With a 9 to 1 federal kickback, this measure was going to plow a lot of cash into the SF medical system. All SF would need to do is to DROP existing coverage by a factor of 10, and they would still have the same amount of cash for the program as they use today. Meantime, they could take the rest of the money from this cash cow and plow it into something usefull, like the free health care that the mayor has promised.
This is all about Nancy Pelosi handing a lot of cash to another democrat. In this case, a pathetic mayor that dreams of being governor.
