President Obama, you can’t stifle this dissent

President Obama’s new economic stimulus ploy is to declare that no dissent on the need for massive government action exists.
He is wrong.
Via Cato Institute: Here are 200 economists, including Nobel Laureates, who oppose the Generational Theft Act of 2009. The open letter is running as an ad in the NY Times, Washington Post and Roll Call this week.
And here, via Hans Bader at Open Market, are more skeptics.
Perhaps they’ll drag Joe Biden out of the closet to call the dissenters…unpatriotic.

Gov Blagojevich is starting to get some traction in the media.
http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/2009/01/blagojevich-impeachment-neil-cavuto.html
Liberals are always telling us how patriotic it is to dissent. I’m feeling very patriotic today.
Whew some of us are making a stand. Lets get of the Blago, airplane, commode bandwangon, smokescreen of the left.
Its time to focus on the current attack on freedom-understand it and fight it.
What I hear from the liberal morons that I interact with is that when conservatives dissent, it’s not “dissent” in the usual definition/context, but rather “wishing for Obama to fail”.
May be…Just like calling dissenters of war based on lies in Iraq as unpatriotic.
Or even calling true soldiers as unpatriotic by crazy pinko crowd for rightly beating terrorists form Afghanistan…
Or hate, or racism, anything but dissent.
Dissent is only patriotic when you are (a) liberal, and (b) protesting against (1) the war in Iraq, (2) war crimes committed by the criminals in the Bush administration, (3) anyone who thinks that BO won’t bring “hopenchange” to the government, (4) conservative columnists, bloggers, and spokesmen who point out the fact that the Emperor has no clothes, or (5) all of the above.
Anything else is pure, unadulterated hate speech, and those indulging in it should be immediately silenced and sent to the soon-to-open reeducation camps.
Not me, I’m feeling very unpatriotic, as in trying to figure a way to pay the least amount of tax for ’08!
Just like “tolerance” means acceptance and “diversity” means forced inclusion.
You’re forgetting about the obligatory double standard. Dissent against Republican policies is patriotic. Dissent against Liberal policies is hateful.
Come to think of it, as far as liberals are considered, Patriotism is hateful when Conservatives (or even Republicans) express it.
They haven’t asked my opinion. WHY? Because I’d tell them to go shove their programs up their collected, collective as***.
Except when “tolerance” means not tolerating diverse beliefs, and “diversity” means everyone has to think alike.
Next your going to tell me the Easter Bunny isn’t real.
I DO want the O to fail because success for him is unbridled socialism. I just don’t want him to drag the country over a cliff on his way down. The stimulus bill will do just that.
Grow a spine, Rs. If you don’t we’re screwed for years.
Neither is the tooth fairy
I have a rude shock for you about santa as well.
Yep.
Socialists’ development has been arrested at the adolescent stage.
They really are a “herd of indepenedent minds”, sort of the way rebellious teenagers show their indivuality by dressing exactly like one another.
well, there goes my day. lol
‘Diversity’ and ‘Tolerance’ means I won’t donate to my alma mater.
I call it rebelling in unison.
SSG sonofdy explaining himself to the re-education camp commander:
“I turned arround for just a split second and somehow the entire camp just up and left on those army trucks that were supposed to be locked in the motor pool. Werid”
pvt sonofdy walks out of the office.
sonofdy– I heard Lisa Simpson put it best:
‘How nonconformist,… in a conformist sort of way.’
First of all you cannot cite me a single example of any Conservative or Republican politician, or for that matter even a high-profile conservative blogger/pundit calling someone unpatriotic for that. It’s a beloved liberal myth completely unsupported by reality. Which, now that I think about it, makes it like most other Liberal thoughts.
Secondly you really, really need to look up the word “lie” and see what it means. When you clearly don’t know the meaning of so simple a word it gives one cause to doubt the validity of everything else you say.
I’d love to rebut that but frankly I can’t figure out what you’re trying to say.
Ask them this: If you don’t want to see the president fail, why did you vote for a president who advocates socialist policies that historically have done nothing but fail?
You call this dissent?
Sounds more like sour grapes.
I have to disagree with using the term “groupthink”
Think doesn’t come into the equation. Take Nancy Pelosi trying to explain how 1/4 billion dollars to Planned Parenthood would stimulate the economy for example. Take anything New York’s permanent junior senator Chucky Schumer says for example – ANYTHING.
I prefer the term “sheepledrive”
PKAmmoTroop: how about this: “… especially when characterized by uncritical acceptance or conformity to prevailing liberal/socialist points of view.”
exibit one. Ilovemycountry
To all the liberals that come here to rant and worry,
The Age of Pretending
Individual freedom is America, socialism is not.
Then you don’t understand what sour grapes are. You should bone up on your Aesop.
Sour grapes, in this case, would be something like “I’m glad Obama won, let him take the blame for all this” or “Obama won so my country is therefore stupid/evil/corrupt etc, so I don’t care what happens”.
That’s not what anyone is saying though, at least not here. What you have here is people who object to Obama’s plans based on an assortment of pragmatic and idealogical grounds. And it’s worth noting that we had all the same objections when Republicans proposed these things.
For you to interpret that as sour grapes is beyond silly.
Blagojevich is being hung out to dry, and the rest of his cronies back in Illinois are playing a losing game of covering their behind. Fritchie, yesterday on Neil Cavuto, Blagojevich is corrupt, the pot calling the kettle black…if they push Blagojevich, what recourse is he left with but to make deals with Fitzgerald..remember his wife was working with Tony Rezko in Real Estate…Obama -Rezko- Real- Estate. Dissent and 5 dollars will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Blagojevich is a treasure trove of information that needs to be mined. I say let the man Speak.
We are not the silent majority, but the SILENCED majority.

I’d add that so many of the immature socialists seem to consider elections as a type of game, like a basketball game or tennis match; or, a sort of student-council election popularity contest; hence, their silly, shallow, mindless cheerleading.
However, I think elections have become a high-stakes, existential struggle for survival.
Our nation, society, culture, pocketbooks,..and now, our very civilization and lives are at stake.
And what do the socialists do?
Well, they do not disappoint.
As they have for decades, they dismiss concerns, ridicule, and project their faults, bad habits, and bad intentions onto others.
Since “liberalism” is now considered the “norm” in this country, that makes it the standard, hence “conservative”. I, hereby, declare myself a “liberal” and dissent against the government. I will now support a candidate who will come out and be for “hope and change” in our government. Now that I am a liberal, I should be considered patriotic, vowing dissent…maybe organize a “code red”. I shall demonstrate against the new conservatives by demonstrating in front of military recruiting posts with banners praising our troops. I shall also go to military funerals and demonstrate by bowing my head, lowering the flags, and having a moment of silence for the brave soldier and his family. In this age now, that ought to get at least front page of the NYT. Maybe a downtown D.C. march chatting, “Yes, yes, we will go!”. I was once a young man and quite the “liberal” in the 60s. Ah, this feels good again.
Shut down Washington now before it’s too late. This is a freaking Frankenstein’s monster.
I disagree. Frankenstein’s monster was innocent, well-intentioned and (in the original novel) very helpful.
Washington DC is none of those things.
More like… “After Obama announced his
non-negotiable demandspolicy proposal he was almost stampeded in the sheepledrive of panting RINO’s and drooling liberals willing tobend over andaccept what ever he said blindly.”PK – would this be a “BOHICA” moment?
“I am sick and tired of people who say that ‘if you debate and you disagree with this administration’, then someway you’re “not patriotic”…. And we should stand up and say, “WE ARE AMERICANS, AND WE HAVE A RIGHT TO DEBATE AND TO DISAGREE, WITH ANY ADMINISTRATION !!”
=Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, spoken in 2005.
Wait, are we talking about his stimulus plan or global warming?
I asked then, I asked now and I’ll keep asking until someone on the Left answers me: when did any Conservative call anyone unpatriotic for the mere act of dissent?
I’m with you on this one…it’s so hard for libs to distinguish between the personal and the professional. As for me, I don’t want Obama to fail personally, so much as I do professionally…
Now if I could hold out hope that he was truly acting in America’s best interests, then perhaps I would change my mind.
Well, Hill said somebody said it, so it has to be true, right???
EXACTLY. and Thank you.
What the Dem/Libs. somehow fail to understand, is that
What’s good for the goose, is also good for the gander.
What arrogance~!
Starting now and untill obama gets out one way or the other, yes.
So true, so sadly true.
Well they are obviously so correct with the whole billion scientists supporting global warming as truth – that I dont see how we could even consider that they could be wrong with this economic stimulus clustermuck.
Liberals remind me of something I heard back in college…
which is nothing at all like dissent based upon historically sound economic principles. Comparisons of those going against Pres Obama’s policies shouldn’t be compared to the Left unless they’re followed by /sarc off.
That works on so many levels
Rule #5, “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)

me too, Craig.
“I disagree. Frankenstein’s monster was innocent, well-intentioned and (in the original novel) very helpful.”
And Young Frankenstein could dance, too, Felix. Come to think of it Biden does stike the resemblance!
And we don’t even have to bomb a police station to prove it!
Have Obama or Biden or any top Democrats called these people unpatriotic or tried to stifle them in any way?
There is a healthy minority of economists who believes in this letter, but the large majority do not.
You could never get a group like this — prize winners and people at top universities — to deny global warming. Those lists include exactly one serious scientist.
200 economist and we can dissent. Unfortunately much of the Republican Leadership is so afraid of President Obama they not only will not dissent but they are trying to stop US.
House GOP member to Rush: Back off-politico.com
The phrase “gutless weenies” comes to mind. When Trophy Wife Senator Feinstein D-Kalifornia proposes her slicked up version of the Fairness Doctrine-by whatever name- I have a sick feeling a whole lot of gutless weenies in the GOP will go along.
Then it will be time for the Second American Revolution for the political process will have been closed in all but name.
Prove it!

B.S.
This so called stimulus package is really just a smoke screen, for the funneling of vast amounts of money to secret black programs. So they can build an interstellar star ship. So when the world comes to an end on dec 21 2012 they can escape and leave us with the bill.
Well said.
Your wrong. I have it from reliable sources that the money will be used to fund research into the modification of human DNA so we will dislike the taste of meat and all become vegetarians.
They already modified tobacco to cause lung cancer, so this should be a snap.
I’m with you, Michelle.
I dissent.
Obama’s new “economic stimulus” fixes nothing, and actually makes things worse.
Has anything been done to fix the root cause problems that led to the Fannie/Freddie mess? Democrats created that problem, Democrats made that problem worse, Democrats prevented Republicans from regulating Fannie/Freddie more (Dems practically calling Reps racists for the “political lynching” of Raines), Democrats successfully blamed the problem on Republicans and used it to gain complete control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress.
Have they done anything to fix the root cause problems, or have they only enabled massive funding to their campaign contributors and organizations like ACORN?
Socialism is not change I can believe in.
Liberals know absolutely nothing about the meaning of patriotism.
They spit on the flag, defend the “right” to burn it, and then turn around and act as if they are the arbiters of what constitutes patriotism.
They sully the sacred meaning of the flag and our Constitution when they do so.
Hope is not a plan. Not all change is good. When they come for me, my family, my friends, my neighbors, I’ll be manning the barricades. Resistance is here. Resistance is now. RESIST!
ECS
Da One has accused the Republicans of playing politics with the “[non]stimulus” package, being rigid, and intransigent while the “common people,” with whom the Democratic Socialist Party has nothing in common, suffer. Da One has gone on a tour to “appeal directly to the American people,” by which he means Da Obamedia, to pressure the Republicans to submit. If that’s not accusing them of being “unpatriotic” or trying “to stifle them in anyway, you must have already subscribed to “Newspeak.”
The resistance is here. The resistance is now. RESIST!
