Senate Dems undermining S-CHIP ID requirements for non-citizens

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 27, 2009 04:56 PM

The open-borders crowd has been pushing to get a piece of the S-CHIP pie for more than a year. House Republicans have flagged the issue repeatedly. The bill is now in the Senate.

CNS reports on Harry Reid’s diffident attitude about the loosened ID standards:

A proposed change to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), currently under reauthorization by Congress, could make it possible for people to get health coverage by presenting only a Social Security number, not a photo ID or proof of legal residency or citizenship, such as a birth certificate, driver’s license or passport.

When asked about this proposed revision in the SCHIP enrollment rules, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the legislation “is enforceable and fair, and I don’t think we need to do any better than what we’ve done.”

Reid added that this proposed change can be debated and senators will be allowed to make amendments to SCHIP as reauthorization moves forward.

The proposed change reverses a Bush administration regulation that required new enrollees to provide photo identification and proof of legal residency or citizenship to qualify for health coverage under SCHIP.

The new rule would require enrollees to present only a Social Security number and no other form of identification. This change opens the possibility that people could enroll in SCHIP with a fake or stolen Social Security number.

Makes sense, of course. Harry Reid believes illegal aliens are simply “undocumented Americans,” after all. Remember?

Of course illegals will end up on the program. What other gov’t program has ever stopped it? The barbarians have crashed the gate and are now looting this once great country.

Oh, and no worries, estimates are around 300K anchor babies are born here each year (and that was from 2005 statistics). So, most illegals will benefit at least indirectly by having taxpayers raise their “citizen” children for them. No way we can survive another 100 years wih the stupidity and power grabbing occurring in DC.

If the Reps don’t hang tight, and get some Blue-Dogs with sense to oppose things like this, there’s going to be an awful mess for Sara and Bobby to clean up in a few years.

    Cool.

Maybe that’s a way to save social security and medicare, everyone qualify as un-insured “children”.

That’s what my card says, although I got mine in the mid-1960s. Of course, the military uses it as a service number, and so many other places want to use it as well for ID that I sound paranoid when I don’t give up the number.

If you mean by good guys, law abiding citizens then yes, yes we did. I will go out on a limb and say that same 90%+ would agree to turn in our guns AS SOON as the gooberment can guarantee the criminals are disarmed first. Since killing the 2nd amendment is not about taking guns from criminals, liberals will try as hard as they can to take away our 2nd amendment rights.
