Florida’s junior senator, Republican Mel Martinez, called on his Senate colleagues today to reinstate a policy that prohibits U.S. tax dollars from going to international organizations responsible for performing and promoting abortions.
During the debate on reauthorizing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Martinez offered an amendment to reinstate the policy. The amendment was defeated by a vote of 37 to 60.
“The core of this argument is whether U.S. taxpayers ought to be forced to fund efforts abroad that utilize abortion as a means of family planning,” said Martinez. “If we want to continue fostering a culture of life, where every life is considered sacred, every child is celebrated, and life at all stages is given the dignity it deserves, then we will reinstate this policy.”
The Mexico City Policy was first implemented in 1984 under President Ronald Reagan. President Obama rescinded the policy Friday.

I don’t get this. This is as much an act of war against another culture as sending in the military. Don’t those on the left get that? Where is the outrage? Kill em’ with a bomb or with an abortion. What is the difference?
Even w/o appealing to a Pro-Life argument, paying for abortions in other countries is completely ridiculous since we can’t even pay for our own policies.

I always wonder about those “not voting” senators. WHAT are they in Congress for, but to vote on bills? Maybe for each non-vote they should be docked a month’s pay. THAT would get them off the stick.
Yup. I never bought the hype over her. A Democrat from NY is a Democrat from NY is a Democrat from NY.
I realize the futility of my asking, but how on earth is this remotely Constitutional? Unless this somehow falls under “To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States” (this would only apply if unborn children were somehow involved in a counterfeiting scheme); “To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water” (this would only apply if unborn children somehow posed a national security threat); or “To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes” (I suppose one could argue that Planned Parenthood has turned abortions into a profitable commercial enterprise), this is in no way Constitutional.

I don’t have the answer to it, but I’d love to see someone throw this at a court and see if it sticks.
We wonder why so many liberal agendas get pushed in this country. Well, the legal profession is dominated by liberals. You got a bunch of liberal lawyers suing on behalf of liberal causes while liberal judges are presiding. Result: Liberal laws.

Yet…when a pregnant woman is killed by a drunk driver, the drunk driver is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter?
Yet…when Islamic peoples use children as human shields, and those children are killed (along with the terrorist fathers and mothers) in a retaliatory bomb strike, those lives suddenly become precious?
Yet…the American people, and ‘others’ that live here, are struggling to make ends meet, are losing their jobs, homes, self-esteem, and faith in their government, but it is more important to send taxpayer money overseas to abort/kill/eliminate the unborn in other Christian countries, than to use all available funds for Americans?
And here I thought there was a crisis here at home!
So, after his first act as POTUS was to make terrorists more comfortable, Obama then proceeds to fund the killing of millions of brown and black babies.
The shorthand term is “mistakes.” About 48 years ago, a Kenyan man and a typical white woman (whose typical white mother died just recently after being run over by a bus) made a mistake, for which we’re all going to pay. That mistake must really hate his life, because he feels compelled to spare millions of unborn all over the world the burden (in his mind) of living. Also, I guess there was no salvation to be found for him in pot and cocaine. Go figure.
Pro-aborts have always fought those kinds of charges, including when a boyfriend/husband/father beats or kills a woman.
Acknowledging the humanity of the unborn child who is the victim of a violent crime forces them to acknowledge that a chlid killed by abortion is also human.
So they recognize there’s an inconsistency, and try to reconcile it by getting drunk drivers/abusers/thugs off the hook for murdering an unborn child.
Of course, this also indicates their respect for a woman’s “choice” is only limited to abortion; they clearly don’t respect the lives of women who choose to have a baby and lost that baby due to a crime…
“America begins by dictating” is what Obama told Arab television in his interview. Seems now that America begins by killing off the unborn.
Man I hate our two Senators. I will never understand why we keep voting them in. We are a socially conservative state and these two fools always vote party line.
I do recall one of them speaking out against the amnesty bill though, so maybe there is “hope” for “change” after all. Oh wait, who am I kidding. They’ll be voting for the “stimulus” as well I’m sure.

Casey of Pennsylvania voted to kill brown and black babies.
His father, then governor of Pennsylvania, was denied permission to speak to the 1992 Democrat Convention that nominated Bill Clinton, because he opposed abortion.
His son claimed to be pro-life. I assumed the Dems would allow one token pro-life voter. I see Nelson of Nebraska voted for life, but I don’t think he was the one Democratic token, allowed to vote in a way pleasing to the moderate constituents back home after the whip is sure the vote won’t matter.
But Casey of Pennsylvania proves that there really is no such thing as a moderate or pro-life Democrat. He is a lying, hypocritical piece of scum.
BTW, I don’t live in PA, but if Santorum challenges either Specter in the primary or Casey in the general election when their terms expire, I will send him money. Ditto Toomey.

A lot of votes are going to split this way over the next several years. I guess murdering 1.2 to 1.5 million babies in America isn’t enough for the leftists in the Senate. How many babies do they need to murder before they are propitiated?
A note of interest. In the days before Roe vs. Wade, the estimates of the number of women who died as a result of abortions each year was between 39 and 250. This is a tragedy but is murdering 1.2 to 1.5 million babies instead the morally superior choice?
Murkowski is the daughter of a former governor. Like Caroline Kennedy, but her father was still alive when she assumed her throne.
At this point, we should change the constitution to forbid such familial dynasties in the Senate, House and the Presidency. One Kennedy is one too many. We have had to live through half a dozen of them because of JFK’s untimely death. Had he lived I doubt his relatives could have managed to gain so many offices on their own in view of what would have been a mediocre legacy.
Murkowski, while a member of the state House, was appointed by her father, Governor Frank Murkowski, to his own unexpired Senate seat in December 2002, which he had vacated after being elected governor.

Roe v. Wade has done nothing to make abortion safer. First, prior to Roe, 90% of abortions were performed by an actual doctor, nurse, or other medically-trained person.
Second, it only changed the type of abortion that ended up being fatal and mostly protects abortionists from criminal prosecution, rather than protecting women from quacks and unsafe procedures.

There’s an extreme amount of cognitive dissonance in the left-wing position on abortion.
The typical cop-out position is “I’m not pro-abortion, but I believe women should have the choice.”
What the hell is that? Do these same people say, “I’m against child molesting, but I believe guys in trenchcoats should have that choice?”
And what about the other cop out. “I believe abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.” Which begs the question, “Why rare?” If abortion isn’t immoral, if it is “just a clump of cells,” like an ingrown toenail, then why should anyone care how many abortions happen?
You really have to be sort of crazy to buy into the rationalizations the left offers.
Yeah, I was born and grew up there (Mandan) and could never understand how we voted for a Republican president and Democrat Senate/House. I knew Conrad a little bit – very smart as a Tax Commissioner but very, very lousy Senator. Great people up there but I’m afraid even that is changing. Very disappointing.

Interestingly enough, abortion statistics are not well monitored. Women who suffer complications after an abortion are rarely identified as such in medical records and reporting.
If 1% of women suffer complications from 1.2 million abortions every year that means 12,000 women suffer from legalized abortion. Even if the complication rate is 1/2% then there are 6,000 complications from abortions every year! Safe? Not by a long shot!
Abortion clinics charge $200 to $250 for abortions the last time I saw a figure. That is at least $240,000,000 every year. Murdering babies is a HUGE industry.

With millions of U.S. citizens out of work, millions of homes being respossessed, companies struggling to stay in business and we’re going to be taxed to abort children in other countries. Gut wrentching.
Other than food aid, why the devil are we still giving foreign aid to anyone? It’s nothing more than blackmail and be able to claim we have friends in the world.
