GOP: Time to Get Things Undone

President Obama thinks he knows what the primary objective of Republicans in Washington should be: To “get things done.” Bashing Rush Limbaugh last week, Obama urged GOP lawmakers to ignore the voices of obstructionism and sign on to his behemoth stimulus package: “We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.” Meeting with GOP leaders on Tuesday, Obama repeated his entreaty: “I don’t expect 100 percent agreement from my Republican colleagues, but I do hope that we can all put politics aside and do the American people’s business right now.”
Since when did it become the Republican Party’s top priority to “get things done?” It was as annoying a campaign platitude when John McCain adopted it as it is now coming from President Obama’s lips. History has shown us that “Get Things Done” is mindless liberal code for passing ineffective legislation and expanding government for government’s sake. “Reaching across the political aisle” and “putting politics aside” always entail selling out the right and putting conservative principles aside. How about preventing the damage done by Democrat meddlers trying to get their “things done?” How about getting more things undone?
For the past year, I’ve chronicled the inevitable lard-up of bipartisan bailouts and stimulus boondoggles — and the predictable Chicken Little dance in Washington when these massive emergency “fixes” have fallen short. Contrary to the belief that President Obama is America’s Lightworker who can defy political gravity, H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 guarantees more of the same old borrow-spend-panic-repeat cycle that got us into our current mess in the first place. This is not an investment in America’s future. It’s an unprecedented mortgaging of America’s future — which is why the bill is forever known in my book as the Generational Theft Act of 2009.
The ruckus over Nancy Pelosi’s contraception funding (stripped Tuesday night by the House Rules committee along with the $200 million to refurbish the National Mall) is the tip of the iceberg. Despite President Obama’s vow to prevent earmarks from bogging down the bill, the package is stuffed with goodies for every special interest group from left-wing fraudsters ACORN and other subprime shakedown activists ($4 billion for “neighborhood stabilization”) to Hollywood ($246 million in new targeted tax breaks) to universal health care promotion ($600 million) to dubious “green job” projects ($24 billion). More fundamentally, there is no there there.
On Monday night, the Congressional Budget Office sent out a full analysis of the House stimulus bill — elaborating on the partial number-crunching that were disseminated last week by Republican Hill sources. The new report elaborates on what the first one illuminated: the vaunted infrastructure spending will take years and years and years to kick in. Just 7 percent of the total $800 billion-plus stimulus funding would enter the economy by the end of this year.
The non-partisan CBO tells eternal truths about government spending in the past, present, and future:
Frequently in the past, in all types of federal programs, a noticeable lag has occurred between sharp increases in budget authority and the resulting increases in outlays. Based on such experiences, CBO expects that federal agencies, along with states and other recipients of that funding, would find it difficult to properly manage and oversee a rapid expansion of existing programs so as to expend the added funds as quickly as they expend the resources provided for their ongoing programs.
…Brand new programs pose additional challenges. Developing procedures and criteria, issuing the necessary regulations, and reviewing plans and proposals would make distributing money quickly even more difficult—as can be seen, for example, in the lack of any disbursements to date under the loan programs established for automakers last summer to invest in producing energy-efficient vehicles. Throughout the federal government, spending for new programs has frequently been slower than expected and rarely been faster.
Translation: They can’t spend the stimulus money fast enough to actually stimulate anything other than campaign coffers, media buzz, and bureaucratic paperwork. President Obama asserted that there is no disagreement on the need to Do Something. He’s wrong. Two hundred economists spoke up this week in an open letter disseminated by the libertarian Cato Institute: “More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s,” they said. “More government spending did not solve Japan’s ‘lost decade’ in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today.”
And that must be the message of gimlet-eyed fiscal conservatives in Washington who should wear the “obstructionist” badge proudly. Obstructionism in the name of fiscal sanity is no vice. Panicked profligacy in the name of blind bipartisanship is no virtue.

» We Hear From The Department Of Good Ideas And False Choices

May we be saved from this mess. Strike that, WE need to save ourselves from this mess. Start from the ground up.
Michelle, wish you were my Rep. here in AZ 8th. I would save a ton on Meds and fix the holes in the walls. Bless you for all you do. Calls and faxes go out daily from here.
I think it’s fairly obvious now that this “stimulus bill” isn’t for the economy at all. The only purpose is to “stimulate” the politician’s friends.
Government Stimulation Bill.
Excellent column Michelle. I doubt very many members of the Stupid Party will listen but I will do my part today, during lunch, to contact as many as I can through Twitter.
May we suggest they tax whatever in the h___ it is THEY are smoking? That might be all the stimulus this country needs.
Translation – Just give me everything I want and we’ll get along fine.
This stimulus bill is pure 100% pork.
I always email my representatives. Today I will call, as well. Thank you for the list of numbers.
This is where this blog excels and where Michelle Malkin does some good. This is an action step that people need to take. It’s quick, painless and whatever idiot is supposedly representing you will be made aware that there will be repercussions for supporting this atrocity.
Please, please, please dial the numbers and complain, it will trickle up. Emails work too.
Good line michelle
The familyMan extended network will be making their calls today
What ever happened to Odopey’s Scalpel?
How many times did we hear him say that one in his stammerfest campaign speeches.
Oh by the way…just so you know. The $825B is paid back with interest. Estimates now put THAT final figure at $1.2 Trillion.
Yes folks, that’s a 67,000 mile high stack of One Dollar bills- almost 1/3 of your journey to the moon.
“Obama repeated his entreaty: “I don’t expect 100 percent agreement from my Republican colleagues”
psst obambi you is POTUS now they aint your anything. They are elected by locals and they answer to US not you.
note to GOP ( real ones not rinos )
WALK out LEAVE do not agree to this in any way shape or form. GO HOME and come back when you wont be used as stooge.
If you are fearful of your job and worried about that you aint American anyway let alone GOP.
Are you a leader or a hack?
with love,barbara
AJ,
obambi won so he said, I guess he realized that was too arrogant so he had to do the rushed cocky pimp walk
in front of media yesterday, storming thru congress.
GO HOME GOP and the few American dems that exist, walk out.
back away from the obambi light!!!!
Now remember folks, when you make your phone calls and send your E-mails, be polite. The people on the phones are there to register the numbers and are not there to be your whipping boys.
I believe it’s 40% tax cuts.
Bill,
I wont be calling anyone.
They either know or they dont at this point ( shame on anyone never knew or needed reminding ).
How about they dont get one phone call or one email and all by themselves they do what they were elected to do?
golly can they do that?
is this Pavlovian politics?????
I believe they take the phone call to be a gauge of how their constituents feel. It takes a considerable amount of effort to call a congress person (at least an effort most are not willing to make.) Therefore, if they receive many calls, they figure people are pretty passionate about a bill. From what I hear, emails count for less because they’re easier to do.
Blue,
I would argue that this game of late of people have to call to remind them of the job they were elected to do has gone too far.
They do not need constant cookies to peck at, or to use those who contact them for donation lists to hit up when they run in the future.
NO MORE mass emailing calling if we stop babying them they do what they were elected for or get fired PERIOD.
I dont have to remind my mailman etc to thier job, just why is it again I and you and everyone is asked to remind a politician what their job is?
ENOUGHHHHHHHHHH
do your job or be fired PERIOD
I recently moved and I didn’t know who my rep is, so I looked him up and checked his voting record. Steve Buyer (R) voted no on both TARP and SCHIP – I like this guy.
Bluesoc. Walter Williams has an excellent column in Townhall.com concerning the stimulus package entitled “There is no Santa”. You should read it and learn something.
As far as not contacting your representatives – after I saw how we
stoppedpostponed amnesty, I no longer think is is a waste of time.Well, I know the left practically busts a blood vessel in their brains when anyone mentions Rush, but I am hoping that Obama’s freudian slip of bringing him up will really push the republicans to let the democrats do their own thing and have no part of it. Say what you want, but the truth is people only get angry when they are told the truth, something Rush must do since he angers them so much. Rush gets it right when it comes to D.C. games. The repubs need to take his lead.
Fortunately Representative Jeff Flake (R-AZ 6) is rather fiscally conservative.
Unfortunately Representative Jeff Flake (R-AZ 6) is Open Borders so I am always in a quandary-but he is seldom opposed in either the primary or general elections so I am safe NOT voting for him.
But I am making the phone call.
Not true
Where did your hear that?
Boehner to GOP: Vote against stimulus
Let us be glad President B. Hussein Obama isn’t increasing Government just to increase Government, the lying hack.
Hope and pray that House Minority Leader John A. Boehner can hold the line.
I do not have to worry about my guy McClintock.
I bet there are plenty we DO have to worry about though.
ahahahahhaha, Odopey making fun of someone elses golf swing!!???
What since “he won”" now he’s a golf pro too? I’ve seen his swing, everybody loves Raymonds is better and he stinks. Big time.
CBSNEWS.com has a link from the Drudge Report:
Dems Launch Petition Against Rush Limbaugh…
but the site is down Server too Busy. I hope that is us defending the man and not the trolls attacking him.
I called my Congressman, Paul Tonko, from the 21st District in NY.
I am sure that he will vote for it as he has been a big spender for years in the NY Assembly. He is also one of the richest Freshmen Congressman thanks to his two government pensions!
Even so, I left my comments to urge him to vote against this new “Bail-Out”!
I called Mike Rogers, but if there’s universal health care and / or any money for Michigan in there he will vote for it.
My heart’s not in it this time. The effort against TARP was bi-partisian and it was huge.
I am ready for “Operation Storm Their Castle” now. Anything less isn’t going to excite me.
The only thing this stimulates is my hand to grab the phone…
This spending bill is soooo far to left, why would any Republican vote for it? Lets not make it bipartisan which would give Obama political cover when the economy fails. The Dems control it all. Let them take full responsibility for it. If there are any Republicans voting for it, they should be exposed for the self serving, power hungry, traitors to the free market that they are.
Thanks for the heads up. I told them I also want Obama’s plans to fail. http://www.dccc.org/page/petition/rush
What Republican? Did you see a Republican? Where?
All I saw was a bunch of liberals vaccuming the guts out of America.
It’s an interesting article, but I take issue with one point. It is true that government spending reduces private spending. However, with deficit spending, government is basically shifting the time that spending takes place. The trillions of dollars for the stimulus package would have been spent in the private sector at some point. The problem is, we want it spent NOW, and the private sector probably will not do that. Basically, we’re giving up some efficiency for the benefit of being able to control time. Recession now, boom in the future or less of a recession now, less of a boom in the future. It’s a tough call as to which is the best choice.
I just called Dr. Tom Price’s office, my congressman from Georgia, the nice woman there said the phone was ringing off the hook. KEEP CALLING! Especially you Republicans in Democratic districts.
Plus, call Rep, Gingrey’s office and let him know to lay off the one voice we have in this forest of liberal thought, Rush Limbaugh. i think it’s irresponsible for so-called conservatives to stifle free speech. Obama will be sorry he ever mentioned Rush’s name or for that matter Fox News.
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO its not true!!!!
bluesoc: Can you answer this question???
Where will we get the money? This along with TARP II which is coming, will cost about 2 trillion. Where are we getting 2 trillion dollars from????
Everybody knows that Congress has a money tree out back. That’s where the President’s golden goose likes to lay its eggs. It’s free money, all the time, hoooraaay!!
The only way to truly stimulate the economy, and in an emergency, is to temporarily eliminate capital gains taxes, corporate taxes, decrease government involvement and social program spending to draw business back to the USA. Even that will take time, but it’s a whole lot better than any other alternative.
Anyone, and I mean anyone, that thinks the Republicans should NOT be obstructionists doesn’t know or never studied the history of our Constitution and the creation of the three branches. Opposing parties are supposed to be adversarial. Slow agreement is preferred to a ram rod approach. This was an intent to protect us from the rabble rouser type of emotional passage of bills. God save me from stupidity of others.
“Omnia relinquit servare republicam”
Don’t put your name and email on the Rush petition if you dissent, you may be tracked down by Obama’s civilian security force or liberals will boycott your place of business because you have a differing political view.
Just did it 10 times with names like iheart rush.
shurg, I lose my job at this point and I will just go back to the active army.
As a long time member of the NRA, I’ve been on that list a long time. They’ve never come for me. Guess they figure I might be armed and proficient.
No it’s not. With this spending bill, we are committing our economy to HYPER-INFLATION within three years. Let the free market go through it’s cycle.
Or you may even have to shoot ‘em off your front yard.
…and CUT TAXES!!!
I believe a lot of the first TARP came in the form of loan guarantees. You don’t really need physical paper for that to be good.
The physical money comes from the FED and treasury bills. I don’t know many specifics. Let me know if you have a good site to explain it.
I’ll hold you to that.
Sent strong letters to my congressman and senators.
Does anyone know if a class action lawsuit can be filed to cause Congress to “cease and desist” until sane adults can review this train wreck? How about constitutional amendments for a Fair Tax, Balanced Budget, and a ban on Socialism? Sorry that was foolish, I’m getting over a traumatic brain injury. Sorry.
Ed, I gave them all my info, I welcome the possible attack on me, in fact, I encourage it…. scum sucking pieces of diesel oil outhouse effluence. You Nam vets will know what I mean.
“Omnia relinquit servare republicam”
You have to guarantee loans with SOMETHING. Or when they default, the country goes bankrupt. Are you honestly telling me you don’t know where all this money is being borrowed from?
China is starting to look twice at lending anything to us.
The Democratic definition of “bipartisanship” is when the Republicans do what the Democrats want them to do.
Or we go the way of Zimbabwe.
GOOD!
That giant sucking sound you hear are wealthy people pulling their money out of this country and putting it into hard assets that can not be taxed. The rich people I know have seen this before and are not going to participate.
Can we say “Atlas Shrugged”?
Exactly
Bluesoc, it is not a tough call. The government creates nothing. It can only take from one entity and give it to another, with a finder’s fee for their trouble. The government does not have the money it is planning on spending. It can only get it from taxes, borrowing or printing. All of these choices do nothing to properly stimulate the economy.
Jangar is correct in that the only way to quickly stimulate the economy is to cut taxes, period. The private sector is much more efficient when allowed to operate freely.
Think of Walter Williams visual for the current stimulus package:
Gold, silver, overseas bank accounts, food, guns, ammo. Personaly I have been buying silver ingots for about a year now. They are cheaper for us who have limited monthly income. 100 bucks will get you about 5 of them.
I put my e-mail on, this is great though, the dems are re-energizing the right. I vow to listen to rush every chance I get now, just to spite them. I didn’t really care for him, but I will not sit down while they try to shut down dissent.
Cutting taxes and getting government out of the economy is the only sure path to prosperity. Hiistory clearlt shows us that economic crisis and chaos are directly proportional to federal government involvement. The world economy is vibrant, resilient, and very diverse. Forget reasonable regulation, markets break when people like the US Congress manipulate them for political ends.
Mr. Obama can make himself a real hero if he directs his rabid socialist partisans in Congress to withdraw the bill, cut spending and cut taxes immediately. If he did that, I may actually consider voting for him in four years.
The Idiot American Electorate voted for this. All is going according to plan.
Sincerely,
Osama bin Laden
PS: I’ve placed my remaining jihadist plane fleet in mothballs, since it is clear I no longer need jets to destroy America. All I need is the LameStreamMedia. The perfect tools! Glory to Allah.

I may call anyway, just to annoy the receptionists.
The billions for ACORN is obviously to fund get out the vote efforts. Can buy lots of cigarettes and malt liquor for the homeless and/or people with extra ID with that kind of money.
The DCCC petition allows to you sign more than once. Send encourging messages to rush through the name field.
I don’t listen to the guy but shut him down and who is next?

Tell us how the government can spend money it doesn’t have without causing hyper-inflation?
If you put on ruby slippers, sprinkle magic pixie dust and wish really really hard…..
crickets bluesoc crickets
Thanks for the tip. Sending more.
Should I be buying gold, like all the radio commercials say?
if you have the money gold and silver should be at least a small part of your assets.
I would love to own more gold, but finances being what they are…….
How can a petition do anything to Rush LImbaugh?
If Obama decides to appoint FCC members intent on a “Fairness Doctrine” no petition will matter one way or the other.
The trend towards hyper-inflationary money printing began before Obama even took office, it’ll just go from Argentinian hyper-inflation to Zimbabwean hyper-inflation.
We’re a few years from “New Dollars”, where a Franklin note will buy a “new dollar” that will almost pay for a double-cheeseburger of the McDonald’s “New Dollar Menu”.
Speaking of which – while he’s been busy holding the conservative line against government bailouts and the Left’s bestowal of terrorists’ rights, Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) has neglected to raise campaign funds for his upcoming election. All indications are that Bunning is planning to run again.
According to the Kentucky Enquirer and with time running short, Bunning has only around $750K in his war chest to fight a battle in which KY Democrats – with outside help from Schumer, Reid, et al – are promising to spend at least $10M to unseat him; KY’s lieutenant governor, Daniel Mongiardo (D-KY) is in the lead right now for the Democrat’s nomination.
If anyone out there can see their way fit to help Senator Bunning keep his seat, please do so – he’s fighting for all of us!
These crooked, gluttonous polities are sucking everything they can out of the treasury before the public has time to really understand this massive theft from the taxpayers. This is the mother of all ripoffs.
Truth is a real bee-eye-itch, ain’t it?
I would prefer gold, but silver costs less per ounce so it is easier to stockpile with smaller weekly purchases. 15-20 an ounce vs 850-900 an ounce.
The best we can hope for is Carter-esque stag-flation if this passes.
The Dems are hoping the business cycle ends the recession by 2010, before the “stimulus bill” kills the economy in a bigger way than what we have now, so they get can take credit and keep out the Republicans for two more years, time enough to get the ACORN approved same day registration and voting (so much fraud, it can’t be corrected is the goal) and maybe give full voting rights to all the illegals and lock down their status as a one party totalitarian junta.
Big borrowing means either the government competes with private business borrowers and consumers for loan, or sells more paper to China, and Obama’s tax cheat gloden boy has already cheesed off the Chinese by using the words “currency manipulation”.
That’s a hard call. Commodities are down to. Gold is a commodity, but it is up a little.
Well gold and silver are never worth zero and will probably hold thier value better than stocks or even the dollar. You can also literaly bury it if you need to.
Its a really good backstop against worst case senerios because even if a loaf of bread costs 100,000,000 dollars, silver and gold should remain about the same value vs that loaf of bread.
Thats the theory anyway and compared to the dems magical thinking, it is good.
Interesting. I don’t know anything about investing. It’s only in the last year I’ve gotten employment that provides sufficient income to invest some of it.
Looks like I have some research to do.
National Decay. That stink we smell is rotting morals.
Gold is a good insurance policy, but historically a bad investment. It should be a part small part of everyones plan.
That better be one tasty loaf of bread!

Wow…
If they “go home” they can’t vote the bill down.
======================================================
I have made 4 calls so far. (And sent about a dozen emails over the past 2 days, including everyone best friend here.) Going to make more during lunch. Who has me beat? Lets take it to them.
crickets bluesoc crickets and more crickets.
I have been feeling the need for a good insurance policy this last year.
I called my Representative, Carnahan and told him to vote against the bill. They asked me to spll my name and thanked me for calling.
I then tried to get through to Senators McCaskill and Bond and just got busy signals.
They won’t anyway.
shurg, the dnc has the ball, nothing the gop can do will stop this. Thats why I say start planing for hyper-inflation.
Ah! Emails. I forgot about that. It’s on!!!!!!
Look up Marxist theorist Antonio Gramsci.
Countries with a large middle class with stable family values will never voluntarily choose communism.
Societies structures that encourage self-reliance, the basic units of family, religious belief, conventional morality, need to be destroyed to make the landscape favorable for the people to accept communism voluntarily.

Good
If you look at it that way, you won’t get hurt.
Plus there are no monthly premiums to pay.
every time I read or hear the words “president obama” I get a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach…why is that?
Why is that? It seems the price has been rising consistently, and a National Geographic article last month said that the supply is getting harder to find.
Watch how the stock markets respond to this spending.
The time to buy gold was when it was at $300 an ounce! You can’t invest for what’s happening now. Do your research by looking back. History will give you some idea of what to do!
Craig Crawford on the First Seven Days of Obama Administration is everything fixed yet?

Well my stocks have been “somewhat” hammered. And looking at history and comparing it to where we are now, Its not looking good.
100,000,000 dollar bread in a few years? Its not impossiable.
You are about to vomit.
mattymatt10. Gold has not risen consistently. It goes up and down in value like anything else. It also goes up or down in anticipation of future things. The price is already factoring in inflation. Go back and see the price in the late 70′s and in the 80′s.
Lamar Smith – got through.
Cornyn – Phone bank busy.
Hutchison – Busy.
All my reps voted for the bailout when Bush was in office, if they vote for this one, so help me God they will regret it this time!!
This may sound like a stupid question, but how do I find out who my representatives are for my district?
