    If you read all my posts, you’ll see that I have acknowledged that. With the stimulus package, they’re basically shifting future spending by the private sector to current spending by the public sector. Of course there are costs of doing this (it’s less efficient, there will be less spending in the future). There also might be benefits (ending the recession quicker, causing it to be less extreme). You have to weigh which you care about more.

    Hiistory clearlt shows us that economic crisis and chaos are directly proportional to federal government involvement.

    This reminds me of an example used to show the difference between causation and correlation. The larger the fire, the more firefighters that are present. Does that mean that the firefighters caused the fire to get worse? of course not.

    Some of us have lives outside of MM comment area. Also, I don’t particularly like arguing with you because when you lose an argument, you just start talking about how rich you are and how many degrees you have.

I was being made an honorary member of the House freshman class in 1994, and there was a distinct conservative message, and that distinct conservative message coupled with the fact that not one Republican had compromised his conservatism by agreeing with Clinton’s tax increase, allowed for a great contrast to be drawn, and along with a lot of other factors, the Republicans won the House for the first time in 40 years in the 1994 election. That’s what they are afraid of. The reason Obama mentioned my name, the reason Obama is desperate to have Republican support for this is to see to it that what happened in 1993 does not happen here in 2009, and that is that no conservative alternative supported by the Republican Party is to get traction.

    And that is a big part of the problem. The federal government now has over 50 trillion in “promises” coming due in the next few decades. You can spend money you don’t have for only so long until the bill comes due. We are WAY past the point of insolvency. The money is simply not there. It is not there now and it won’t be there in the future – the “future” money has already been spent.

    Interesting example but it fails to persuade, because you’re not really addressing the heart of what you advocate or what we (as conservatives) advocate.

    Boiled down, you advocate collectivism (Man exists to serve the State), and we advocate individualism (the State exists as a necessary evil to serve Man).

    Every time a country practices collectivism (no matter the flavor or strength) it suffers an economic downturn, a drop in GDP, a reduction of living standards. Russia, France, Sweden, China… name your prison.

    Why?

    Because slaves will always hate the chains you put on them, no matter how you gild them.

    Gild them in eloquence of compassion to fellow man, gild them in the common good, gild them in saving the economy. Make them light chains so they’re barely felt – doesn’t matter.

    Even if they don’t realize that they are slaves, they will still laze around your State-owned plantation. And still hate your guts.

    Yes they are, just not to the right. One of the main reasons is that the left CAN get the phone lines jammed and they don’t insist on getting 100% of what they are after before they will contribute money or get off the couch to vote. The left has organized into unions and Acorn’s and Moveon’s and Kossaks which have perverted the media and the educational system into a cohesive system of getting their own way. This didn’t happen over night but it has happened and the main reason that it has happened is that the right has been OUT WORKED. In that sense even though they are going to be a disaster they have earned the right to have more of a say than the people around here who just call each other RINO’s.

    If we follow this path that obama and his minions have set, I see a dark future ahead that will take alot of work to get out of.

    Well, from what I saw in the last election through today “a lot of work” is out of the question.

    Dasher, that’s just the number. If you read above, it says the area code is 202. The last 4 numbers are room numbers. The columns don’t align very well, so it’s kind of hard to tell.

    No, they don’t pay taxes – they pay into social security. Which is supposed to be used to fund their retirement – just like the rest of us. If you give it back to them now, what are we using to fund Social Security? Well, besides the extra money we’re going to take from those earning over $100k. (Which means that they should technically receive a higher payout at retirement – having put in more).
    It’s income redistribution and you know it.
    It’s also why I’m going to stay home when my baby is born. Better for us to get by on one income and pay fewer taxes then pay for day care or a nanny. Course it’s two fewer people being productive tax paying earners in society (me and the nanny) – but hey – I might as well get in line for my tax cut…right?

    Because our goal is to stimulate the economy, and tax cuts stimulate the economy. Also, the poorer you are, the more likely you are to spend a tax break. The richer you are, the more likely you are to save it. We want people to spend the money they get from the tax breaks.
