If the Republicans suddenly become, like, about fifty times smarter than they’ve been lately… this “Stimulus” Bill could do for them what HillaryCare did for the Republicans in 1994.
By slathering the bill with pork and unrelated spending, the Pelosicrats have provided exactly the opening the Republicans needed. They can now support economic stimulus while opposing this specific bill. The more the public learns about it, the less they’re going to like it.
Did you ever notice that government moves very, very slowly except when the politicians are stealing money from you? Then it’s ahead warp factor eight.
Socky, I made the same point on another thread. This is a perfect opportunity for the Republicans – keep their hands clean by not voting for this garbage and other legislation the dems put forward and people will begin to see the truth and not the lies they perpetuate!
Usually under the cover of night or, weekends.
I’d like the Rules Committee to at least, expect people to have an opportunity to READ a bill before voting. Bizarre right-wing idea, eh ?
BTW Michelle…You had a link on right to gaypatriot earlier. I saw their server crashed. Too many MM readers?
Wow! Two whole frickin hours! Sure putting a lot of thought into this, you poinyoins!
I am sure to our liberal friends this comment is somehow racist hate speech.
Maybe Republicans are FINALLY learning how to govern. BHO’s strategy is pretty obvious: 1) Do a typical socialist massive spending bill under the guise of “stimulus,” 2) try to scare voters into voting for this socialism, 3) Get Republicans to support it, so you can blame them WHEN (not if) this massive spending causes an economic depression
Let’s hope no Republicans support this bill, letting the public know to blame Democrats for this disaster to our economy.
Any Republicans who are NOT helping to stop monstrosity this need to be remembered-forever.
If I were to consider for one moment that some sort of government spending is needed to ‘stimulate’ the economy this year, why would I want to do all of it in one massive bill?
Since everyone agrees that most of this spending occurs on the ‘back end’ of the time frame of this bill, why do we need to allocate hundreds of billions at the same time?
It would seem that the prudent course would be to push through the basic items, like road and bridge building projects first, like in January, then follow up with additional bills for the other items over the next several weeks.
Can anyone justify not reviewing every single item before simply allocating money? Is there a reason to put more than 50 billion in any bill?
The only justification for attempting to proceed in this ‘One Shot’ manner is to hide the absurd pork contained in this bill.
At the least, discrimination against illiterate congress-critters. Maybe a comic book version ? With BIG pictures ?
Should be more sensitive to muslims…Instead of pork…Those who remember c-rations…Ham & Lima beans…
Let’s refer to pork as mutha’s.
YES
Control and power come to mind?
Do I understand this right, 5% of the stimulus bill will go to infrastructure upgrades where those jobs are targeted towards minorities of color and sex? Where do the biggest part of bread winners go when they lose their jobs, being white construction workers and skilled technicians. Unemployment line with extended bennies?
BTW… repcloakroom link above, is down. Must not have anticipated much interest. Or, a DOS attack. Hmmm
If racking up a huge deficit to pay for economic stimulus is “THEFT,” what do you call racking up a huge deficit to pay for the Bush tax cuts?
That was always one of my favorites (saying I have a favorite C-rat is like saying I have a favorite dental procedure). Just make sure you poke a hole in the can before you put it on the truck manifold to heat up.
But I get your point.
Disengenous ?
Huge? Well for that time it was. It was less that 10% of this bill.
You must have eaten well…I traded mine for more enjoyable things. Nuff said…
Exploding c-rats…LOL I remember that !
It’s not a Stimulus Plan. Call it what it is: a Spending Bill
“…pay for the Bush tax cuts…” is an oxymoron because revenues went UP. Just as they did when Kennedy and Reagan cut taxes. We are on the right side of the Laffer Curve, i.e. paying too much tax. Reduce taxes, people and businesses keep more of their own money, they spend more on goods and services, which have to be produced,… you get the picture.
I really get tired of these same worn out, discredited arguments. Cutting taxes has been proven to increase revenue. Period.
Exactly when did this happen? It seems to me the huge deficit was racked up by the stimulus and TARP plans that were presented by the Democratic Congress.
I’ve been listening to the House carp all afternoon and cannot understand how the dems can actually keep a straight face and say” this will create jobs”. It creates nothing but spending with no accountability. Do any of these loons have any knowledge of history?? This is 1930′s and the Carter Carp all over again–didn’t work then and isn’t going to work now.
I’m still calling but the phones are not melting. Keep calling call all of them starting with “A”. Encourage Dems to Vote no and the Rep’s to let the dems hang themselves with their own pork (that line is getting chuckles from the other end).
CALL CALL CALL
beat me to it…that just kinda jumps out at ya does it not?
the plain truth is it’s a Pork Bill nothing else. da leader is paying back, or trying to…what a great time the real Repubs to vote against it, then wait for it to collapse.
*This pork spending bill is going to pass, Nazi Pelosi and Harry Reid will see to that; It’s just that the Republicans need to keep their fingerprints off of it, and for sure call out any RINO bum boys that say okay to socialism; *Don’t give P-BO cover, give him exposure as the full blown socialist he is.
We’re having a stimulus roast for dinner tonight. I can smell it cooking.
Stimulus, the other white meat.
This pork spending bill is going to pass. True even if every single GOPer voted against it and every single blue dog dem did as well, it will still pass.
Sucks doesn’t it? Its like a slow motion train wreck.
Racist!
Income tax revenue increased when the tax cuts took effect.
ECS
Have they tied this into health care yet?
“It’s for the CHILDREN, poor, under insured, uninsured—–
Construction jobs to build office space to house the 687,000 new employees that will gather in circles to pass government forms around, jobs for the unemployed, the uneducated, affirmative action, shiftless ones with an attitude to control admissions and decide if you can have that condition?
How could they vote against that?
I’d suggest the GOP is far beyond the point of keeping its hands clean. They haven’t yet “washed up” from last year.
As any of us could have predicted, it failed.
Red State – The Bush tax cuts improved the economy and resulted in an increase in federal revenues and increased the percentage of income tax paid by the rich. Tax cuts (to people who actually pay taxes)always result in increased revenue and do not need to be “paid for”. The deficits come from spending even more than the increase – mostly on social welfare programs, not the war.
Having ground stimulus here with stewed potatoes and crowder peas – yum yum!!!
Between condoms, STD prevention, and Hollywood bailouts I wonder if we are going to bail out the oldest profession next. I forget – is the oldest profession politics or prostitution?
HA! The hookers don’t need a bailout. They KNOW how to run their business, and tax-free to boot. Congress should be giving themselves condoms. Apparently, there’s so much inbreeding going on there the parties are no longer distinguishable.
BTW…Brothels BEG to be taxed in Nevada. http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/01/26/america/brothel.1-415649.php
They would have got it passed in 2003; but they said they were going to have a photo of the Governor and a sign saying…Give him his share…
