Scroll for updates…Collins falls; Voino a no?…6:15pm Eastern…Reid on floor…will work into night…”I don’t have 60 votes yet…we should outlaw polls..;” 9:00pm Eastern update…No vote tonight…

Buzz on the Hill is that the Senate may vote today on the Generational Theft Act of 2009. Harry Reid and the Dems are desperate to end public debate.

And then there’s this oh-so-important consideration (hat tip: Rob Neppell):

“An analyst on Bloomberg just said the talk in Washington is that the Stimulus bill must pass today because many Senators are booked to a security “junket” to Munich tomorrow. Your govt. at work.”

Crikey.

The Senate GOP wobblers may be conspiring on a disastrous compromise as we speak. Who are they?

I’m told that the Squishy Four are (no surprises here):

Collins (202) 224-2523
Snowe (202) 224-5344
Voinovich (202) 224-3353
Specter (202) 224-4254

Staunch conservative Sen. Coburn is on the floor right now defiantly rebutting Harry Reid’s hurry-up alarmism. Coburn: “Hurry up is what got us into trouble in the first place.”

Call the GOP wobblers. Tell ‘em to slam the brakes. Kill the bill. Stab it. Stick a fork in it. Then start from scratch.

Update: The Hill reports that Reid says he has two Republicans…

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters Thursday that he has enough votes to pass a more than $900 billion stimulus bill out of the Senate.

Reid said he believes at least two Republicans of “good will” would support the Democratic-crafted package.

“Do we have the votes? I believe we do,” said Reid, who expects a final vote on the package will be held on Thursday.

Update: Collins is sold…

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine said Obama, in a meeting with her on Wednesday, had persuaded her that the ultimate bill should be “in the neighborhood of $800 billion.”

“The president did convince me,” she said, adding that she believed the two sides would reach a compromise on the Senate stimulus package on Thursday.

Update: Hill source says latest word from Voinovich is that he’ll vote against it. Managing my expectations of Crybaby George, but it’s a glimmer of Hope…

A reader e-mails that she just got through to Voino’s office and his statement is a bit more squeamy (I know, it’s not a word, but it fits): “He doesn’t support the bill in its present form.”

Update: 6:15pm Eastern…Reid on floor…will work into night…”I don’t have 60 votes yet…we should outlaw polls…” Yeah, damn those polls when they don’t go your way.

Update: 9:00pm Eastern. Reid calls it quits for the night!
