Details of GOP Sen. Susan Collins’ “compromise” “stimulus” proposal are coming out. This is a Mt. Kilimanjaro-sized crock of you know what. Total cost of this “pared down” bill is $1.175 trillion.
Let me repeat that: $1.175 trillion.
This figure does not include the nearly $50 billion added in Senate amendments during the last two days.
So in the name of fiscal responsibility, Collins and the B.O. Republican contingent are selling out America with a plan that costs $7 billion more than the House Crap Sandwich Supreme.
Are we ready to say the F-word* yet?

I have a farm and plenty of pitch forks. Storm clouds are gathering, and not just because of this bill. The government could have accomplished more by giving every person in the country a million dollars.
As I said before:

Congress could have voted to give each and every tax payer in this country 3 million dollars and the would have not even spent a billion, made the entire country wealthy to the point they could have paid off all their bills, their mortgages, and all the other issues, saving all the credit companies and the banks etc., and solved this big issue instantly.
Yet that is just not even in the realm of what they could possibly consider.
It pains me greatly to think that the people of this country went to the polls and actually elected these morons and then only to have them destroy us from the inside.

I wish we could seriously revise voter eligibility in this country.

Whether the bill passed with 41 GOP votes or 2 GOP votes, the fact remains that once again, Republicans splintered and handed the Dems another landmark liberal victory to the Dems. The deal was cut long ago. Had the bill needed 10 GOP votes to pass, the Dems would have gotten those 10 votes. McCain would have probably formed another of his famous gangs in the spirit of bipartisanship. The House Republicans are the ones who deserve our salute, not those weaselly Senators.
BTW can Collins be recalled? Maybe they could re-set her with a real democrat.

GaMidnightRider, I’m way ahead of you. I switched my party affiliation to independent in November 2006 as did many others. GOP registrations were at par with the Dems at near 40% in November 2004. As best as anyone can tell, the GOP registrations have fallen well below 25%.
But welcome to the club anyway! It it very satisfying to not have to explain to anyone why you would be affiliated with such a stupid party.

ScottyDog: Here in CA, the state gov is issuing IOUs to cities, towns and tax payers expecting tax refunds. Cities are returning the favor by withholding payment on its bills to the state. Why shouldn’t taxpayers withhold paying their taxes? No one else is paying anyone for anything.

The funny thing is that I had virtually the same discussion with a friend as to why they didn’t just give us the money. I threw out $100,000 as a figure and and said it wouldn’t surpass 200 million. Apparently we’re both taking the same cough medicine!
