Burning the midnight oil: The Sellout Amendment is here

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 7, 2009 11:29 PM

The full, cave-in “compromise” porkulus amendment of GOP Sens. Collins, Specter, and Snowe finally arrived in my inbox tonight at 11:14pm Eastern.

So, your representatives of the “most deliberative body in the world” have barely a day to digest and debate the 778-page legislative text before rushing to vote on cloture Monday evening.

Like Dave Ramsey says: “Desperate always reap stupid.”

I’m uploading the whole thing for you so you can see it, too.

Get out your hip-waders.

Highlights coming.

In the meantime, make note of this observation from Justin Hart in response to the earlier chart outlining the Sellout Amendment’s bottom-line spending statistics (which I blogged about this afternoon here):

[figures in the thousands]
Agriculture: $5,109,430
Commerce: $21,513,000
Defense: $3,746,000
Energy & Water: $53,843,000
Financial & Gen. Govt: $10,762,000
Homeland Security: $5,076,700
Interior: $11,643,600
Labor, HHS, Education: $169,184,000
Military & VA: $7,428,295
THUD: $60,580,500
Appropriations: $365,629,525 (of course, this one isn’t broken out)

Bottom line: Global Warming, Government Healthcare, Teachers Unions, School Building Contractors, Subsidized Housing, and MASSIVE Pork.

Thanks, Turncoat Caucus.

Update 2:10am Eastern. Invaluable Rob Nepell has put up an easy-to-use searchable version of the “compromise”/Sellout Amendment text online at Readthestimulus.org.

You’re missing the point: We know some mess of a toxic spending bill is bound to pass (some are even counting on it), which is why we want the GOP to unanimously reject it keeping themselves sterile for 2010 & 2012.

As long as the Republicans stay away from it, this bill belongs to Obama and the Democrats; so for the sake of victory in the next election cycle(s), we want the Democrats to rock it!

With today’s nitwits in Congress they would probably open the envelope with the tea bag and freak at the sight of “an unknown substance”, shut down the building, send in the hazmat team, track down the “right wing wacko”, have the MSM destroy the person, hold congressional hearings, then ban tea bags as hazardous material.

That thought occurred to me also. But, if thousands of us did it all at the same time, they would know it was a protest. At least, I think they have a few brain cells left, but perhaps not.

Take a step back and look at all this activity. Don’t you think Mr. Steele sees this same thing? Don’t you think he knows that if the RNC has a chance to raise any money the RNC has no choice but to stand up against this bill and these 3 Senators? If he doesn’t, money is simply going to dry up. I find it hard to believe he doesn’t get that. Going to be an interesting week.

As much as we would like our Republican leaders to do the right thing for the right thing’s sake, that is wishful thinking.

However they may do the right thing for the “other” reasons. So we have hope if only for these two reasons.

    1. Money. Will be a huge plus OR minus for the RNC. Standing up will be a huge plus. Caving a huge minus. This is not one of those “maybe” it will or won’t have an impact issues. It WILL have a huge impact one way or the other.

    2. Politics. The Republicans in the Senate will either act in a way that makes themselve totally irrelevant for at least the next 2 years OR they will take a long term view and realize THIS is the watershed issue and they will either be washed up and lame ducks for 2 years OR they will be in the game.

Of course there is a chance if this thing can get read in public that its details are so bad that doing the right thing for the right thing’s sake still has a shot. I’m not counting on it though.

I’ve been watching the Sunday morning news shows and no one is defending this bill. That was true this morning on Fox Sunday and on Chris Matthews. The consensus among libs and mods (no cons on these panels) is that Obama just messed up big by turning over the stimulus bill to Pelosi right out of the gate. Not only that they make it impossible for Republicans to sign on to this bill, it also upset a large number of Dems.

Also, from Michelle Norris (black liberal): 82% of those losing their jobs are men, mostly white. Not a ripple from anyone. That is mostly who watches these shows BTW.

Where is the GOP leadership in all of this? Where is the outrage? I don’t want to hear from McCain, McConnell, Graham, Boehner, Steele or any of the old RINOs anymore. Let’s hear from true believers who still have fight left in them borne of conviction, not empty showmanship.

Happy scrapper: It starts at the top. Let’s get a real RNC chairman, not just a fashionable black Bush clone. There was another fashionable alternative available but the RINOs prevailed.

The Senate is a lost cause so the RNC will have to focus on getting leverage in the House which is chock full of true conservatives. Vitter, Cantor, etc… The Senate, which still has the numbers to filibuster any bill, will have to follow the leaders. It’s not perfect but the key is for the GOP to demonstrate conviction in a credible manner. We can’t work with this current arrangement of dinosaur RINOs in the RNC and Senate.

Let’s at least move on and try something new. The gangs of McCain and his girl friend Lindsay Graham (not to be confused with the ageless beauty Lindsay Wagner) and the rest have zero credibility and look old and tired. It is pathetic any way you look at it.

Sorry but that’s the world we’ve always lived in. The selling point of conservativism is directed precisely at that value statement. The very best way I can get the very most of what I want, the very best way I can have a chance at the life I want for ME, is for there to be less government, more liberty. The consequence is when left alone to have the best life I can pursue for myself, the benefit is guess what?, you have the best life you can have for YOURSELF.

So I’m sorry but “what’s in it for me” is an okay thing and is one of the foundations of conservativism. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is for ME, not for YOU. However as I am left alone to pursue life liberty and happiness, you are also free to do so.

Gateway Pundit has this up now:

CBO Predicts Recession Will End in 2009 Without Stimulus

CBO anticipates that the current recession, which started in December 2007, will last until the second half of 2009, making it the longest recession since World War II. (The longest such recessions otherwise, the 1973–1974 and 1981–1982 recessions, both lasted 16 months. If the current recession were to continue beyond midyear, it would last at least 19 months.) It could also be the deepest recession during the postwar period: By CBO’s estimates, economic output over the next two years will average 6.8 percent below its potential—that is, the level of output that would be produced if the economy’s resources were fully employed (see Figure 1). This ecession, however, may not result in the highest unemployment rate. That rate, in CBO’s forecast, rises to 9.2 percent by early 2010 (up from a low of 4.4 percent at the end of 2006) but is still below the 10.8 percent rate seen near the end of the 1981–1982 recession.

He also has the reminder that the CBO said the stimulus would actually hurt and not help the economy.

    Tell Congress that!

Between the two major parties, I don’t think either truly practices pure conservatism/liberalism… it is more along the lines of elitism/populism.

    In today’s political climate…

The current Democrat party practices social elitism and economic populism.

The current Republican party practices economic elitism and social populism.

That’s why when a true conservative who consistently acts on conservative principles shows up on the scene, neither the current crop of Republicans nor the current crop of Democrats know how to react/behave… other than with totally irrational responses.

This is a gigantic swindle of the American people…very much like that what’s-his-name who bilked thousands of people out of their life’s savings. No difference at all.

Yes, Federal funding is suppose to be unbiased – but this is the hope and change administration. You seem to have forgotten: BO won the election. But don’t worry – I’m sure he will remind you again and again until you get it.

Barack Obama [is] at the epicenter of an incestuous stew of American radical leftism. Not only are his connections significant, they practically define who he is. Taken together, they constitute a who’s who of the American radical left, and guiding all is the Cloward-Piven strategy. Obama’s associates are all radicals, firmly bedded in the anti-American, communist, socialist, radical leftist mesh. Obama is associated with black separatist liberation ideologues, domestic terrorists, Palestinian radicals, Kenyan mass murderers of Christians, and both Moist and Marxist communist radicals. Although Obama now tries to distance himself from them, now that he is running for president, they were all his mentors, allies, friends, contributors, associates and supporters. They befriended him… and he befriended and socialized with them back.

The public knows next to nothing about them, and this is quite alarming considering that the Media is not doing the necessary work to expose them. To examine these relationships is not smearing, it speaks to his true intentions and ideological perspectives. Barack Obama, the Cloward-Piven candidate, no matter how he describes himself, has been a radical activist for most of his political career. That activism has been in support of organizations and initiatives that at their heart seek to tear the pillars of this nation asunder in order to replace them with their demented socialist vision. Their influence has spread so far and so wide that despite their blatant culpability in the current financial crisis, Capital Hill politicians now claim to be able to fix the problem with HOPE AND CHANGE.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama plans to expand the membership of the National Security Council and increase its authority to set strategy on a wide range of domestic and international issues, The Washington Post reported on Saturday, quoting his national security adviser.

The council, which was established after World War Two to advise U.S. presidents on military and diplomatic matters, would become “dramatically different” after the overhaul, national security adviser James Jones told the paper in an interview.

“The world that we live in has changed so dramatically in this decade that organizations that were created to meet a certain set of criteria no longer are terribly useful,” Jones, a retired Marine general, was quoted as saying.

He said sections of the government not traditionally part of the council would be brought in on a case-by-case basis—he named the Energy Department, Commerce Department and Treasury, and all the law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“New NSC directorates will deal with such department-spanning 21st-century issues as cyber security, energy, climate change, nation-building and infrastructure,” the Post said.

Jones said the new structure would be outlined in a presidential directive, probably in the coming week.

Perhaps Obama’s promised non-military ‘National Defense Force’, funded as well as DoD, aka Saddam Barack Hussein’s Dreaded Republican Guard, would answer directly to him via his National Security Council.

The truth is they get money- and he gets power, the problems are never fixed but his power grows.

The original reason given for forming ACORN has little resemblance to what they represent now!
Acorn are the core players of his and the DNC political enforcement branch now, and funneling of any public money to them should be criminal!

    Hear, hear!!!

The COLB “proof” that Obama provided…

    1) …Is not the same thing as the original birth certificate, and does not show the name of the hospital where he was born. Obama has never provided proof of the hospital and attending physician at his birth. Obama and his sister have given different hospital names as his location of birth. No hospital in Hawaii has any record of Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, being a patient in their hospital around the time of Obama’s birth.

    2) …First appeared on Daily Kos along with “Haye I.B Ahphorgerie” (”Hey! I Be A Forgery!”)

    3) …Was rightfully suspected of being a forgery.

    4) …The “hardcopy” was produced at the Obama Campaign headquarters, not by the State of Hawaii, and was only shown to a small, controlled, friendly audience.

    5) Neither the Daily KOS image nor the hardcopy were ever “verified” by the State of Hawaii.

    6) No Hawaiian official ever went on record saying that Obama was born in Hawaii.

    7) Both the Associated Press and Annenberg Political Fact Check published LIES that were then distributed far and wide and were believed by many people, including our beloved hostess Michelle and my Republican Senator.

It baffles the mind how Obama was able to pull off this fraud in plain sight. Congress inspected one certificate from Hawaii (the certificate of the Electoral Vote), but never inspected the other certificate from Hawaii (the certificate of live birth for Obama). Pay no attention to Obama’s grandmother who says she was present at his birth…in Kenya! Pay no attention to Obama’s admitted British citizenship at birth (because his father was a British subject, not a U.S. citizen). Pay no attention to Obama’s Indonesian citizenship or his 1981 travel to Pakistan on a non-U.S. passport.

We now have a Marxist usurper as Saboteur-in-Chief.
