I am proud to have Eastern KY hillbilly blood-lines on both sides of my pedigree. Some of the finest folks I know hail from those parts. I also had the privilege of living in Western KY for a few years and have some really good friends from that end of the state.
Country folk’ may speak with a southern accent, may not have a high school diploma (let alone a college education), but they will give you the shirt off their back (after they feed you a good meal). Salt of the earth.
Those upper-crust, Ivy Leaguer, ‘blue-bloods’ can choke on their brie and caviar. Give me the ‘fried chicken, grits & gravy’ crowd any day of the week.

jag5775…I feel your pain. We were out 2wks after hurricane Andrew and about the same for Katrina. Our situation was opposite of yours. We were in sweltering heat, with nearly 90% humidty with unrelentant mosquitoes. My heart goes out to all of you. We will be praying for you.

Oh yeah.. Here’s a story over at Sweetness and Light. Katrina victims may be facing an end to their federal rent aid programs. Katrina struck in 2005… and they’re still getting aid while Kentucky doesn’t get jack.

I saw this story yesterday. Unbelievable. These are the people who give us all a bad name.

Contrast that with “the Big Easy”, LA, or pretty much anywhere else people have bought into the myth that the government is there to take care of them.

Not everyone in LA. The people in our community took care of each other. Don’t believe everything you may have seen or heard in the media.

As per et #5 and hunter #9: Where do you put the generator? We got hit with a blue northerner and the temp dropped to 9 degrees. Since no one was home at the time the water wasn’t left running. By the time I got home, the water was off. I called the pump man and was #99 on the list to thaw us out. 5 days later–our ice plug was thawed out, even though the temps had returned to the 40s. It is a bit more complicated than just turning on the generator.

Note to self… when the revolution/civil war starts… head to Kentucky. After this episode, no one in Kentucky should care much for Obama. And they’ve proven they can take care of themselves. But then again, why do I need to worry about the little pansy liberals where ever I am.

Yesterday (Friday) someone on Fox (Bill Hemmer?) was talking to Kentucky’s Lt. Governor and pressing hard on the problems we’ve all heard of and the Lt. Governor was basically saying everything was hunky-dory as far as government response, Obama declaring it a disaster area, the biggest mobilization of generators ever…I told my Mom, wonder what party he is…looked it up and yes, a Dem.

These Western Kentuckians are some of those bible clinging, gun toting rednecks according the “One”. Our local electric power company has sent three crews up to help these people get their power back on. We had a similar ice storm 10-12 years ago, and the Kentuckians were here to help us. We overcame our ice storm and with God’s help we will help the Kentuckians to overcome theirs. Hang in there, these are the people that made America great.

helping themselves rather than sitting around waiting
for handouts. These are the kind of people that my
family descended from…self sustaining (as much as
possible/neighbor helping individuals) and I make no
apologies about thinking that the gimmee side of
society is just not as desirable as these people from
Kentucky, Arkansas and such states.

I have been watching with some amazement on all the MSM news channels – Why are all of those inbred Kentucky hics shooting at the rescuers who are flying in on the helicopters to save them?????

And I just dont get it as to why there are roving bands of hoodlums shooting at the police/National Guard and looting their neighbors!!?!?!!?

HEY!! If you people want help – then dont try to kill the people that are there to SAVE YOU!!
