Porkulus math: A breakdown of Collins/Nelson stimulus changes

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 7, 2009 02:16 PM

We still don’t have the actual, full text of the Collins/Nelson porkulus “compromise” plan, but we do have a financial breakdown of the changes the cave-in Senators have proposed. The Senate Conservatives Fund has posted the math — and remember, this chart does NOT include the money added by the Senate amendments (close to $50 billion in extra spending).

Go here for the PDF.

Bottom line:

Senators Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) have said repeatedly that their goal was to eliminate those parts of the bill that are not stimulative. But this document shows that this spending has not been eliminated, but only reduced. If this spending does not stimulate (and it most certainly does not), then why not eliminate it completely?

And if the goal was to simply lower the price of the plan to protect taxpayers, the Nelson-Collins deal fails in that effort as well. At $827 billion, the compromise will cost $7 billion MORE than the bill passed by Nancy Pelosi in the House.

    I found this very interesting…

This year, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will focus on the return of Jesus Christ and help prepare believers for life in the last days, according to a recent announcement.

“People ask me, ‘Do you really believe that Jesus Christ is going to come back to this earth again?’” writes the Rev. Billy Graham in one of the several resources that the ministry is providing on the End Times.
“Yes, I do,” he continues. “The Bible teaches that Jesus is coming again.
And I don’t see any other hope, because we’re heading toward a catastrophe in our world.”

I get tired of hearing liberals say things like “The pork in the bill is only like 2%, so why hold it up for that?”.

My question is, how much is too much for these liberals? What is the threshold percentage-wise that they will allow? 5%? 10%? 50%? Or does it depend on which party is in charge?

2% this year, if we let the government get away with it, will turn into 3% next year, and 5% the year after that, and etc etc until/unless the American people say enough is enough.

0.000000000000000001% of pork is simply way too much.

Why not just write a check for $2,722 for every single citizen in this country. It would cost the same and stimulate the whole thing…..

contact the members of the U.S. Senate listed below. They include the ten most conservative Democrats in the Senate, plus the Independent, plus a Hillary Clinton’s replacement who showed signs of conservatism. If you live in the states represented by these Senators, please both email them and telephone them!

HR1 is pending approval in the U.S. Senate and they will have just enough votes once Senator Kennedy returns from Florida. If any one of the people on this list votes against the bill, the American people will have more time to see what is in the $800 ‘stimulus’ bill, and express their opinions to their Senator.

Like HR1, when you skim through the SCF doc linked above, you keep asking how does this stimulate anything or create jobs? Answer: Don’t ask silly questions…it will create 3-4M new jobs. The One says so.

If the senators are taking Sunday off, how can they assimilate this monster mess before voting Monday?

Keep up the calls and emails to the senate. Its still close.

Let’s see the bill. Show us da money!

Actually, he later said “create or save” – an interesting backdown, considering that there is absolutely no way in the world of knowing how many jobs are actually “saved”, so no matter what happens over the next few years, he can claim he “saved” jobs.

The Senate recently began debate on an economic stimulus package that is intended to get our economy get back on track and help Americans who are suffering through these difficult times. Unfortunately, the proposal on the table is big on the giveaways for the special interests and corporate high rollers, yet short on help for ordinary working Americans.

I cannot and do not support the package on the table from the Democrats and the Obama Administration. Our country does not need just another spending bill, particularly not one that will load future generations with the burden of massive debt. We need a short term stimulus bill that will directly help people, create jobs, and provide a jolt to our economy.

Please join me in saying no to this stimulus package as it currently exists by signing the petition to the right and telling your friends about our efforts.

    John McCain
    Chair, Country First PAC

And don’t bother reminding me how he was an American hero. It’s said people change with time and he is no exception…the end of that story.

I spent 4 months negotiating to purchase an automobile, it took that long for me to reach a “deal” that made sense to my purchasing sensitivities. I saved $4,700.00 of MY money. Why are these irresponsible clowns so inclined to commit My money to worthless financial issues? and spend a week or two at the most to ensure that we are getting a deal on an unidentified “crisis spending issue”. Time for some change, hopey change, get rid of all these idiots and require them to recite the preamble, the constitution and Bill of Rights 100 times from memory as a requirement of the swearing in process.
