Strike back at tax cheat Tim Geithner
Are you up for a cathartic act of civil disobedience? DaveG at Where’s the Change? has a subversive plan. I like it:
I think it’s time for a comeback for civil disobedience. The only thing that angers me more than the rampant elitism and corruption in our government is that apparent tolerance for it that was demonstrated most recently with the appointment of what is almost certainly a tax cheat as the Treasury Secretary. Surely I am not alone in wondering why I am a big enough sap to pay tens of thousands of dollars in Federal taxes each and every year, while our Washington bureaucrats seem to get away consequence free with a pattern of cheating and fraud. And please, don’t tell me Tom Daschle didn’t get away with it. Sure, he lost his position for a cabinet position, but don’t you think he will be laughing all the way back to his millions-a-year “consulting” gig? Will he be prosecuted for his fraud like I would be? Did he pay any penalties? No, and no.
Since my single, solitary vote is nothing more that a BB in a machine gun world, I intend to start practicing civil disobedience. In the case of Treasury Secretary Geithner, I am going to have a rubber stamp made that says “Tax Cheat!” in block letters. Every time I see a piece of paper currency with Geithner’s signature on it, I am going to stamp over his name with my Tax Cheat stamp. Sure, this action is just as futile as my vote, but eventually maybe others will reach the same conclusion that I have: it is far past time to make our voices heard.
Dave has a link to an inexpensive stampmaker at his blog, or you can go to taxcheatstamps.com — until, that is, Dear Leader and Dear Treasury Tax Cheater move to shut them down.

I will most definitly get one of those and carry it with me always!
I will most definitly get one of those and carry it with me always!
Perfect!
Wish I had thought of it-
Cheaters never prosper except when
tax cheats are allowed to prosper…
I wonder how many Dems have their returns insulated from audits the next few years?
I LOOOOOVE it! I just bought mine. Can’t wait to get stampin’
Yep, you can have those made right here.
Fantastic idea.
If what the IRS deems is too many claimed auto miles is enough to flag an audit, how about a few well documented and publicized tax evasion cases? Not to mention, confessed! Surely that’s enough to trigger an audit.
Maybe Timmy and Tommy will be getting theirs in the mail soon?
*crickets*
To bad we can’t stop paying our taxes, but I don’t want to break the law.
Someone who fails to comply with the law…isn’t that the definition of “criminal”???
Is it legal? ‘Cause if it is I’m on it. This is awesome.
Could it be our gracious Missus Malkin is getting a little pissed herself?
I would go one further and state that we should just stop paying federal taxes when possible. State taxes can be scrutinized after we pay the cops and firemen…
Guess I should read the thread before I repeat a sentiment huh?
Sec. 333. Mutilation of national bank obligations
Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.
I guess if it is fit to be reissued, then it is okay.
Oh, good. This ought to be fun. Thanks for that.
Why don’t we all get one of those rubber stamps and mail it to him, with a note saying he should use it in place of his signature?
#1) Didn’t a bunch of Wall Street banks and investment houses already violate this by “rendering evidence of debt (toxic TARP assets) unfit to be reissued (requiring the government to buy them)”?
#2) In a related story, it’s perfectly okay for the US government to “burn” money thorough “unfit” spending programs.
Fun idea, but not nearly disobedient enough.
We need to get this idea VIRAL on the internet. I so love it. Everyone buy the stamps and begin stamping. I wonder how long it will take before his bills begin to circulate?
You’d better have barrels of ink, because they’ll be printing money like there’s no tomorrow (and it’s hard to think there is) for the “stimulus.”
I ordered a self inking stamp from the link on this guy’s blog. It was easy. I put a symbol in front of TAX CHEAT, which is a stop sign.
So my stamp is a
STOP SIGN and then the words the TAX CHEAT all in red. HEHE, this is going to be fun
So my bills are all going to read:
(STOP SIGN) the TAX CHEAT
all in RED!!!
Don’t start stamping bills indiscriminately. Paulson’s name is on most of ‘em right now, not Geithner’s.
I am so ready for this revolution.Time for WE THE PEOPLE to take back OUR COUNTRY.
I would think that the act of putting this tax scofflaw’s NAME on this “evidence of debt” would be sufficient cause to “fine or imprison” him. But, then again, a precedent was set not long ago when BO’s face was printed onto the coin of the realm and sold as historic souvenirs. Isn’t there some law about defacing coin also.
I think that all of these big
sh!tsshots not paying taxes and getting away with it will encourage folks to institute their own “tax cuts”, since the Democrats unintentional “transparency” has revealed that it’s only the suckers who pay.I’ll have my sent to Mr. Geithner to remind him of the errors of his evil ways.
For Paulson you should use a bigger stamp–”Where is that damn money?”
As a self-employed person, I like my idea a little better of holding back as much tax as possible and paying it at the last minute. I have a medical excuse for last year so shouldn’t suffer any penalties. If there was a concerted effort for an Atlas Shrug, I would certainly participate and starve the bastards.
While the sentiment of this is right, the problem is it will only wind up costing all of us extra in the longer run. The treasury will just take these bills out of circulation whenever they find them and print new ones costing the taxpayers money.
Now with that said – if it does cost any of the “ruling class” a bit of “face”, then it might be well worth it.
I doubt it’d cost any particular congress critter much “face” – but Obama and Geithner – it might.
Now how about Daschle?
Just ordered mine.
I wonder how long it will take for the freaky leftist to notice and demand action? My guess would be no later than the 4th of July. (Yes, I think most of them are “slow”).
I would also suggest that any of us that routinely pay taxes, do so late, with the disclaimer we are adopting the “Geithner-Daschle-Rangel-Killifer-Solis” defense.
The idea of spreading protest information on currency is pure genius. Bills so marked will pass through many hands and provoke curiosity, which hopefully will lead to a chain letter-like spread of more marked bills. It won’t be long before people will know what the stamp is about, and be on the lookout for marked bills. In some circumstances the marked bills might even increase in value and become collector’s items. We need more innovative thinking like this.
Ok, 2 stamps then. “Tax Cheat” & “Fraud”
I’m in! I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen. I’ll keep a red pen handy until I can get a stamp. I’d like better for a couple 10 million or so of us not to pay taxes at all, they can’t put us ALL in jail. Let me know when you’re all up for that say April 2010?
If this hasn’t already been suggested, why don’t we all get a photcopy of a real dollar or some funny money & stamp it with the “tax cheat” & send them to him.
Outstanding!
Its a place to start.
Well, I suppose you could make a case that putting Geithner’s name on the note is defacing it…or worse, devaluing it. If the purkulus flies the dollar dies. Buckle up for double digit inflation again.
Sure, defacing currency is illegal, but when the left starts screaming about this, just point them to the Obama coins. They are defacing actual currency and selling it for a profit.
If you combine this with wheresgeorge.com you can track where these bills go.
Will this prevent the quarter machine at the car wash from working?
Excellent!! –
No shame No gain in P-BO’s admin.
I’ll have several different stamps. One will read “Obama’s CHANGE”
While I understand the sentiment, isn’t defacing of Federal Currency a Felony?
Why yes. Yes, it is.
My collie says:
Cash stamp protest. One of my cash stamps will read “Obama’s Change”
I don’t know what makes you people think you are going to have any money to stamp! When the dems finally get the unions into every business you will get nothing but a welfare card loaded with your amounted spending allowance. (no doubt decided by who you voted for)
I took some bills that a bar had collected over the years and had plastered all over the walls and ceiling – the owner decided it was time to donate them to our charity. They had all kinds of stuff written on them (good, bad, vulgar). They had tape all over them.
The Bank took them and then turned them back into the Fed for credit. They were STILL USEABLE, hence, no crime, I guess.
I’m no lawyer, but I’m just sayin’….
By the way, I see $ bills, etc., written on all the time – a phone number, a name – and as mentioned above, WheresGeorge.com.
Thats what King George III said.
At least for now they still have to prove it was you.
they’ll just get the illegals to round us up- again doing the job Americans won’t do.
I love this. We need to fight back. Seems like calling isn’t doing the trick on the stimulus so maybe this will work. . .need to think about what I want imprinted on it though. I like “STOP tax cheat” but thinking about “IMPEACH tax cheat.” Decisions, decisions, decisions.
I hear the calls for something stronger- Okay how about this: Start a petition that demands mandatory audits for all federal and state governmental employees, starting from the most senior on down. Would it be legal to state in the petition that the undersigned refuse to file or pay their taxes until the people imposing the taxes are audited and pay theirs first? Then again, it might be worth the risk to point out this turd in the punchbowl.
Why not? Here in Lee County FL they had the illegals building the new jail!
I suggest we send Geitner this.

Remember…if one buys a stamp, then there is a trail to the buyer – email address, credit card info, ?phone #, ?home address, etc, that could at least get one onto Big Brother’s radar screen.
However if one handwrites “tax cheat” with the left hand, for righties (’course, with the right hand for lefties); then, not only is there no “purchase trail”; but, as far as I am aware, handwriting experts would likely have no chance to identify one’s handwriting.
Just make sure nobody sees one write it, and that one never tells anybody else about it.
(Okay, now preview works…!)
I got a letter from the IRS last week saying that they were going to levy my bank account for 1500 dollars in two weeks from tax year 2006.
There were no questions, or contact us, or whatever (they sent those to me several months ago and my accountant and I were responding to them promptly as requested).
Bottom line is that I do NOT owe them any money. I have paid them completely and fully along with any EXTRA ‘penalties and interest’ (how they determine what this is is beyond me – it’s stealing).
Anyway, I called them angrily and demanded that they fix this. After speaking with an obviously overworked woman, she finally said ‘oh, well it looks like that letter was sent out in error before another letter was just sent out saying we are going to look at it again’.
I was SHOCKED that the federal government could just send me a letter with my bank information on it and just say ‘we are going to take your money’. I am thinking of suing for mental anguish and harassment because THEY WERE AND ARE WRONG!
I sure wish I had a business where all I had to do was send people letters telling them I was going to take their money and there was nothing they could do about it.
No taxation without representation indeed. DC is going to mess up and not have any money to spend. I’m seriously considering suing.
The IRS should really consider very CAREFULLY when they send out letters the way a bank robber would address people. They in no way shape or form should have sent me that letter saying they were going to take the money.
I have paid my tens of thousands of dollars too. The problem with this one was with THEIR records. They had me listed as both business and personal. That confused the person I called when she asked, is it your Tax ID number or SSN? I said the letter HAS BOTH! THAT’S THE PROBLEM! That’s what we have been telling them the problem is (OVER AND OVER).
I am VERY angry with the federal government and the IRS. I’m for any form of Boston Tea Party that anyone can think of. For some reason the DC politicians think that being elected means they can spend and take as much money as they want.
That letter that I got from the IRS helped me understand what it means to live in a ‘free’ country. Unfortunately even voting doesn’t make me feel free in a country that sends me a letter telling me they are going to rob me.
The problem with suing the government…the actual perpetrators of the mess don’t get hurt. It doesn’t cost them anything. The rest of the taxpayers pay you.
If you could sue the individuals then something might be accomplished.
This is brilliant idea. First, it is certain to go viral as soon as Geithner’s name starts appearing on bills. It won’t be long before tens of thousands of people are doing it, and it will become rare to find a bill without the stamp.
Second, it won’t be prosecuted! Prosecution would only would make the government appear even more foolish while garnering vastly more publicity. If they do attempt to prosecute, they will suddenly rediscover an old concept called “jury nullification” (see http://www.fija.org). Juries will refuse to convict, and that will increase publicity by three orders of magnitude. The population will realize that there is a safe, highly visible method of peacefully protesting.
I predict that Geithner will not last more than two years. It just depends on when bills with his name start showing up in significant numbers. Now that this idea is out there, it can’t be stopped. And the Obama Administration will not be able to tolerate being laughed at.
Just change your name to Geithner, Rangel, or Daschle. And just to be safe, change your party to dem.
Bought mine! Can’t wait to start stamping!
Not bad, except it should read:
Obama’s tax cheat
People need to remember how these thugs and crooks are getting the job.
May I make a plug for an online site that often offers free products such as rubber stamps?
vistaprint dot com
I just bought mine. Great idea!
Fantastic idea!
I absolutely LOVE this!!! Everyone I know is going to hear about it.
It’s a cute idea, but it’s terribly flawed in that the Treasury Department will be headed by the target of this dissenting prank.
He will simply order the money that is “damaged” or “defaced” to be siphoned off by the Treasury, & destroyed, anytime they have a defaced bill come through. They are even authorized to have banks do their bidding in that area. It is unfortunately within the treasury dept’s authority to do that, & they’ll just pass the cost of printing replacement bills off to us taxpayers, just like they do with everything else.
To me it would make more sense for conservative groups to buy Billboard space in major metropolitan areas, & post some Billboards that outline his malfeasance..
Uh no – this could send you to prison.
Here’s a new Boston Tea Party.
I wouldn’t cover the name, though. Stamp below the name so everyone knows who the tax cheat is.
Geithner has already disgraced his family name.
If I were him I would not put my family through this kind of humiliation.
If he has any decency left he would step down before his name is etched on any currency die.
Who knows though, with the new lib morality in Washington!
If you use the stamps, remember, your “intent” is NOT to have the currency removed from circulation, but circulated so all can see. (Transparency don’cha know!)
The Obama coins on the other hand, are a violation of the Code, since the “intent” is to make them “collectible,” thus, taken out of circulation.
You do not need to buy a stamp to protest. Just spend 5 minutes with Microsoft Word or Publisher to dial in the correct word placement. Then feed Federal Reserve Notes through your printer, kind of like the gubbimint does, only different.
I wonder how long it will be for some freaky leftist to hold up entire checkout lines as they go through their bills then demanding they be given their change with unmarked bills.
OK, I woke up. Leftists will be paying with their welfare cards.
If this catches on (and I think it will), expect a Federal Bill sometime soon, which will “Ban the manufacture and distribution of rubber stamps or other printing devices (physical and/or digital) which can replicate – either in part or in its entirety – the words “Tax Cheat”.
(Might be a good time to stock up on a few good pens. Or Sharpies…)
Looks like Marion Barry is auditioning for an appointment in the BO administrations.
It was on Your World w/ Cavuto today (3/9/2009) that the creator of the stamp is being audited by the IRS.
