    Sounds like Daschle is forgetting the important part of the health decision equation, that is, the patient. My son has to have a surgery on his knee, and my husband and I have been researching and getting various opinions before we decide which is the best option, I certainly don’t want some faceless bureaucrat deciding what is in my son’s best interest.

    Quite a change from the mid70s, when I was in med school.
    Even though the rot and weirdness had started to seep in, we were still taught that the patient’s condition was very much more important than his age, as a factor to consider when deciding among treatment courses.

    We were taught that an 80-year-old’s chances of making it to 100 were a hell of a lot better than ours were!

    I’ve not renewed my AMA membership because that organization lately seems to have acceleratingly become virtually socialist.
    They seem to want socialized medicine.

    I suppose that this bill will accomplish what it sets out to do. People who are sick and need care won’t get it and they’ll die off, thus saving costs from future treatments.     You don’t really believe that do you? Look at how things work today. You or me goes off a bridge and kills some poor young girl and don’t report it for several hours, what happens? Jail now, jail later, likely jail forever more.
    You get caught red-handed (so to speak) having relations with and making a mess on the clothes of someone that works for you, you get fired and possibly sued in civil court.
    Don’t pay your taxes. Claim “I forgot”, or “I misunderstood” or, and this one really gets me, “The software I used made a mistake” like at that income level you wouldn’t have an accountant.

    Those writing the rules seem destined to be exempt from them in one way or another. Rules like paying taxes on time, obeying the law, etc. are made for regular folks, not the ‘elected and bureaucratic elite’.

    I have a doctor, a good one that I trust. I have decent insurance that I pay for. I am of reasonably sound mind and don’t need or want some knothead at the insurance company telling my doc what to do, never mind some faceless bureaucrat using some dumba$$ formula.

    Good grief. My next thought was “Leave me alone”. I’m starting to sound all “John Birchy”.

    It is just that system which cost me my career and many other things, as after I fought for over a year to have the one surgical procedure on my back that would save my career, I was finally granted it. However, the very day I was to begin physical therapy, the PT’s office called to say it was canceled by my employer. the reason? The third party guys decided that I had already had PT in the past and thus I was not entitled to it again, regardless of the fact that it was a post-op issue. The result? My back healed incorrectly and lost my career. The third party has also declared I can no longer see any more surgeons as I had already done that and “it didn’t work”, I can not have therapy or any other treatments other than pain management…which is on a monthly approval.

    There is even more to it than that, but that is the “Reader’s Digest” version.

    This little clause, cleverly hidden away in the middle, will cost human lives BY THE THOUSANDS as they decide the cost of life-saving treatments are not worth it based on your age and any pre-existing conditions. They will cancel any and all experimental treatments as well as destroy R&D as it is the thing that drives up the costs of health care, thus people will not be able to get the care they need.

    This is your Democrat Party folks. These are the people that claim it is the Republicans who don’t care, who want your kids to starve without school lunches, who are denying people SS etc. Daschle is on record as wanting the elderly to die because they are using up precious resources for the young.
