From market-based to “savior-based”
Bravo, Gov. Mark Sanford, for this on-target description of how bailout-mania has transformed and damaged this country:
As many state and local officials clamor for their share of the billions of dollars in federal aid in the stimulus bill under consideration in Washington, South Carolina’s Republican governor is sounding a note of dissent about federal efforts to help the economy.
“A problem that was created by building up of too much debt will not be solved with yet more debt,” Gov. Mark Sanford said Sunday, making a reference to the federal deficit spending that will likely finance the federal stimulus package.
“We’re moving precipitously close to what I would call a savior-based economy,” Sanford also said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.
The South Carolina Republican said such an economy is “what you see in Russia or Venezuela or Zimbabwe or places like that where it matters not how good your product is to the consumer but what your political connection is to those in power.”
“That is quite different than a market-based economy where some rise and some fall but there’s a consequence to making a stupid decision,” Sanford said after pointing to the powers granted to the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve to help deal with the current economic crisis.
“A lot of people who’ve made some very stupid decisions are being bailed out by the population at large,” he added.
I don’t know if Gov. Sanford intended his “savior-based” quip to be a play on the cult of the Obamessiah, but either way, it’s a brilliant diagnosis.

My Brother works with a group in Birmingham Alabama that has a crisis hot line and they are getting calls wondering when Obama is going to pay for their mortgage and utilities. He says the callers are serious about what they are asking…are people really that stupid?

What a relief. It is SO comforting to know that those of us designing and building the airplanes no longer have to worry about making certain that the airplanes stay in the air. Comforting for the passsengers too. Stimulating the economy is the last thing the Dems are concerned with. Rather than using the normal budget and appropriations process to fund their social programs, “green” energy policies, abortion rights, “good money after bad” education funding and all the rest, they see this economic downturn as a crisis not to be wasted as Rahm Emmanuel so eloquently put it. This is an opportunity that doesn’t come around very often – every 70 or 80 years maybe – where they can get their hands on taxpayer money and push the “reform” they are wanting without having to waste their time with the legislative process regardless of what the people want
If they were serious about stimulating the economy, the funds would go directly toward that end and not the nefarious programs and organizations like ACORN and the Unions they are trying to reward for their support.
I guess y’all know the YouTube link to that woman who voted for O because she assumed he would pay her bills, or get someone else to, has been removed from the web for “terms of use violations.” Not stupidity, mind you, but terms of use.

But, I still seriously wonder whether the wonderfully, remarkably coincidental occurrences of the fuel “crisis” and the financial meltdown weren’t orchestrated and coordinated by George Soros and other socialist tycoons, and their minions, to take place at the just the right time before an election to have their maximum effect.

I have never been a strong Millennialist, Premillennialist- not that I disagree but that I do not or have not seen where it fits in. I did always know it would someday-hopefully later than sooner. But as I watch Barack Hussein Obama, the worshipful faces of his congregants, the rise of islam and paganism I think time may be short. When I see the broad acceptance of corruption, disintegration of the family and abortion on an industrial scale I fear that we are at least more New Canaan than New Jerusalem.

So, can you explain where obamas going to get this money from? Obama is on track to increase the debt by 20% THIS YEAR, and thats if he doesn’t try anything else. Thats OBAMA not bush.
I don”t think Democratic President Obama really cares about stimulating the economy at all. He just wants to get it passed quickly so he can seize power. Its obvious the Dems have created a crisis. Out of the mouths of the Chief of Staff about not wasting a crisis. I think it was a combination of Scheumer’s letter that forced a bank run that culminated 5 or six years of coordinated chaos. Political correctness is now being written into law with taxpayer money and obvious debt. Don’t think the democrats really planned it though. Just in a hurry up mode because it surprised them that they were able to talk the economy down to crisis level. As Newsweek says we are now a socialist nation. If you love your freedom its time to control the chaos and use every tool you have to fight for your future. Your freedom really depends on it.

I agree more than half of the votes counted represent stupidity, however, legal votes, I’d guess the percentages are much closer to 50/50. How many dead people votes were cast, how many double votes were cast, how many illegals cast votes? I’m willing to wager that it’s a 10:1 swing a single direction. I’d guess it adds up to something non-significant.

First off, the Republicans were not in charge for decades, the Democrats were. Secondly, President Bush and the Republicans in an honest effort to work with the Dems presided over the “Prescription Drug Plan” and the “NO Child Left Behind” plan that was mostly written by their Democrat co-sponsors.
After the war began, the Dems played politics with the funding, forcing President Bush to agree to larded up bills to assure funding for our troops. The Republicans have been cowards for years, not trusting the core principles of conservatism in their desire to remain relevant.
The people who post on this site have been opposed to a great deal of the spending by both sides for the last several years. To imply that we are now hypocrites just shows your ignorant desire to attack instead of defend this shameful money grab for Democrat payback.

my school district just recieved the news that chrysler is closing it’s greedy mean cash cow, otherwise known as the chrysler assembly plant. replacements are urgently being sought, so of course they are looking to tax the acorn thugs and those wetback laborers. if only they can translate those addresses on the voting roles (third park bench from the porta potty) into street addresses so they can mail out the bills.
It looks to me that Sanford is a likely Republican presidential candidate a few years down the road. He makes more sense than the entire congress and white house combined. Could be that Palin and now Sanford join the ranks of what promises to be a truly outstanding group of Republican conservatives.

As much as I hate seeing where this country is headed I have no fear because I know God is in control of the past, present, and future. The Bible states that he put leaders in place and removes them at will. I almost have the feeling that we are reaping what we’ve sown over the last century plus. The market needs time to reset itself and our country needs to take a long hard look at how far we’ve strayed from the intentions of the Founding Fathers. God’s will be done!
