If you follow me on Twitter, you saw my comment earlier this afternoon about the savior-based moment in Ft. Myers this afternoon between President Obama and a woman named Henrietta Hughes — who demanded that Obama give her a home with her own bathroom and kitchen.
The entire event was like a revival meeting. Naturally, I’m already being attacked as heartless for questioning the entitlement culture. Wrapping up a column on this for tomorrow.

I was listening on my XM radio and the whole thing at times had the sound of an old time southern tent revival with people shouting out. Not amen and hallejah but close enough.
Also it was so scripted as far as the questions being asked. The questions went from one topic to the next with no backtracking, no same question asked twice and each covering the talking points he wanted to pontificate on. First housing, then education, then jobs and climate.
They ought to run the credits at the end of these things like any other Hollywood production, giving credit where credit is due.
The difference between Obama and Bush is that Obama doesn’t have to pre-screen to get people like this. He’s actually popular.

One positive outcome from the Obama phenomenon is that working Americans will get a stomach full, a real wakeup call, as to what socialism truly is and the horror it represents for our future. Most 19 yr olds work crappy jobs at places like McDonalds. That’s why you’re in college, so that in a few years you’ll hopefully be qualified for more than that crappy job. And working your butt off for low pay and no benefits should motivate you to pursue something better on your own, not stand around asking the gov’t to hand you a better deal on the backs of others.

After WWII my folks worked an apple orchard in NW Arkansas where they also raised chickens, grapes, and three boys. When they moved into the house on the orchard they dragged a hose upstairs and literally washed it from top to bottom and a great deal of the water went though the gaps in the walls to the yard outside. My Mom recounted how the first bath she took at the property was accomplished by dangling a hose over a tree branch and, standing there in the yard, she showered.
They lost the orchard when the owner reneged and sold it to his brother. My parents never extended their hand for gubbmint help. They worked other jobs (note the plural) and made something of themselves.
Now, tell me how this woman who is living in a car has it worse than my parents?

Yes, let’s blame education. There’s an excellent plan. I seem to remember other comments here about personal responsibility and hard work. Perhaps that extends to parenting children who respect authority and work hard, instead of complaining about teachers who have rules and expect students to follow them.
Of course, there are plenty of teachers who are unhinged, and Mrs. Malkin has called them on that. But I think it’s quite the stretch to equate the current economic and government situation with the state of education.

Where is the children’s father(s)? Why are they not supporting their family?
Why is he homeless? Drugs, alcohol?
Is he really a vet? Does he have a DD-214 or does he claim his service records were lost or destroyed? Or, did he work on such classified projects that he doesn’t “exist” in any government records?
If he really is a vet, I would tell him to get to the nearest VA center. There are PLENTY of programs already in place.
I watched a man run through traffic on a busy street in DC one afternoon. Problem was, he was begging for money while wearing a dirty old fatigue jacket and limping quite convincingly only that morning while carrying a sign reading: “Injured vet, Please Help. God Bless”.

OK, just heard Obama says Ft Meyers had the highest foreclosure rate in the country — Sure does, when the job market went bust the Mexican illegals high tailed it out of town, and left empty houses everywhere. By last count one area there had almost 20,000 foreclosures.
I notice Obama didn’t say why all the foreclosures were in this one area, where all the illegals were? I am left to wonder why…
Giving no money down home loans to illegals and other people who couldn’t repay, how is that working out for you now, America?
Ok, who’s in charge of rounding up homeless folk and handing them tickets to “Obama Town Hall and Tent Revivals”? A woman living with her son (how old is he? why isn’t he working?) in a pickup truck gets a seat front and center for a big town hall meeting that the rest of the country didn’t even know was going to happen today? A 19 year-old “college student” says he’s worked at McDonalds for “four and a half years”? Child labor law infringement, or stupid liberal plant?
Did you see the camera flashes going off? The PHOTOGRAPHERS in the media were TOLD this was coming. I work as a photographer. It’s 95% dumb luck when it comes to getting a great photograph. Somehow, every news agency will have a great photo of Obama hugging this woman, accompanying the headline “Homeless Woman Asks Obama a Question, Gets House.”
I’m sick of this… I’m sick of living in “Handout America”. The Thompsons could have given this woman their house ANY TIME IN THE LAST YEAR if they’d wanted. Does she live in his Congressional district? This is a political stunt, that’s all, but to the black population, it’ll make Obama look like a hero when he’s really done nothing at all!
Again, how does a homeless 61-year-old woman just HAPPEN to get a front row seat? Who do we ask to find out how long they’ve known about her plight?
BTW-the property taxes assessed on the $150k home being “given” to her by State Rep Nick Thompson’s wife (how many homes do they have?) will likely bankrupt her completely. Does she have a job? Can someone from FL tell us what the property tax is currently?
I don’t see this country surviving more than a year as a Federal 50-state entity at this rate! We cannot fund these socialistic programs without collapsing the Federal gov’t under too much debt, yet it’s like Obama doesn’t care. They don’t teach Economics at Harvard Law, do they?
