   Before any lib trolls come after me for “lacking compassion,” let me say that my husband was out of work due to layoff for 18 months between the end of 2004 to mid-2006. We struggled to pay our bills and keep our home during that time, while my 50-something spouse diligently looked for a new position. Over 500 resumes and applications, and lots of overt ageism later, he finally found a new job, which he loves, but we had to relocate all the way across the country for the job. It never once occured to us to run whining to ANY government official to “help” us. By the grace of God, we “helped” ourselves. No government bailouts, no bailout from family members, no food stamps, welfare, Medicaid…nothing but the two of us doing all we could to hold things together until “better times” came about. Gee, what old-fashioned nonsense, huh?

   Joe the Plumber wouldn’t have been necessary if John McCain actually ran a decent campaign. Obama’s fairy dust didn’t work on Wurzelbacher, and Obama accidently revealed his true, long-term motivation behind his candidacy: “Spread[ing] the wealth around.”

   The MSM didn’t take up the cause of forcing Obama to address his own words to JTP, it was the conservative blogosphere. Once it caught fire, and McCain started referencing Wurzelbacher, the rest is history — Obama supporters in Ohio government dug up stuff on Wurzelbacher and fed it to reporters.

   OTOH, what do you know about Peggy Joseph, the Sarasota woman who said if she took care of Obama, he would take care of her mortgage and gas? You know nothing, because conservatives in government in Florida didn’t make a point of it to punish her. And while we may give Julio the once-over he deserves for being an Obamagodder, I don’t think many (if any) of us want to ruin the guy’s life just because he’s a doofus.

    c. Giving an interest-free loan to a person in need.
    d. Giving a grant to a person in need.
    2. Giving tzedakah anonymously to an unknown recipient via a person (or public fund) which is trustworthy, wise, and can perform acts of tzedakah with your money in a most impeccable fashion.{Note from T: I DO NOT TRUST THE Gubberment to perform this function, but they suck the money out of us on pain of penalties and prison.}
    3. Giving tzedakah anonymously to a known recipient.
    4. Giving tzedakah publicly to an unknown recipient.
    5. Giving tzedakah before being asked.
    6. Giving adequately after being asked.
    7. Giving willingly, but inadequately.
    8. Giving “in sadness” – it is thought that Maimonides was referring to giving because of the sad feelings one might have in seeing people in need (as opposed to giving because it is a religious obligation).

    Just a factual note to start off. She claims that the wait list for public housing assistance is 2 years. I don’t know the specifics in Florida, but I do know that number is about right for other states. Anyways, it does appear that she “got off her butt” and applied (or at least considered it).

    Second – whoa there. Who said anything about wanting to take care of her because she’s black?

    Also, I think you should take a couple of deep breathes before posting again. There seems to be a lot of rage in that comment.

    Concerning this subject. I feel for homeless people as there are circumstances that can sometimes be beyond a person’s control.

    But the government has no right to decide who deserves my money more than me.

    We will know everything about her in less than 72 hours. Once she takes ownership of her new house her whole life will be an open book. At that point we will be allowed to conduct a background on her and i bet money we find out that she has a past that is not so clean.
    My point is like others have tried to tell you. We are tired of this victim mentallity. If you do not take responsiblity for your OWN life do not ask me too?
    I have a question for you bluesoc. Did you go to college ? If so did you study hard? Did you make good grades or did you party all the time? Let’s just say you did study hard (for the sake of making this understandable), and made a grade point average of 3.8 all the way through till your ready to graduate. Days before graduation you are offered a great job because of your grades . You accept the offer because you feel all the hard work YOU did payed off. The day before graduation the school calls you in and says they are going to give half of your grade point average to a student that failed everything and partied all the time. Then you get a call from the company that you acceptted the job from. They tell you because you did not have a 3.8 average but rather a 1.9 they are no longer wishing to employ you. Now you find out that the guy who got you grades got you job also.
    Does this sound fair ? Sounds like socialism to me. That is what this entiltement crap goes to. I do not beleive in welfare nor have i ever recieved unemployment. If i was ever layed off i found another one. I would shovel s#$t if i had too and i have cleaned stalls to make money while going to college. I worked hard and i beleive in the American dream of if you work hard you will be rewarded. Sometimes it is not the hollywood story we all wish for but their is a reward if nothing more than knowing you did your best.
    I do not live in a 100,000.00 dollar home. I and my wife bought our place for less than 50,000.00. we have 10 acres of land and my house is old. But it is mine and i have the pride of knowing i did not and will not ever have to say anyone helped us get it.

    You are correct that the progressive tax system (and welfare state), to an extent, create a disincentive to make more money. But the only place where that really has a great effect is around the extremes of the brackets. It places no upper limits on income or wealth. You are also correct that, to an extent, it creates an incentive not to work. But if the incentive were as extreme as you seem to suggest, you’d expect that no one would work minimum wage jobs. To do so would be irrational.

    This isn’t accurate. The Bible doesn’t say “don’t work”. Here’s what it does say:

    if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.

    There is a distinctive difference between unable to work and unwilling. Peggy Joseph was a clear example of the unwilling crowd. I don’t have enough information to know whether Henrietta Hughes falls into the unwilling or unable category.

    Now if a person is unable to work, the Bible does tell us that we are to help them out.

And we have plenty of historical precedent to show that having the government usurp the role of voluntary charity is a Really. Bad. Idea.©

    No one “got” her a house; someone is letting her stay in it.

    Does that solve her problems, whatever they may be? No. She will still have no job, no way to pay basic living expenses.

    As for the end of your post, that is the most preposterous thing I have ever read. I believe Jesus was all for charity to people who are down on their luck, but He was not quite so charitable to people who were not even willing to try to do for themselves.

    Don’t just let this woman stay in someone else’s house; help her get a job so she can start being productive! That is, if she’s willing to work.
