Italian adventure: What is on Nancy Pelosi’s mind right now?; Update: House vote expected at 1:30pm Eastern
Why is Nancy Pelosi rushing, rushing, rushing to get porkulus passed before the end of the weekend? The gal’s got her priorities. Here’s a hint from the ANSA Italian News Agency:
Rome, February 12 – The speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, will be in Rome next week for talks with top Italian officials focusing in the global economic crisis and other leading issues. The first woman to hold the third-highest position in the American government, Pelosi has played a key role in pushing through the economic policies drawn up by the administration of President Barack Obama to combat the global recession.
Aside from economic questions, she is also expected to review bilateral relations between Rome and Washington and cooperation between the two countries in regard to the environment and leading international issues, including the situations in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ample attention is expected to be paid to Italy`s agenda for its rotating presidency of the Group of Eight (G8) this year.
Details of Pelosi`s agenda have not been given in full but it is known that she will arrive Sunday night and on Monday morning she will pay a courtesy call at the Quirinale Palace to President Giorgio Napolitano, before going to the Chamber of Deputies for a meeting with her Italian counterpart, Gianfranco Fini, which will include a working luncheon.
In the afternoon Pelosi is slated to make an address in the lower house on future security challenges, after which she and Fini will hold a joint press conference.
The ways and means of combating climate change will be the focus of a conference she will address Tuesday morning at the American Studies Center, where she will be joined by
former premier Giuliano Amato.
The US House speaker will then be Premier Silvio Berlusconi`s guest for lunch.

Good to know Congress is going to pass a giant pork bill in the name of stimulus that has almost no infrastructure in it, almost no tax relief for working Americans, very little new job creation, and all kinds of hidden advances for socialism, without a proper reading, because Nancy doesn’t want her taxpayer funded flight (I’m sure) delayed by even an hour or two.

I can only hope that 3-4% of the country now realizes that “Hope” and “Change” was a bill of goods and that liberal Democrats are nothing but big government loving, taxing and spending, hypocritical bunch of losers like they have always been.

Berlusconi was cool but he was an aberration. There is no expectation that we can every get any lasting cooperation with them on ANY issue to include the time of day. But San Fran Nan is a pantload in search of a place to park…she’s hell bent and it won’t go well over there. She’s an outsider in a totally insular world of their incomprehensible politics. She must think “Pelosi” means something to them heh heh heh.
She might even get victimized by more than purse snatchers and butt pinchers, there is still an active Red Army Faction and untold #’s of jihadis roaming the turf there.

What disturbs me the most is that in all of the pork laden amendments and earmarks of this ’spendulus’ bill, no where was there any consideration for assistance to the Veterans, homeless and/or disabled, who have given so much for our country. The VA is over their heads, with too many severely wounded, as our combat corpsmen and doctors can now do so much in the field to save a life. Our veterans with severe mental hardships are left to fend for themselves on the streets, sleeping in boxes because the VA can’t afford to help them. Thank God for at least NYC’s heart felt response, obviously the view of the Democratic Congress is that a mouse deserves much more consideration than a veteran – Thanks

Everyone should understand this – she is not going to conduct foreign policy. Europeans already agree with her politics. She is observing the way things are here so that the US can be modeled after them – Double digit unemployment, socialized medicine (where they resist giving antibiotics in favor of “holistic” methods which really are a sad attempt to save money, government control and ownership of business and a true glass ceiling for people who aren’t from the right family or disagree with the political mood in any way.
I could go on and on but, in 5 years over here, the simple fact about socialism is that the most people can aspire to is mediocraty. The real truth about Europeans is that there are two types of successful people here:
1. Those who’s family created their success (who your daddy is means a lot here) and 2. Those who left Europe and used capitalism to make enough money to return above the ceiling.
This is what the Dems want. A mediocre existance for 99% of Americans and an elite class that everyone else accepts as necessary to run the country (i.e. DemoCommie politicians).
Foreign policy it ain’t.. It’s future Domestic policy. Much more scary.
