I don’t think the turncoats have anything to do with it anymore, do they? They were needed for cloture and to stop a filibuster. Now only 51 votes are necessary, right? Or can the Reps still filibuster if they don’t have 60?
Joy, under Senate rules, they need 60 (i.e. 3/5ths of all the duly-sworn Senators) to pass it.
10:20 pm Eastern and no sign of Brown. Hopefully he had to divert to, say, Pittsburgh.
Betcha he doesn’t show.
I think he set Pelosi up to make her look like a fool…which isn’t difficult.
One minute to go, is Brown going to show?
He’s showing; Obama sent a USAF plane to pick him up and fly him into (I presume) Andrews.
It would be funny if he turned into a Nay vote though.
Reid’s up on the Senate floor presumably extending the vote some more.
Wait a minute, I just re-read that. The White House supplied him with a plane? Like one of those evil horrible private jets they just castrated those CEOs for using? Why couldn’t Brown fly commercial? Huh? Too good to sit with the great unwashed?
its 10:32 by my atomic clock, its over, close the damn vote.
Does anybody know what the current vote is?
smfoushee
Is there a time limit that is actually being exceeded?
I apologize, I do not know the rule.
The last scheduled plane into Reagan National from Ohio, specifically Dayton, left at 7:43 and arrived at 8:45.
hunter,
No idea, but if they were going to leave the vote open until 10:30, that time has passed. Then again these were the same people that said we’d get 48 hours to look at the bill, somehow I think Democrats need new watches.

Hey, easy! Recall that the military oath is to uphold/defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic–not the federal government and professional politicians.
And you should still be proud of your 24 years. Depending on those dates, you were part of the Army during some interesting times when military service mattered.
(I just got back from a trip, and have not read the intervening messages. Sorry if I have missed to good comments on this matter. I’ll be getting to them after I hit “Submit Comment”.)
There’s 59 ayes right now – all the present ‘Rats/Socialists (which excludes Brown and Kennedy) plus The Blunder Maine Twins and Scottish Law. Senate rules require 3/5ths, or 60 votes, for passage.
So does this mean he COULD have flown commercial?
Wouldn’t that be something if time ran out and the bill failed, of course that won’t happen, but can you imagine the look on Piglousi’s face when she gets the word? lol
#118….we definitely can all dream and pray that is exactly what happens…when do we all get a European vacation besides on DVD….
smfoushee
Thanks
And I think the original time frame for reviewing bills was 5 days, but they are not quite ready to deploy that yet, they are working on it though!
Change we can believe in!! Hope!
UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH
WOW 3 weeks on the job and I gots to get out of here for a break.
Obama never took responsibility for anything. I Still say the guy won’t show. Obama want’s to hang this mess on Pelosi – Then he will look like the Hero!!
Highly doubtful. I don’t know where in Ohio he was, and judging by the time frame, even if he were in the Dayton area, he wouldn’t have made that flight.
Of course, the proper thing to do would have been to delay the vote, but the ‘Rats wanted to show who has the cojones on Capitol Hill.
And Pelosi will look like the fool.
Brown – aye.
Porkulus passes; nice knowing this country.
Wow, you really are a newcomer aren’t you! How do you expect that stupid b!tch’s face to ever change.
F!!K it just passed.
Good luck everyone, lock and load.
CNN is reporting it. Brown cast the 60th vote.
Then let the bill die due to their own incompetence. If these morons can’t even manage a simple thing like a vote, how can anyone trust them to spend $800 Billion dollars?
Nuts
damn
As far as I’m concerned, Arlen Specter is Public Enemy #1.
I’d pray but I’m in shock.
rightisright
I apologize for the newcomer remark, I did not even read the name; you just laid one right done the middle and I jumped on it.
Now looking at the vote, good luck and stay safe.
Now I hope Obama craps on Specter.
Message to Michael Steele: PURGE THE PARTY OF THESE TRAITORS!!! GET PRIMARY CHALLENGERS AGAINST THEM AND GIVE THEM NO MONEY!!!!
Spare me the “big tent” blather. This trio broke ranks in order to facilitate the destruction of the very ideas of America, free enterprise, and liberty with their pals, the fascist Democrats! Since they are now caucusing with the Dems, THROW THEM OUT OF THE PARTY and give the Dems an honest 62 seat, one-party majority. Don’t let Obama get to claim this was bi-partisan.
senate pass crapola bill…60-38….
welcome to the USSA folks….patting themselves on the back for the wonderful job they’ve done….
http://www.clig.net/images/middle_finger_flame.jpg
That’s the only thing he knows he didn’t win. He knows he has no real desire to achieve true bipartisanship. He’s counting on the unwashed masses to fall for smoke and mirrors.
If you need a little pickmeup these Marines are going to keep doing what they do>

WOW! That is one awesome image!
Well folks, we Americans at least for now and the near future are slaves of United Socialist States of America.
hunter, apology accepted, I can understand your frustration, we all have on this site about now. The comment I made was meant to look at the shock value on her face…I did think about saying it’s impossible for her to scream her face won’t stretch anymore.
This will cheer you all up, the new N.Y. Senator the one with a 96 % NRA rating, has changed her opinion about gun control…maybe she was in the Stupendus bill got paid off also.
Thank you rightisright,
By the way, about gun control, check out HR-45 if you have not yet.
I am not really worried about it, because if they were to pass it, I do not think they will get anyone to go out and try to take everyone’s guns away. If they are able to find people for the job, it will be only a few, and the ones that do will soon realize that it is a dead end job (pun intended) or they will no longer be a burden on society.
*Give some cred to the GOP members in the House and Senate that rejected this bill that is doomed to failure as far as reviving the economy; And communicate to Michael Steele that he needs to primary Specter out in 2010 and Snowe in 2012; I will put up money just to see them have to fight for their political lives.
*Remember too that P-BO, Nazi Pelosi, and Harry Reid own this pile of bacon bits and they will be further discredited(if that’s possible)as more of it is exposed to the public.
*Stay engaged, as Michelle does daily, because P-BO will continue to step in it while the country remains a majority center-right country; More and more people will come to recognize we are being led by a Carter with a tan who is a true marxist, and they will begin to clamour for a Churchill with a plan; The pendulum still goes both ways, so keep the faith.
#115 some of us have taken notice of the “natural born citizen” clause.
So they sent a plane on taxpayer dollars to get someone to complete the vote to hose all the taxpayers.
Nice…now if they would give us paper cuts and pour lemon juice on them the cycle would be complete.
need to convince the little woman about the need for a gun before they pass laws not allowing me to own one
The one thing that might have created jobs, a temporary federal tax credit for the state sales tax on a new automobile purchase, got stripped from the final bill.
Hugh Hewitt was talking about the $8 billion for the LAX-LAS Maglev train. He predicts all will be spent on environmental impact studies and legal fees, California is wacky about the environment to begin with, and the train would cross several endangered species habitats.
Karl Rove suggested this may be setting a pattern, Obama voting “present” as Chief Executive. Tells Pelosi he wants a spending bill around $700 billion, not to exceed $800 billion, which immediately becomes the target to exceed, and leaves all the details to her.
I’m still enraged at the treason trio. Not a penny for the national party or Senatorial Campaign Committee if Specter will see a penny of it in 2010.
Damn you RINOS. If just one of you had the courage to say NO this would have failed. I can’t wait to see you out of office.
J H T D C!!!!
mikeeg –
This is one of those times you just do it. Buy two and when the time comes she’ll want to learn to shoot too. And she’ll thank you.
there is a special place in hell reserved for the traitors 3 .
I hope they get there real soon like.
Maine and Pennsylvania went democratic in the vote November, voting for Obama. I guess these 3 are more interested in getting re-elected than helping the country. Nothing new with politicians.
No concern over the carbon footprint for Brown I see. Weird how this carbon footprint thing works.
Well folks, the other day I bought my very first gun. I lived in this great nation for 45 years and never before felt a need for a gun, but that “changed” last November. I cashed out my stocks and bought gold, and increased my exemptions on my W4 to get as much as I can on my paycheck.
Tonight I weeped for my Republic, my beloved country that died.
We have been disenfranchised by both parties in our government. We have a government that governs without the consent of the people and “We the People” have been disenfranchised. They are not our representatives anymore, but our rulers. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. Our congress is nothing but a new Soviet Politburo that will rubber stamp everything the “Dear Leader” requests.
Hard times are coming. A great struggle is coming. The new American Civil War is coming. Until then, “Who is John Galt?”
P.S. If I was a member of Congress, I would be looking over my shoulder. They may find a few shoes thrown their way. Hopefully they will be steel toe boots.
my feelings, exactly, havok–my father would have put it this way: why don’t they just rub our taterholes raw with a corncob & pour turpentine on it?
Silver lining watch:
Senator Arlen Specter is one of only three Republicans to support the economic stimulus bill in Congress, and the latest Rasmussen Reports survey in Pennsylvania shows that his position is costing him support back home.
Where’s the Valentine’s Day thread? We need another topic for a bit before we reload.
I do hope that the RNC and Mr. Steele will endure some short term pain for the long term benefit and remove these 3 from any role or the Republican caucus. They are voting like Democrats anyway so give them over to the left. What harm will it do?
If Steele does nothing, the cost in funds being raised will be high.
Sounds crazy, but I’m just about to the point I would go to jail for a long time. I appreciate America that much, and something drastic needs to happen to save it.
Happy Valentines Day jangar.
Now reload.
Is this for reals?
http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm
It kinda smells.
Same to ya!
Rifles: Check, check.
Shotguns: Check, check, check.
Pistols: Not necessary…doubt anyone gets past the above.
I guess the one good thing that could come of this Ed, is that it will piss the whole country off enough to vote all these fools out next term.
And if not, the America we knew will then be no more.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Mrs. Boomer was very happy with her ammo, shooting accessories, and card I presented her with this morning.
For those still needing to arm up I discovered some pretty wicked shotgun shells at the local gun store yesterday. The Lellier & Bellot SB Buck Shot 12 gauge 2 ¾ inch 00 has 12 pieces of buck shot instead of the standard 9 pieces. It comes in a 10 shell box, which was priced at $9.99, but the owner let me walk away with the 5 boxes I bought for $8.00 a piece. I have a feeling I will be going back for more in the very near future.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: Come and take them!
That would make a better group.
That’s a jury I wouldn’t want to face.
Allahpundit doesn’t want the Treason Trio booted from the caucus, or punished in any way, because they will join the Dem caucus, and we won’t be able to have the filibuster.
With all due respect, if the Treason Trio wouldn’t filibuster this, they won’t filibuster anything, there is no filibuster, the Dems have a super majority. Whether it is 58 or 59 official Democrats and 3 Democrats in Disguise, or 61 or 62 Democrats, it really doesn’t matter.
McConnell seems like a nice guy, but if he isn’t willing to play the parliamentary tricks like demand a full reading of the bill, that would have delayed it an extra two or three days and given bungwipes like Specter time to absorb that he is losing support in Pennsylvania, not gaining it, well, maybe Dr. Coburn or Senator DeMint or someone with a bit stiffer backbone should lead the caucus.
“…because they will join the Dem caucus, and we won’t be able to have the filibuster.”
I believe they were counting on that as cover. Despite what short term pain it may inflict, the long term gain will be well worth it. They need to be asked to leave the Republican Party and join whatever party they wish.
If this vote does not cause that response/consequence, it will make the RNC meaningless as well.
Tell me why we had to hurry this up? Obama is not signing it until after the holiday? Why couldn’t everyone taken this 1000 page stinker, read it over the weekend and vote next week. Obama lies the people….. well? hello! Bueller…. Bueller…….
Are we gagging yet? I’m choking on something.. what could it be? Barney Frank? eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I love America!
In the interest of transparent government; who paid for that roundtrip flight and why aren’t the Green people outraged?

If anybody is still reading this, and knows anybody in DC….there is a protest scheduled. The protest against “porkulus” is Monday, Feb. 16 at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle, 401 Pine Street, in the open area by the big arch from noon to 3 p.m.
Although the chances are slim that they can pull this off, somebody has to try something. I can’t afford to fly to DC on such short notice, but if anybody lives there, please…….
Marco Polo: can’t be there where do I send my proxy????
Tonight on FNC there is a program “Trillion with a T”–will be worth watching. They are going through the bill as much as possible for what is and isn’t in it.
ANOTHER VALENTINE’S DAY MASSACRE
Because Barry has to perpetuate his pubescent boy crush on Lincoln by signing his historical legislation on Presidents’ Day. What could possible be more important?
they won’t simply ban guns they will take guns and/or make ammo so utterly expensive you won’t be able to afford to buy any. The plan is to take all guns and outlaw all ammo that isn’t encoded. You will be required to turn in them or face jail and/or that little re-education camp near you and under rex-84 they have a bunch of them around the country….
Thanks! That’s a good V-Day present.
Specter was the Republican safety valve. If Republicans had succeeded in blocking the stimulus, their 40% in the Senate would go down even more. This is something Americans want (not all, but a majority) and are really paying attention to.
It’s ironic that he may lose his primary race to a hard right Republican in the primary, and for having saved the party.
Not a commercial flight for Brown. Military owned business class jet out of Andrews AFB right there where he needed it to be at the direction of the White House.
Brown might have cast the 60th vote, but Snowe, Collins, Specter made the 60th vote possible. Never let them forget it.
Remember…
Rules are for losers.
The Dems just proved that … again.
When will the GOP get past the “all-is-nice-with-sugar-on-top” extra-high road they seem to always take.
This is politics, not your grandma’s birthday party.
What he did, by running away from conservative principles, and partaking in the liberal excesses, was really crappy. No one should believe anything this man says anymore…he’s full of it!
Minnick represents my district. He’s not perfect, but he just picked up my vote in two years (the same one he didn’t get last November).
On February 14th, 2009 at 8:17 pm, Cosmo said:
Careful, Cosmo…that may be EXACTLY why he voted against the bailout.
Minnick is a first-term Congressman who won a seat away from a Republican. Part of Pelosi’s plan is to strengthen and build on the Democratic Socialists majority. If Minnick had voted for the bailout, he would have lost the seat to a republican in 2008. His vote against it was a ruse. Please don’t be fooled.
The 7 House Democrats who voted no…
Got that? Seven. Why weren’t there at least 49 “Blue Dog” Democrats voting against this bailout?
After all…
The past few weeks, and especially yesterday, helped me convince my wife to let me purchase a pistol, which I bought today. Nothing says “I love you” quite like a new 9mm. Never fired one of those before, I am looking forward to it.
The last newsworthy note on their site was from Sept 28, 2008.
I think they were force fed the KoolAid…
