I don’t think the turncoats have anything to do with it anymore, do they? They were needed for cloture and to stop a filibuster. Now only 51 votes are necessary, right? Or can the Reps still filibuster if they don’t have 60?

Joy, under Senate rules, they need 60 (i.e. 3/5ths of all the duly-sworn Senators) to pass it.

I was once proud that I served in the Army for 24 honorable years.
Now, I would be ashamed to wear the uniform, sworn to uphold these violations of our rights taking place in the house/senate and executive offices.

Hey, easy! Recall that the military oath is to uphold/defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic–not the federal government and professional politicians.

And you should still be proud of your 24 years. Depending on those dates, you were part of the Army during some interesting times when military service mattered.

(I just got back from a trip, and have not read the intervening messages. Sorry if I have missed to good comments on this matter. I’ll be getting to them after I hit “Submit Comment”.)

If they are able to find people for the job, it will be only a few, and the ones that do will soon realize that it is a dead end job (pun intended) or they will no longer be a burden on society.

Karl Rove suggested this may be setting a pattern, Obama voting “present” as Chief Executive. Tells Pelosi he wants a spending bill around $700 billion, not to exceed $800 billion, which immediately becomes the target to exceed, and leaves all the details to her.

I’m still enraged at the treason trio. Not a penny for the national party or Senatorial Campaign Committee if Specter will see a penny of it in 2010.

Tonight I weeped for my Republic, my beloved country that died.

We have been disenfranchised by both parties in our government. We have a government that governs without the consent of the people and “We the People” have been disenfranchised. They are not our representatives anymore, but our rulers. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. Our congress is nothing but a new Soviet Politburo that will rubber stamp everything the “Dear Leader” requests.

Hard times are coming. A great struggle is coming. The new American Civil War is coming. Until then, “Who is John Galt?”

P.S. If I was a member of Congress, I would be looking over my shoulder. They may find a few shoes thrown their way. Hopefully they will be steel toe boots.

Senator Arlen Specter is one of only three Republicans to support the economic stimulus bill in Congress, and the latest Rasmussen Reports survey in Pennsylvania shows that his position is costing him support back home.

Just 31% of Keystone State voters say are more likely to vote for Specter because of his position on the stimulus package while 40% are less likely to do so.

A look inside the numbers shows the problem for Specter may be even more significant. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Republican voters in the state are less likely to vote for Specter. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, just 27% are more likely to support the long-time incumbent while 48% are less likely to do so.

McConnell seems like a nice guy, but if he isn’t willing to play the parliamentary tricks like demand a full reading of the bill, that would have delayed it an extra two or three days and given bungwipes like Specter time to absorb that he is losing support in Pennsylvania, not gaining it, well, maybe Dr. Coburn or Senator DeMint or someone with a bit stiffer backbone should lead the caucus.

If anybody is still reading this, and knows anybody in DC….there is a protest scheduled. The protest against “porkulus” is Monday, Feb. 16 at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle, 401 Pine Street, in the open area by the big arch from noon to 3 p.m.

Although the chances are slim that they can pull this off, somebody has to try something. I can’t afford to fly to DC on such short notice, but if anybody lives there, please…….

Tell me why we had to hurry this up? Obama is not signing it until after the holiday?

Because Barry has to perpetuate his pubescent boy crush on Lincoln by signing his historical legislation on Presidents’ Day. What could possible be more important?

they won’t simply ban guns they will take guns and/or make ammo so utterly expensive you won’t be able to afford to buy any. The plan is to take all guns and outlaw all ammo that isn’t encoded. You will be required to turn in them or face jail and/or that little re-education camp near you and under rex-84 they have a bunch of them around the country….

A look inside the numbers shows the problem for Specter may be even more significant. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Republican voters in the state are less likely to vote for Specter. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, just 27% are more likely to support the long-time incumbent while 48% are less likely to do so

    Thanks! That’s a good V-Day present.

Specter was the Republican safety valve. If Republicans had succeeded in blocking the stimulus, their 40% in the Senate would go down even more. This is something Americans want (not all, but a majority) and are really paying attention to.

It’s ironic that he may lose his primary race to a hard right Republican in the primary, and for having saved the party.

As far as I’m concerned, Arlen Specter is Public Enemy Enema #1.

What he did, by running away from conservative principles, and partaking in the liberal excesses, was really crappy. No one should believe anything this man says anymore…he’s full of it!

Careful, Cosmo…that may be EXACTLY why he voted against the bailout.

Minnick is a first-term Congressman who won a seat away from a Republican. Part of Pelosi’s plan is to strengthen and build on the Democratic Socialists majority. If Minnick had voted for the bailout, he would have lost the seat to a republican in 2008. His vote against it was a ruse. Please don’t be fooled.

    After all…

Welcome to the Blue Dog Coalition website!

The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 with the goal of representing the center of the House of Representatives and appealing to the mainstream values of the American public. The Blue Dogs are dedicated to a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the financial stability and national security of the United States. Currently there are 49 members of the Blue Dog Coalition.
