Video: One congressman starts reading porkulus

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 13, 2009 09:58 AM

Not the Cliff Notes version.

Republican Study Committee chair Rep. Tom Price sat down with the 1,073-page porkulus conference report this morning at 9am. Hope he’s a speed reader!

Hmmm… handwritten notes on a legal document, with no annotation of who made the changes?

Uh… Congress? We have the technology for moderated documents, online, which can be modified, and it will show not only changes, but who made them, when they were made, and can have comment fields about that change…

    Transparency???

We need to stage a sit down until the whole darn thing is read in full by everyone, including those who voted for these people. What will it take for Congress to HEAR WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE SAYING?

If only our Congressmen, heck, just one Congressman, would point out the unconstitutionality of this bill, all aspects of this bill that aren’t covered by the enumerated powers, we’d be in a much better position. It’d force the Democrats Marxists to admit that they don’t care what the Constitution states, which should prod the courts into action upon passage of this bill.
We, as Americans, shouldn’t even be talking about the economics aspect of this bill until we know if it’s constitutional or not. If we claim to be a Constitutional Republic, then we need to start with the Constitution, not economics or pragmatism. The Marxists have won the cultural hegemony. They’ve convinced people that the Constitution is a “living, breathing, open” document (much the same as they’ve convinced most Christians the same goes for the Bible). That’s why, even on sites as “conservative” as this one and Hotair, the only political arguments we see are pragmatist arguments vs. arguments based upon our bedrock document: the Constitution.

Well, the first thing he does in the video is call the package the “non-stimulus” bill, so I’m not sure why he’d have to ‘speedread’ it. His mind was already made up.

Dr. Price is a great congressman. I used to live in his district. Solid conservative. At least my congressman now [Bob Inglis] didn’t wimp out as he is prone to do at times.

Stand your ground. This type of bullying tactics that the “progressives” are undertaking can only bring them down once the obvious disaster comes. Too bad the country will have to endure the hard times in the meantime…

President is celebrating his quote “Victory”, so the news reports. Pretty easy to get a victory when all decorum and procedure are ignored and all opposition locked out. It doesn’t take any leadership to lie , all the while, doing just the opposite. What happened to President of all the people.
In my own back yard I look at Governor Kane, Senators Web and Warner, and my non Representative Nye and wonder just what their rewards for going along with a high speed sprint to the extreme left is.
Hope Pelosi takes them on a personal tour of the Folsom Street Fair next year. They can rub elbows with the people they really stood up for.
    Congratulations Liberals all. Sleep well.
