Those with incomes below $40,000 or above $100,000 are more optimistic.

Well yeah, I bet the ones making under $40,000 are optimistic, they're getting all the freebies.

I'm not sure why anyone making over $100,000 would be optimistic about the stimulus. I would guess they feel they make enough to handle the sting or they're just more likely to be optimistic about things in general and that attitude is reflected in their earning power.

Thirty-eight percent (38%) of voters nationwide believe the $787-billion stimulus plan passed by Congress will help the economy. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 29% believe the plan will hurt and 24% believe it will have little impact.

Proving once again that what people believe does not make it true.
Even what a majority believe.
Truth is not determined by belief.

I can almost imagine Marie Antoinette referring to the working-class of her day as the "chattering class".

Well, I say, LET SCHMUCKY EAT PORK RINDS!

Don’t condemn all federal employees because of the duds.

From my experience about 20% of the governments employees are doing about 80% of the work. The civil service laws need to be rewritten to be able to get rid of the dead wood.

It is much easier to transfer the problem employees than fire them. So they are transferred somewhere and do mostly nothing while collecting a paycheck and earning (stealing) a pension.

I don’t think the president is clueless. I think he knows exactly what he is doing. Tutored by communists and making a career of destroying the productive for the benefit of the leeches. No, he knows what he is doing.

This is what happens when we let government grow unchecked. They have to find everything they can to tax just to make up the shortfall.

How long until people have to buy and display a "sidewalk" pass in New York City?

The mere fact that someone polled people to ask them "what do you think is in this stimulus package" is evidence that NO ONE has read it.

I can see the pollster: "So, there's this multibillion-turned-trillion dollar bill in D.C. right now. Pres. Obama will sign it. What do you think is in it?"

A. Primarily new spending
B. New spending + tax cuts
C. Primarily tax cuts
D. Chocolate and caramel with a nougaty center
E. Where's my free gas?

kevin k; when you locate a government worker who actually performs in his job, send that guy to me, and i'll hire him, free him from the beaurocracy and pay him way more than he makes now. but, he will give up his paid holidays, his 20 year and out pension, his 8 to 4 mentality, and his "that isn't my job" attitude, or he won't last a week.

Gov. Paterson (result of another political criminal) is now talking about taxing computer downloads

NY POST: A state proposal to add a 4% tax for downloading movies and music will also apply to Internet porn.

Gov. Paterson recently suggested the so-called iPod tax to help close a $15 billion budget deficit, but few realized the levy would also apply to XXX-rated material.
Conservatives railed against the tax, but for a very different reason.

"By taxing it you're legitimizing it," said New York Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long, adding that government shouldn't profit from porn. "If you're taxing it - how can it be wrong? I don't know how you can sink much deeper."

Conservatives support the right to buy their porn with privacy, and without the taxes they would pay at a brick and mortar store. Who knew?

The 1996 welfare reform removal should be at the top of the list.

Trying to recall just how long Schumer's been Senator for the state of New York..... I think since 1999. Having grown up in this state and remembering when jobs and industry actually CAME to this state and the economy was robust, it's not difficult to compare it to today .... population is actually decreasing, industry and jobs have moved elsewhere, taxes are astronomical, life-long residents are forced to leave their homes and the state because they can no longer pay property taxes.

If Chuck has all the answers for the national economy, why is his own state an economic disaster? Gov. Paterson (result of another political criminal) is now talking about taxing computer downloads, internet purchases, and everything else that he can think of to prevent bankruptcy. I'm waiting for a meter to be put on our home to measure the airflow in and out. Water (I'm thinking Obama and his like might consider that a 'life necessity') is 3 times more expensive than most states and New York has so many lakes you just wonder 'what the hell???'

Taxes, taxes, taxes - - the answer to everything....ask Schumer, he should know.

49% of government employees thing the stimulus will HELP? Of course, they’ve been feeding off the taxpayer for YEARS, and this is just more of the same. Besides, most government employees are Democrats and clueless, otherwise they’d get a real job.

That is not fair. There is a good percentage of federal government employees who work hard in Constitutional areas, and provide real service for their salaries.

Alas, there are also too many who are only there for a permanent paycheck who don't want to do anything for it once they pass their probationary period. It is most likely only these people probably think that increasing the size of federal involvement is a good thing.

Don't condemn all federal employees because of the duds.
