Holder: “A nation of cowards”

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 18, 2009 03:21 PM

AG Eric Holder says we’re a “nation of cowards” on race.

Attorney General Eric Holder described the United States Wednesday as a nation of cowards on matters of race, saying most Americans avoid discussing awkward racial issues.

In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.

“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” said Holder, nation’s first black attorney general.

Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, Holder said, but “we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race.”

Funny. When I think of racial cowards, I think of Barack Obama at Jeremiah Wright’s church, sitting there week after week, year after year, saying nothing about the separatist demagoguery echoing from the pulpit to the pews.

When I think of racial cowards, I think of all the navel-gazers who fret about poisonous racial dialogue, but say nothing about “My President Is Black” bigotry.

When I think of racial cowards, I think of the people cowed by mau-mau-er Al Sharpton — now attacking the NYPost over a cartoon lampooning that crazy dead chimp.

When I think of racial cowards, I think of the folks who enable p.c. thugs to cry racism over “That One” and “Thug Thizzle” and “tricked out.”

Holder doesn’t want an honest dialogue about race. In the Age of Obama, “talking enough with each other about race” means the rest of us shutting up while being subjected to lectures about our insensitivity and insufficient integration on the weekends.

***

Touche, Allahpundit:

…there’s an irony even more sublime here: Obama himself did everything he could to avoid race during the campaign — aside from the occasional insinuation that McCain’s a bigot — until the Wright uproar forced his hand. He could have used his platform to push the issue front and center but he decided he’d rather get elected. Holder owes his job to that, ahem, cowardice.

A cartoonist equates the authors of the stimulus bill to an ape. A professional race mongerer imagines that the cartoonist is referring to the president, and whips up a statement of indignation. President Bush is openly called an ape, and there is only silence.

So there needs to be a discussion of race relations. Why? Sharpton’s doing a good enough job imagining racism where none exists. Carry on, sir. The hypocrisy is evident for any who care to see. There is simply no reason to have this discussion. Why would I hand you a club to beat me with for imagined transgressions?

I won’t go into the family members of other races bit, because I have some, it’s nothing to brag about, and it’s just not that unusual anymore. IMO, the attorney-general is an overly sensitive man with a chip on his shoulder about something. Doesn’t he think he earned his Ivy League education and his law degree? Does he think he got to be attorney general because of the color of his skin? That would be my problem, how?

Yes, life is unfair. I didn’t go to law school, or an Ivy League institution and used the GI Bill to pay for part of my college education. I wouldn’t trade places with Holder on a bet. I was a Marine. I’m a man. I graduated from college. I have a family. Being white is something that happened, it’s not something I did or earned, so it’s not important in my view of myself. I have no idea how Holder views himself.

The socializing I do is either with family or the folks from karate, who are also a racially mixed group, but I don’t view that as exceptional, or anything to talk about. Everybody earned their belts the same way. In fact, it’s sort of funny – people will say something like “Brown belt Chris” when they mean the Chris who happens to be black or “Black belt Chris” when they are talking about the other Chris, who happens to be white.

It’s so funny how Obama and his administration love to “shame” us. Thermostats, corporate jets and now racism. You just have to laugh when you compare their pretentious high mindedness to their actual conduct and record. This administration will continue to be taken less and less seriously as time goes on.

In a conversation about race, what would you talk about? How much you owe a person? How sorry you are? How wronged I am? To heal race relations we have to start at the same place, as equals. We can’t make up for the past, we can’t wallow in sorrow. It means equal opportunity. period.

I ran the 440 in high school. That count?

The more I follow the Obama Administration the more I am convinced that his resentment of “His mother’s race” is THE over arching concern of him, his wife, Eric Holder and such. Reverend JerryBoy Wright’s God Damn America speech is who these people are–even the white guys–aka Helpful Honkies.
Yea, we could have a dialog on race. Say anything but fawn over race hustlers, cop killers and gang bangers and you will be called racist.

You could crawl on your belly and wail like a whipped animal in penitence and it would not matter to these people–they would want more. For one I am not giving the Grievance Industry the pleasure.

Hope I am not giving my people a bye but I do believe the biggest fault for the racial problem in this country is the White Guilt Cult. They keep feeding the predators and causing them to keep coming back for more. I guess they never saw the sign: Don’t Feed the Bears-they might come back eat YOU!

Just being a Credit to My Race Patron Eric, kma.

To me the bigger issue is Holder’s attack on our right to freely associate. Who does he think he is telling me I am some how flawed if I live in a neighborhood I like?

I think he needs to be asked to leave office. He can have any opinion he wants. As the U.S. Attorney General he is responsible for a higher standard regarding his opinions.

His comment disqualifies him to represent all Americans. His comment is racist at heart and targets our right to freely assemble.

    He needs to be gone.

    Nancy Pelosi.

Al Sharpton looking for an opportunity to get face time is no surprise. Why folks don’t just lay out the facts of the thing to make him look stupid is beyond me.

Shooting the author of the stimulus package is shooting Nancy Pelosi or congress in general.

Facts don’t and have not mattered to Sharpton. But they do matter to me.
