More scenes from Mesa: “I need a beachfront condo, Mr. President!”

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 18, 2009 04:20 PM

I love this. At the Mesa AZ protest against President Obama, KFYI listeners brought signs telling Santa Obama what they wanted from the savior-based economy. Hats off to KFYI’s Bruce Jacobs and J.D. Hayworth. Reader Al Swanson sent these priceless pics.

Dude, where’s our bailout?

Amen, brother:

Anyway, I see one person in all those photos who could rightfully be called a “child”; the others all look like adults or, at youngest, teenagers.

So the whole “child exploitation” debate seems a bit moot in this case. It’s one kid holding a sign at a protest. Let’s not go bonkers.

As I personally observed with employees that had access to private insurance to cover their chidren, but stuck them in S-Chip anyway, because it saved them $15/week.

Mookie, the children in these pictures seem to be protesting alongside the adults. They are not being exploited in any way.

The S-CHIP children WERE being exploited since S-CHIP is a children’s program. I’m sure you understand the difference, but I’d be happy to explain it further.

Nor were these children threatening the lives of any elected officials or otherwise being coached to say disturbing things. What’s wrong with asking for a free education?

And, as someone else commented, none of them were being used as a human shield – or blockade. (I know that I’m exaggerating on that one.)

I would think that living in a home for free is MORE of a luxury than paying off a lien (mortgage) on a home in order to have the right to live in it.

Therefore, if you wanted Obama to merely “help” you make those mortgage payments, then I’d call it a wash.

In conclusion, I think the comparison is appropriate.

You’re quite right, blue collectivist, they are NOT the same thing as what we protest, which is this:

Private citizens being forced to pay for other private citizens to live in a home.

    That’s slavery.

Granted, it’s a civilized form of slavery. Not as ugly as that practiced by the cotton plantation owners. And of course, all practiced in the name of “compassion” and “rights.” But you know, a plantation is still a house, and someone has to pay the mortgage on it…

FWIW, the kids in the picture above at least look old enough to form an opinion. I got no issue with them. The kids on the OTHER thread however, were nothing but cute little billboards for their parent’s political agenda.

No, none of them I know live in their cars. They live in THEIR houses THEY bought by WORKING, paying their bills and living by the rules. Most of us would hope our children and grandchildren could also but with this huge Generational Theft Act they probably won’t be able to. They will be saddled with ever mounting debt.

This Tax & Spend act will chase productivity from the whole country the way these Tax & Spend policies have done so much damage to California, Michigan, Illinois, New York and such.

No bluesoc, we are just people worried about out country, families and futures so Kiss My A$$-have a pork rind. But it was fun having a Mock Demonstration.

I’m not saying that you can’t, but can you find a post in which Michelle rails against cute little billboards? Remember, this doesn’t include threats against elected officials and exploitation.

MM keeps calling this the Generational Theft Act and talking about how it will bankrupt our children. So isn’t this as much about the children as S-CHIP was?

Please. I completely expected this reply from Mookie or lgm, but NOT YOU, chapoutier! Your smart enough to know the answer to this. (On second thought, I wouldn’t expect lgm to ask the logical question.)

The name Generational Theft Act implies that later generations will need to pay the price for this temporary stimulation AS ADULTS. She has never claimed that children will be harmed. She’s not calling it the THEFT FROM CHILDREN ACT.

I will retract this statement if you can show one post in which MM suggests that children will now be forced to get a harmful job AS CHILDREN to pay for this.

Well, there was the so called “Obama’s Children’s Chorus” just off the top of my head (which yes, was creepy).

I legitimately did not get what you were going for. And okay…I get it now, but i really don’t see much of a distinction, perhaps a matter of degrees but certainly not A-OK vs. horrible exploitation. One is saying “See this cute little face! You want this cute little face to die for lack of health care!!!” The other is saying “You see this cute little face! You want this cute little face to grow up in a socialist/fascist/whatever regime and steal all her freedoms!”

If the only difference between the two is exactly WHEN the poor little child you are trotting will suffer the horrible consequences…I am sorry, I don’t see that as being a very compelling distinction.

Somebody on this thread suggested that it was okay to fund the housing bailout because a place to sleep is not a luxury.

Even going on the assumption that government is the appropriate entity to ensure everyone meets basic needs, these people being bailed out were not presented with the option of owning a house or sleeping in the street. Plenty of people rent apartments and houses because that is what they can afford. Many rent with roommates to defray costs. Other people buy smaller, less expensive houses. Living within your means whenever possible is the responsible thing to do, but it’s these people in apartments and rentals and lesser houses that are paying for these other people to live in houses they should not have bought in the first place. That’s wrong.

There is a difference between “If you say my point is wrong, you ARE ATTACKING THIS CHILD!” and taking a kid to a probably safe and potentially educational political protest instead of hiring a baby-sitter.

I agree and have no issue with exposing children to political activity. But making signs for kids to hold, ascribing to them beliefs they could not possibly have formed, and marching them in front of crowds and cameras is exploiting them for your political purposes. Is it child abuse? No. But it is a bit unseemly.

Well, we’re certainly closer on this than we usually are.

One is saying “See this cute little face! You want this cute little face to die for lack of health care!!!” The other is saying “You see this cute little face! You want this cute little face to grow up in a socialist/fascist/whatever regime and steal all her freedoms!”

I disagree. Nobody is saying “You see this cute little face! You want this cute little face to grow up in a socialist/fascist/whatever regime and steal all her freedoms!”

As I stated, they were protesting alongside the adults.

They weren’t being put front and center the way the S-CHIP children were.

It’s the difference between the human relief organization which only highlights hungry children on their infomercials and the one which shows hungry people. One is most definitely exploiting the children (I’m not saying it’s bad – I’m simply defining exploitation) and the other is most definitely NOT exploiting the children (they are merely lumped in with the adults).

No offense, but these signs are kind of one-note. It’s like a contest to see how far you can stretch a single joke and still remain on topic. Bonus points to the first guy for the French flag, which adds dimension and flair to an otherwise stale joke.

You need something short and catchy. Most of these are waaay too long. And remember — a little risk goes a long way. Be edgy, but not over the edge, you know? The Nazi comparison thing is clearly a non-starter, but how about “Obama Lied – Capitalism Died”? Or “Change We Can’t Believe In”? I think “Mr. President, Stimulate THIS!” really captures the outrage without any overt implications of violence, although it might be a little too suggestive for a G-rated event. Or how about something involving your favorite pork recipe?

Be creative! And remember — your only limitiation is your own imagination.
