The Murtha quagmire: Who greased earmark wheels for the Pork King?

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 18, 2009 09:50 PM

Taegan Goddard e-mailed a late-breaking bulletin tonight of a Capitol Hill pork scandal in the works:

Earmark Scandal Breaking

There’s a potentially big story breaking on Capitol Hill… Apparently 104 members of Congress of both parties — 42 Republicans and 62 Democrats — secured earmarks for a lobbying firm linked to Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) — in a single bill alone. The earmarks were inserted in a bill Murtha controlled as the defense appropriations subcommittee chairman.

The firm’s executives and clients are among Murtha’s biggest sources of campaign contributions.

Check back later for more details.

I’d like to see that list of 42 Republicans. Which lobbying firm? Which bill? The GOP members will have some explaining to do.

***

Dan Riehl has some details on the lobbying firm, PMA.

I’d say throw the bums out and hold new elections, but the electorate is so unworthy and the voting system so corrupted, we’d be right back to where we started, only with a different criminal in office. Gawd, it’s hopeless out there.

They are allowed for the same reason we will never see Congressional term limits…It would take an act of Congress to stop it.

As if we didn’t know…it will take forever for the names to be fully released. All republicans will be soundly denounced by both sides and forced to either resign or make an appropriate act of contrition. All democrats will start by denying involvement….then hold hearings on “ethics’, undoubtedly led by the likes of pelosi, rangel and frank…and end up being whitewashed and forgotten by a hope’n'change kind of media. Isn’t that nice…republicans will be held accountable and democrats will get another line for their resume (hell, looks like we now have 62 more qualified people for cabinet position in the obummer administration!) If I have to wait two years for willfully mislead dem voters to take any action whatsoever (probably not gonna happen) against “the most ethical congress,” so be it, but we’ll start cleaning house on our side right away. Frankly, I’ll be amazed if any of the msm identify even one democrat, but we the people are entitled to know the names and hold every pandering sell-out congressman accountable in full!

Murtha is a disgrace to the Congress. Murtha is the reason term limits should become a national reality.
Murtha should be sent to Guantanamo for treason.

Murtha has a “practical” philosophy. If you can get away with it, why not? Sooner or later, such “practicality” may backfire on him, but he hopes…later rather than sooner. By then, he won’t care. You can get an idea of such philosophy, to a lesser degree, when you see people fly down the 55 mph highway, at 70-75. The man needs to be censored and retired, but the voters don’t care.

From the very moment I read that passage in this book, I knew that might be the only way. It is saddening to think about it, but what choice will they leave us? Term limits will never happen with this bunch. Voting them out? Fat chance with the gerrymandering that’s gone on and not to mention the dumbing down of the voters. Then there is the abject apathy that infects this nation.

No, Murtha and the rest of these weassels will have to be carried out on their desks without ANY honor for serving our great country and it’s people.

The worst aspect of all of this:

We taxpayers end up paying for the bribes of our Congressional Representatives and Senators. The earmarks go through and the return on investment is made via campaign donations (or more devious paybacks).

Just another cost of doing business with D.C.
