We were, for a short while The Lords of Cobol. I remember running the cards through the sorter and card reader, then going back to the keypunch to “debug the program” (fix typos). Our programs and data were stored on 1.5 inch reel-to-reel tapes. When the Sys 3 came out, we were in hog heaven! The printer was an impact printer that set and struck one line at a time.

    That was only…! Geez! I got old!

    You got me beat with the Dec 8! (though I used a CDC Cyber somethinorother? via batch cards at NU in 1970) But the PDP-10 I was programming in 1974 was from an acoustic coupled data terminal in my apartment, (can’t recall the name but it was blue thermal paper). I may have been telecommuting before there was a name for it?

    We kept the paper recyclers in business, sonnyboy! We had to wait for ol’ Tommy Edison to come up with a light bulb, so we used carbide lamps at first.
