Rebel Yell: Taxpayers Revolt Against Gimme-Mania

My syndicated column reports on the growing, grass-roots movement against porkulus/spending binges/the entitlement culture from Seattle to Denver to Mesa, Arizona and beyond. Why aren’t you hearing about it in the MSM? Because it doesn’t fit the victim mentality/government savior narrative. We don’t exist, remember?
Well, more of you non-existent rebels will be gathering in Overland Park, Kansas tomorrow, Saturday, at Rep. Dennis Moore’s office (D-KS) at 10 am. You heard it here first. And it’s on. Reader Amanda Grosserode (now a commenter here – her handle is Huskergirl) got the ball rolling. Talk show host Darla Jaye is on board (more details here) and I hear Kansas Americans for Prosperity is getting involved.
Louder, please!

Rebel yell: Taxpayers revolt against gimme-mania

There’s something in the air. It’s the smell of roasted pork. President Obama heralded the signing of the trillion-dollar “stimulus” bill in Denver and promoted his massive mortgage entitlement expansion in Mesa, Arizona at tightly-controlled campaign events. But outside the Secret Service perimeters, a raucous grass-roots rebellion against Beltway spending binges has caught fire. The new Boston Tea Party is here, baby, and it’s doused in barbecue sauce.
The first revolt took place on President’s Day in Smurf-blue Seattle, where mom-blogger Keli Carender hastily organized a downtown demonstration to oppose what they called the “stimulus rip-off.” A motley band of nearly 100 protesters — moms and their kids, college students, libertarians, taxpayer groups, GOP activists — raised their voices and dined on pulled pork (donated by yours truly). They assailed both the substance of the overstuffed stimulus package and the short-circuited, non-transparent process by which it was passed.
Some wore pig noses. Others waved Old Glory and “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. Their handmade signs read: “Say No to Generational Theft;” “Obama’$ Porkulu$ Wear$ Lip$tick;” and “I don’t want to pay for the SwindleUs! I’m only 10 years old!” The event was peaceful, save for an unhinged city-dweller who showed his tolerance by barging onto the speakers’ stage and giving a Nazi salute.
Carender, a newcomer to political activism, shared advice for other first-timers: “Basically everyone, you just have to do it. Call up your police station or parks department and ask how you can obtain a permit, and then just start advertising. The word will spread. I am only one person, but with a little hard work this protest has become the efforts of a lot of people.”
Why bother? It’s for posterity’s sake. For the historical record. And, hopefully, it will spur others to move from the phones and computers to the streets. For Carender, it’s just the beginning. She gathered all the attendees’ e-mail addresses and will keep up the pressure.
“We need to show that we exist. Second, we need to show support for the Republicans and Democrats that voted against the porkulus. If they think, for one second, that they made a bad choice, we have no chance to fight. Third, it sends a message to Obama and Pelosi that we are awake and we know what’s happening, and we are not going to take it lying down. It is a message saying ‘Expect more opposition because we’re out here.’”
The anti-pork activists turned out in Denver, too. On Tuesday, while President Obama cocooned himself at the city’s Museum of Nature and Science for the stimulus signing, a crowd of nearly 300 gathered on the steps of the Capitol on their lunch hour to flame-broil the spending bill and feast on roasted pig (also donated by yours truly). Jim Pfaff of Colorado’s fiscal conservative citizens’ group Americans for Prosperity condemned the “Ponzi scheme, Madoff style” stimulus and led the crowd in chants of “No more pork!” Free-market think tank head Jon Caldara of the Independence Institute brought oversized checks representing the $30,000 stimulus debt load for American families.
On Wednesday in Mesa, Arizona, local conservative talk station KFYI spearheaded a third large protest to welcome President Obama as he unveiled a $100-$200 billion program to bailout out banks and beleaguered borrowers having trouble paying their mortgages. The entitlement theme played well last week in Florida, where Obama played Santa Claus to enraptured supporters shamelessly seeking government presents. But nearly 500 protesters in Mesa came to reject the savior-based economy with signs mocking gimme-mania.
Their posters jeered: “Give me Pelosi’s Plane;” “Annual Passes to Disneyland;” “Fund Bikini Wax Now;” “Stimulate the Economy: Give me a tummy tuck;” “Free Beer for My Horses.”
And my favorite: “Give me liberty or at least a big screen TV.”
Plans are underway for anti-stimulus-palooza protests in Overland Park, Kansas, Nashville, and New York — home of smug Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer. Schumer’s derisive comment on the Senate floor about the “chattering classes” who oppose reckless spending has not been forgotten or forgiven. The insult spurred central Kentucky talk show host Leland Conway to organize a pork rind drive. Angry taxpayers bombarded the senator’s office with 1,500 bags of cracklins.
Disgraced Democrat Sen. John Edwards was right about one thing: There are two Americas. One America is full of moochers, big and small, corporate and individual, trampling over themselves with their hands out demanding endless bailouts. The other America is full of disgusted, hard-working citizens getting sick of getting played for chumps and punished for practicing personal responsibility.
Now is the time for all good taxpayers to turn the tables on free-lunching countrymen and their enablers in Washington. Community organizing helped propel Barack Obama to the White House. It can work for fiscal conservatism, too.

I’m hoping a rally comes to Boston. I’ll be there with my kids.
I just missed the Seattle protest as I had to fly to Houston Monday morning to process for my newest job in Iraq (I leave this weekend). My good friend Steve Beren was one of the speakers at the Seattle event and my wife took her sister, who is a California liberal, with her. After the event her sister said her eyes have been opened to a bigger reality than what she had been taught in California schools.
You throw out the term “rebel yell” and don’t even link to the second greatest Billy Idol song of the same name?
Sigh….I guess I’ll have to do it for you.
We gonna get one in Dallas/Ft. Worth?
Errah, this congress and administration must have watched to many In Livin Color episodes back in the day; “mo money, mo money, mo money”. if the government is going to tax every mile you drive, will they at least give us an exemption/coupon for the trip to the cemetary in the hearse?
We can go national with this on April 15th.
So, what was your greatest one, Chap? White Wedding?
I always like Rebel Yell better…especially with the Southern connotation.
Wouldn’t THAT be something?
Errah I guess that thought ties in with Billy Idol’s White Wedding lyrics, mo mo mo, mo mo more . . . . I can see Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi singing that at cocktail hour.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx6IBa2ecMw&eurl=http://curmudgeonlyskeptical.blogspot.com/&feature=player_embedded
It has come to this and it does not please me. However if violence is offered,
I can do that and more. God Bless America.
The one I fought for, not the one that Obama stole!
Are the “chattering classes” getting uppity? My my.
Ok Kansas, do us proud. Pass the Bikini Wax
Nooooooo. Dancing With Myself, if for no other reason than the “SWEAT! SWEAT! SWEAT!”
Now that would be the ultimate new version of the Boston Tea Party. Refuse to pay taxes when the money will go to fix others’ messes.
Billy was so cool. Still is.
I guess in this midnight hour, the voters are crying “no … no … no” instead of “mo … mo … mo”.
Now that is catchy….no no no no more…Thanks Chap for getting it started. I think that the movement may have found a theme song…lol
Weather is going to be cold and windy in Kansas on Saturday. Dress warm and bring on the signs!
The only thing our kids in California are learning in school is whether they want whole milk or skim milk in their double latte’s.
The only problem with this is the fact that conservatives actually have jobs that require them to work and pay for the free loaders that Barak’s policies have encouraged. So it may be hard to get off work to march down Wilshire (LA)…unlike the illegals that made as all “live without a illegal” a few May’s ago.
Tone deaf, but not mute.
Huskergirl, eh?
GO MIZZOU!!!
“No … no … no …”
Enough. I’ve had it. I am so angry. I have spent my whole life working very hard and living modestly, well within my means. Guess why I don’t have a mortgage I can’t pay – it’s because I don’t even own a house. I rent.
So now let me get this straight: Because I’ve been fiscally responsible, saving my money in hopes that housing prices might someday drop enough that I could buy a home, I now must pay extra in order to keep housing prices so artificially high that I will never be able to afford my own place.
And my money will go directly to someone who irresponsibly got themselves into too much debt so they can continue to live far more luxuriously than I ever will.
No. No. NO!! Not without one hell of a fight.
Actually, “No More No More” is a good Aerosmith song from “Toys in the Attic,” one of their first three albums back in the early 70s,…before they became what they became.
Don’t you understand?
You and I, and most of us here, are supposed to be the willing host, for the socialist/statist/fascist parasites and their minions to feed off.
I wish I could say that that was a tongue-in-cheek comment; but, sadly, it is the truth.
I know, Obama seems to never get it.
I am 52. I have bought 3 houses in my lifetime. I lost my first house after a divorce. I could use that as an excuse but it would be a lie. I lost it because I didn’t get a roommate and I partied instead of being responsible. I asked for help from my parents but they wouldn’t give in to me….They of course loved me but knew better. I deserved to loose that first house. I now have a home that is way in the black and 9 yrs left on the mortgage. I needed to grow up after the first one and so does Obama.
Last night a politician
Came dancin to my door
Last night abomination
Came crawling on the floor
He said come on baby
Ive got a license to steal
We said it expired
This is how we feel
Because
In the midnight hour
We cried no, no, more
With a rebel yell
We cried no, no, more
Owww
No redistribution, babe
No, no, more
With a rebel yell
No, no, more
No, no, more
We dont like slavery
We wont sit and beg
We work for our living
Your hand’s out instead
We wanna be free
Can’t crush me, babe
We wanna be free
So don’t tread on me
Because
In the midnight hour
We cried no, no, more
With a rebel yell
We cried no, no, more
Owww
No redistribution, babe
No, no, more
With a rebel yell
No more…
NO, NO, NO, NO MORE!
The liberal Marie-Antoinettes in Congress have modernized the famous quote, attributed to the French Queen of old, “Let them eat cake” to Schumer’s “Let them eat pork” (or some similar condescending remark of his).
Now that these left-leaning, socialists have “won”, their remarks to the conservative masses are becoming more and more insulting. The bright side is we are becoming more and more energized to revolt against their attempts to ruin this country.
Hope and Change – I hope President Obama is out of office quickly and we change the makeup of Congress in each upcoming election.
Errah, Pianoman, LOL . . . . Good work! Can we get Idol to record? If he’s an american citizen he’s getting porked like the rest of us and may just do it.
Pianoman,
Pretty good, but it loses a little something without the leather vest and sneer.
I see the Dow is down another 100 points. Everybody enjoying their Hope and Change?
A year ago I would have thought this comment was over-the-top and unnecessarily alarmist. Today I have to agree that it’s probably just the plain truth.
I may be forced to be the host but I will never be the willing host. If there’s a way to resist I plan on finding it and I suspect that I will not be alone.
Errah, Does anyone know a good guilotinne sharpener?
Thanks. It’s probably a good thing I don’t have a web cam at work.
yesterday’s santelli call to arms on cnbc must have gotten him a severe reprimand from the obama press channel nbc, as today he was meek as a new lamb and said about 2 words. yo rick, fox has a business channel and you can actually express your opinions there. ask glenn beck. the poll on drudge regarding this topic says 93% of the people who can read agree with mr santelli. the other 7% still want the gubmint cheese.
I’d decided several months ago that I wanted to buy some firearms.
However, having a very time-consuming job (doc), and having a parent in failing health for several months who passed away several weeeks ago; and foolishly living in a socialist state, I have not been able to purchase any firearms.
Thank you, statists/socialists/fascists.
I agree fully with you, Tennyson; I will also try to find a way to resist.
teddy kennedy: who needs a sharp guillotine? The dull ones work just fine.
Errah, it will go quicker that way and save time on those pesky double cuts!
And so it begins….
I am in the middle of refinancing my home (so I can pay my mortgage if I get laid off), my mortgage broker informed me that rate are climbing fast because I am a good risk. You see the banks are being told they must lower rates for bad loans so they need make up loses by charging more per average loan. Credit cards are also charging more to good risk people because they know they will pay. I need training to learn how to be an entitled deadbeat in Obama’s new world order.
Fixed it for ya.
Looks like cost shifting, which docs and hospitals have had to do for a couple of decades since Medicare (until very recently) and Medicaid reimbursed poorly for services (they would just “disallow” what they wished to, and then pay 80% of what was left); with the result that fee and charge increases were passed on to those folks with commercial insurance, and self-payers.
Well it is clear what you have to do to refinace into a good rate. Stop paying your mortgage.
Don’t be a sucker, let uncle sugar pay your way
The protest in Kansas was mentioned this morning on a popular local radio station (KCMO 710). The host, Chris Stigall, said he was getting “bombarded” by requests from people on both sides of the river to promote the event.
What really scares me about this bunch is that they’ve caused this much damage and only been in office for a month.
Hard times ahead.
You beat me to it.
Yep, only a month.
These fascists/socialists/statists/collectivists/thugs showed their true colors at warp speed (if that works as a metaphor).
I saw Glen Beck on fox this morning and that guy has been right all along. If he contunes to be right, we will be fighting in less that 5 years.
On February 20th, 2009 at 11:34 am,
Not surprising.
I’ve been expecting it for the past few years.
Michelle … just as a follow-up FYI regarding the demonstrations in Mesa yesterday …
They are now revealing on KFYI-AM that the 500 number given was only counting the people near the KFYI broadcasters booth on one side of the school … the total number is now estimated by the local Mesa Police Department to have been between 2000 and 2500 attendees … there were people on all sides of the school and along the 1-mile route the BO motorcade used to get to the school … they had shut down all vehicle traffic within a mile of the high school so all those folks that attended had to walk the get there with their signs … many decided to just line the route with their signs instead of make the trek to the school …
Market down 140 points. 20 million unemployed in china. Washington spending like drunk sailors. The only good thing for me coming out of this is I will be employed because the reserve and guard will have to be used to quell the growing violence. Inflation is already increasing and that is only just beginning. Divest from the dollar. Store food, buy a gun. Learn to grow your own food. This is going to get ugly and soon. Bonus, you will son be losing weight.
I want to know about the protest in Nashville. I live in Memphis, but I’ll willingly drive to Nashville to show my displeasure with this administration’s choices.
Please obama, come to salt lake!!!
I have a protest sign ready just for you!!!
Well, that image idea is just too good to pass up.
And please allow me to be the first to say “nice bosom, Chuck.”
(Ahem. Apologies in advance…
)
To carry DESERTLOVER’S comment, On BRUCE JACOBS’ show this AM, on KFYI… He said that OL” TIM THE TAX CHEAT drove right by the MOB on his way in… Obviously he called THE ONE and informed him of the large crowd of NON-BELIEVERS present on his route… B. HUSSEIN then arrived from a different direction at the school… This route was absent ANY crowd… Must have really put a DOWNER on the day for THE TRUE BELIEVERS who were present… My best feeling from the MESA gathering, was the number of YOUNG PEOPLE questioning THE PORKULUS… There were poeple from high school age to folks that were 30ish… Gave my heart a little “TINGLE”, if you know what I mean…

That’s a great picture. Catches the essence of the times. Maybe we should flood Schumer’s office with that picture.
Correction for you Michelle: Chuck Schumer, the permanent junior senator from New York, represents Manhattan and Long Island. The rest of the state can roast in hell as far as he’s concerned.
You expected better?
To stop the Washington enablers, I’m liking the idea of the States’Rights movement getting started.
Previously, on another thread, I posted New Hamshire’s resolution.
It seems Texas is getting into the act and I’ve heard as many as 22 states have started something
Here is Texas’ act.

There is a common thread running through the Democrat led Government, they can’t hold still, and they have to jet off on our dime everywhere why is that? Carbon Foot Print, the worst economy since the Great Depression? Hello anyone home in Washington, oh that’s right, they all have other places they have to be

This is my, I Write Sins, Not Tragedies TGIF Post. Hope Everyone has a Great Weekend. We all know these law makers are getting frequently flier miles on our dime too right?
NULLIFICATION!!!
Outstanding photoshop!
Deserves the rimshot of rimshots!!
Ought to be broadcast across the country.
Mr wighttrasch ranted about this all the way to work this morning in the car…
I took his blood pressure, and it was fine. He said ‘it’s good to vent.’
And to think, none of this would be happening if Sen. Mark Hatfield (RINO-OR) had voted in favor of the Balanced-Budget Constitutional Amendment. He, Specter, and the two Maine Sens belong in the Congressional Hall of Shame.
I’ve heard people are thinking of filing for extensions just so they pay their taxes later. I owe on federal, so I’m thinking of doing just that! It’s legal, civil disobedience.
If there’s a rally in LA, I’m there. Heck, I’ll burn a vacation day for it.
Want to see how your stimulus dollars are being spent. Here’s a nice place, Stimulus Watch, that has updates every 10 minutes.
Their is still hope.
It is time for people to get involved and be a force to be reckoned with.
The Tea Party idea is growing longer legs! See what other conservatives are saying easily with this new conservative search tool on surgeusa.org
Michelle I hope you have seen this new site(launched on inauguration day) and also realize its value to the conservative cause!
Of course Obama has to push all this through as quickly as he can before the sleeping ginat truly awakens.
Thanks for the link iamsaved. I took a quick look and I would have to say this is one of the worst ones on the front page:
Spending $27,255,000 for a Refugee Welcome Housing – creation of 175 housing units for refugee population in Salt Lake City
Thank you iam, that is one heck of a site. I will have to think on this for a while. I know I can not read that stuff if I am sober without hurling and if I am not sober, I know I will destroy lots of my equipment by throwing things at it. You have presented me with a conundrum.
I like this porkulus, babyback rib from Dayton Ohio to the tune of $1,500,000.00.
While not large in the grand scheme of things, it brings meaning to the old adage “A million here and a million there, pretty soon we’re talking some real money”
Erradicating prostitution is like trying to eliminate the cockroach population.
The sad thing is that Billion is used in that saying that, although attributed to Senator Everett Dirksen-R of Illinois, if you can believe it, back in the 60s, may not have been actually coined by him.
All of the money voted to be wasted are payoffs for the socialist left thugocracy (in the name of stimulus) and will do zero to help the economy.
The money does nothing to address the structural imbalance created by borrowing on the basis of worthless paper.
Many of the institutions propped up are just dead men walking.
The economy is simply frozen in this bad state by the actions so far. That is why wall street is holding back. They can’t put money into something they know is going down eventually. The weak need to be allowed to fail to truly stabilize the situation.
Therefore what we have seen so far is just the beginning.
If we don’t put our foot down now and draw a line in the sand than trillions more will be wasted.
Thanks for that. Very interesting.
Any news about a gathering in TX?
Specifically ~ Houston
rightwingmom get em going in Houston!
Here is the conservative radio station web site, tell them Houston needs a protest too!
First Im thinking that this is too little too late. But then, looking at it a different way, it’s never too early to start the 2010 campaign. Hopefully the mid term election will be a blood bath for democrats when the public that has been duped with this pork-orgy, realizes they were porked, and throws them out of office en masse. At least I can hope.
I am going on Darla Jaye (local talk show personality) tonight at 8:05. You can listen to the show on the station’s website, TUNE IN!
The time above for the radio broadcast is central time!
For those interested in getting a protest in your state, you just need to bite the bullet! That is what I did, and it sounds like we will have quite a nice outcome. I would be willing to help with ideas and things that I did!

That’s what I’m hoping, as well. They (the Dems) still have a little time left to keep shooting themselves in the foot. I think if this mess hadn’t started so close to time for the Presidential Election, we may have had a different result then.
