Tea Party USA Watch: Taxpayers coming together

Tons of groups and individuals are stepping up to the plate in the wake of last week’s anti-stimulus/anti-entitlement protests and the call for a nationwide Tea Party.

PJTV’s clearinghouse for protests is here.

The New American Tea Party page from “a coalition of citizens and organizations concerned about the recent trend of fiscal recklessness in government…dedicated to the Washington, D.C. effort specifically sponsored by the American Spectator, the Heartland Institute, Americans for Tax Reform, the National Taxpayers Union, Americans for Prosperity, and the Young Conservatives Coalition” is here.

The #TCOT folks have a site here and #dontgo has a list of links to official Facebook Event (and some non-Facebook) pages for each confirmed Chicago Tea Party.

Glenn Reynolds has good round-ups of the Overland Park, KS protest over the weekend organized by mm.com commenter Huskergirl Amanda Grosserode (congrats on a fabulous turnout!) and here’s some advice from a media producer. Yes, it’s good to be prepared — but I would caution against taking too much advice from the “professionals.” It’s the grass-roots nature of these events that make them so compelling. Too much “professional” advice will turn them into…mealy-mouthed GOP Beltway press conferences.

From reader George S., this is my favorite Overland Park KS protest pic:

And my second fave:

Good blog report from Kansas Meadowlark here.

And more after-action reports and pics from talk show host Darla Jaye.

A nice pic of Amanda:

There will be another protest in Kansas City, Mo. next Saturday 2/28 with a march to Sen. Claire McCaskill’s office.

If you can’t find an event listed at one of the many sites above, start your own.

One person can make a difference.

Get your “Tea Party” swag. Business is booming. At least Obama stimulated something

Leslie from Team Sarah asked me to post this for Louisiana folks:

“Tea Party” and “Anti-Pork” Protest Rally in Lafayette, Louisiana
Time: March 7, 2009 from 1pm to 3pm
Location: Veterans Park, 200 Feu Follett Road, Lafayette
Organized By: Leslie A.

Event Description:
Team Sarah Louisiana and Louisiana Resistance to Host “Tea Party” and “Anti-Pork” Rally in Lafayette

Lafayette, LA, February 24, 2009—Team Sarah Louisiana and its affiliate group, Louisiana Resistance, will host a “Tea Party“ and “Anti-Pork” protest rally on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 1:00 pm in Veterans Park, 200 Feu Follett Road, in Lafayette.

The rally is for the purpose of protesting the massive, 787 billion dollar “porkulus” legislation just passed that will bankrupt the country and incur massive new debt for generations of Americans.

Attendees are encouraged to create signs and personal symbols expressing their outrage at this unprecedented waste of taxpayer dollars and violation of the public trust.

Team Sarah (www.teamsarah.org) is a diverse coalition of Americans dedicated to advancing the values Sarah Palin represents in the political process. Team Sarah has gained over 65,000 members nationwide since its inception in the fall of 2008. Louisiana Resistance (www.resist.net) is the Louisiana arm of the Patriotic Resistance, another idea-based network for battling the Obama agenda. I kept asking myself why all the haste to get a stimulus package. Today, the British PM solved the problem when he stated, the world needs a stimulus package.
Answer: The politicians are running scared. They have sunk the economy into a pit and do not have any idea how to bail it out. They in a effort to save their own selves, feel they must do something. So we, the taxed, get a worthless stimulus package from a bunch of washed out has beens.

Another thought on taking a pet with you to one of these rallys, I will bet that not only is the site of the rally not a disaster area after the rally with trash scattered everywhere for someone else to clean up, but any “leavings” by the pets is also cleaned up.

Another striking difference between a conservative and lib rally.

If I heard right, she needs to think about an entire nation that’s going to need a walloping incentive – or better yet, how about we simply cannot afford any more incentives or bailouts. Period. Stop trying to tax and take everything that those of us that work/have worked/ or will work from us. We’d be out of this mess in less than a year if we could count on our wallets being left unpicked. I received this email today and I think it has some really good advise.

A message to all members of OPERATION TEA PARTY 2009

Excerpt from my contact Christie at Resist who offered great feedback on preparing for Tea Parties:

“This issue is something everyone should get informed on before we have any Tea Parties. There will be huge opposition once people find out that we are conservatives and anti-Obama’–even though it’s the whole corrupt system (including foreign money) that put him there.

The signs at the TPs should NOT be about Obama, they should concentrate on NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, WHERE’S THE STIMULUS?, CONGRESS WORKS FOR US, ETC., and this will sway people in the margins who may have voted for the Demos but see that throwing money we don’t have on the problem will only make it worse.

We have to be as NON-PARTISAN as possible because if we’re gonna win this thing it’s gonna be by uniting Americans not keeping them divided–which the gov’t media complex has a vested interest in.
Which comes back to comments about how we will depend on the Media to get the word out but they may also help to clue-in the opposition. If they the media and newspapers are notified the day of the events, then the ugliness could be minimized.”-Christie @ Resist

I will be posting some examples of signs that would be effective and on message at Operation Tea Party in event tools. We also have links and Tea Party calendar on main page to find your local events or post one you have firm info on. Thanks!
